42 - End of season review

2021-06-0301:39:31

Welcome to the final episode in this season of Blast from the Arsenal. As the title would suggest, we review the 2020/21 Premier League season as well as putting forward our nominations for some BFTA Awards. We then step into the role of Arteta and Edu and give our verdict on who should stay and who should be sold during the summer transfer window. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support this season and we hope you join us again for the 2021/22 season.
What is usually a sad day in the footballing calendar has gratefully been and gone. The last game of the season. It's been turbulent, shambolic and disappointing at times but there's hope in the results as Arsenal have taken the fourth highest points tally since Christmas, have the third best defensive record and finished only six points off the Champions League positions - a remarkable feat given the ill fated start to the season which at times looked more like a relegation battle was on the cards than a European push. With that all being said, in this episode we talk through the last day victory over Brighton whilst thankfully avoiding a place in the Europa Conference (thanks Spurs!) as well all the usual news roundup including loan watch, transfer rumours and Hector Bellerin reviving Tuesday night club.
Thanks for joining us on this episode of Blast from the Arsenal, your weekly podcast for all things Arsenal! In this weeks show, we discuss David Luiz leaving and the impact he's had at the club, both on and off the field, since joining from Chelsea for £8m. There's the launch of our 2021/22 away kit - a nod to 1971 double winning kit - and of course, Dennis Bergkamp being inducted into the Premier League 'Hall of Fame'. We review the 1-0 win over Chelsea as well as the 3-1 win again Crystal Palace in which Pepe shows his class with two great goals. Has he finally grasped what is required to make it in Europe's most mentally and physically demanding league?  Finally, we preview Arsenal v Brighton in our final game of the season. Do we want a win given it might send us into the UEFA Europa Conference (that's one competition lower down that the Europa League!)? Tune in to get our thoughts. As ever, all this and more including Tweet of the Week and your questions.
In this episode, the guys look back at a horrid exit in the Europa League at the hands of Unai Emery's Villareal before reviewing the dead rubber victory that was Arsenal v WBA in which Willian scored his first goal (finally!) and more good work from Hale End's finest. There's a look ahead to Chelsea v Arsenal on Wednesday evening too. Of course, no episode of Blast from the Arsenal is complete without 'Tweet of the Week' and 'Which Number 9?'
In this episode of Blast from the Arsenal, Angelo and Diddly choose another Tweet of the week and give their take on the weekend's social media boycott before looking back at the weekend win v Newcastle. Finally, the guys answer some tricky listener questions.
