On this episode: Zac Taylor publicly backed Jake Browning this week, while the same confidence doesn't seem to be there for a former high pick at cornerback. Cincinnati remains relatively healthy, while the Lions are more banged up going into Week 5. Is this going to be a breakout game for Andrei Iosivas? Plainly put, Cincinnati needs to find a way to be explosive on offense this week. Believe it or not, the Bengals are 10.5-point underdogs at home, per FanDuel. And more! On this episode: Cincinnati embarrassed themselves, this time on primetime TV, though the problems differed from last week. The offensive line is a mess. Should the Bengals consider a veteran quarterback addition? We can blame the roster, the coaches and others, but there remains an organizational problem. And more! Uff da. The Bengals went up to Minnesota, in a battle of backup quarterbacks, trying to get a win and build confidence for the Jake Browning run. Could things have gone better? You betcha. The Minnesota Meltdown, as Willie has coined it, could not have been much uglier. Carson Wentz, of North Dakota State fame, looked like villain from the Fargo franchise (most of which actually takes place in Minnesota), but it was the Vikings defense that put the Bengals in the woodchipper. The Bengals fumbled five times, losing three of them. Browning also threw two interceptions. All of these turnovers led to points for Norway's finest, two of them immediately. In all, the Bengals gave up 31 points as a result of turnovers. They were also in field goal range on two of those occasions, meaning that they gave up at least six more points that they could have scored. All and all that is a 37 point swing from turnovers in a game they lost by 38 points. These numbers are insane. That was the biggest problem, but not the only problem. The run game was, uh, did not exist. The defense gave up touchdowns on four of five Red Zone appearances, which is less than ideal. There were some good performances on that side of the ball, but when they needed to make a play the fumbled away their chance like... well like the Bengals offense. The way the Bengals lost this game is unsustainable. The run game is troubling, for sure, but there is no way they continue to turn the ball over at that rate. They had some good luck in the first two weeks with turnovers, but this far surpassed regression to the mean. In fact, it gave them a soybean field's worth of room to progress back to it. Matt and Willie are here to tell you that this team has some problems, but they are fixable and the Denver Broncos are not unbeatable. So let's all hope the Bengals cleansed themselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka and got the stink of this loss off them before they boarded the plane back to Cincinnati. On this episode: The Bengals added a new quarterback to their roster and placed Joe Burrow on IR. What will the game plan be on offense now that Jake Browning is taking over? Look. This sucks. I know it. You know it. Joe Burrow had a normal offseason. He played in the preseason. The Bengals went 2-0 for to start the season for the first time in Zac Taylor's tenure, and now "poof" Burrow goes down to injury once again. It sucks. I'm not a silver linings guy, not a Mr. Brightside. But I'm also not a quitter. This season is not over. Jake Browning can chuck the ball around and win some games. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he has a vast arsenal of offensive weapons. This defense isn't bad. In fact, they might even be good. All I'm saying is, that they could still be a good team without Burrow and if they can be a good team without him, just imagine how scary they will be when he returns. Matt and Willie dive into the Burrow loss and what it means for the future. More pressingly, they discuss what happens next. This team isn't tanking. They are not hanging up the towel. They aren't cashing their paychecks and saying, "oh well, there is always next year." The did not waver when Burrow hit the turf and I would not expect them to do so anytime soon. The fun has only begun. Who Dey! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

The Bengals are 1-0. This is not a drill! Matt and Willie are here to break down the Bengals victory in Cleveland and what to look for as the season goes on. The won this weekend in perhaps the most unexpected way. Joe Flacco throwing the ball all over the place, while Joe Burrow struggles. The Bengals D stifling the Browns; run game. Being on the right side of kicking woes for a change. Losing time of possession by over 10 minutes and having 22 fewer offensive snaps. The Bengals not giving up a sack for over three quarters, then suddenly giving up 3 consecutive sacks. Dogs and cats, living together. Mass hysteria. The season is almost here. It’s time to get your story straight. Lay all your cards on the table. Here come the final takes before the Bengals hit the gridiron in 2025. What is going to happen? How are they going to do? Will they make another Super Bowl run or miss the playoffs? If only there were some ball-knowers around to break it all down… Oh wait, there are. We are Matt and Willie, and we know ball. Matt and Willie have all the Bengals takes you could ever ask for, and many that you would have never asked for. This week we talk about everything you need to know going into the Bengals opener: Who are this year’s captains and what does it mean?
What are they going to do at right guard?

Why, oh why? Joseph Ossai

Can the Bengals run defense stop the Browns rushing attack?

Can the Bengals pass protection hold up?

What about this Noah Fant guy?

What will the Risner family addition mean to Cincinnati?

How sharp is Demetrius Knight’s learning curve?

What does Trey Hendrickson mean to this team and more importantly, how quickly can he get going?
We also give our game predications and season-long predictions. So that will be fun. Once of us sees a lot of offense in this game and a record number of win for the season. The other one is Willie. It is time for this team to finally get out to a fast start, but first it is time for Matt and Willie. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On this episode: The Bengals and Trey Hendrickson have come to a cease-fire on the long-standing contractual issue between he and the club...sort of. It is a tale far too familiar for Bengals fans. The official end of the preseason and beginning of the regular season in Cincinnati occurs when a star player ends his holdout. Trey Hendrickson gets a big raise, and just like that preseason is over. It’s kind of like Groundhogs Day, but Punxsutawney Phil a much better against the run. The other sign that training camp has ended is the cuts. “And then there were 53” If you see that as an Agatha Christie reference, we can be friends. If you see that as Seinfeld reference, we can still be friends, but you really pick up a book once in a while. The Bengals have made their cuts and are down to their “final” roster. That is of course final until waiver claims go through, which depending on when you are reading this, may have already happened. If this is the case, what is the future like? But I digress… The Bengals have made their initial cuts and Matt and Willie have much to discuss. Preseason darling Mitchell Tinsley has earned his stripes.
Matt Lee has made the team! This is not a drill people!

What’s the deal with keeping only 8 offensive linemen?

How did 2 UDFA DTs make the squad?

Are 5 TEs enough?

Bengals stick with Marco Wilson and D.J. Ivey, but send

When did the Balyn Lux hype train derail?

Is PJ Jules in it for the long term?

Who the heck is William Wagner?
All this and Andy Rooney on this week’s edition of Matt and Willie Know Ball Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
