We sit down with Dr Al Gabriel, a man of many talents. A molecular biologist with a background in ecology and genetics, a BASC Council member (Northumberland), a keen Roe stalker and a freelance writer for shooting magazines, whilst also on a mission to promote diversity in shooting and public understanding of country sports. Sam tells me about the changes to Scottish deerstalking and how things have evolved through history. Originating from Cumbria but spending most of his working life managing Scottish deer, he reflects and gives opinion on BASC’s suggestion to let amateur stalkers manage deer over public land in Scotland to save cull costs, plus a whole lot more chatter on garrons, stag costs and of course lead free ammo!
