Taking care of your brain doesn’t require a completely different healthy lifestyle. Many of the everyday habits that support your heart, muscles, sleep, and overall health can support your brain too. In this episode of the Bloom and Beyond Podcast, I’m talking about practical ways to support brain health as we age, including movement, strength training, sleep, nutrition, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Small choices add up, and the healthy habits you build today may support both your body and your brain.
Spending time alone and feeling lonely aren’t necessarily the same thing. As our lives change, we may find ourselves spending more time on our own—sometimes by choice and sometimes because of circumstances we didn’t choose. In this episode of the Bloom and Beyond Podcast, I share what I learned from spending my 59th birthday on my own and explore how we can become more comfortable enjoying our own company without losing the importance of meaningful relationships and social connection. We’ll talk about doing things without waiting for someone else to join us, creating things to look forward to, staying curious as we get older, recognizing when solitude has become loneliness, and continuing to build a life we genuinely enjoy. Learning to enjoy your own company doesn’t mean choosing a life without other people. It means realizing that your life doesn’t have to be put on hold when you’re by yourself. Subscribe to Bloom and Beyond for practical, evidence-informed conversations about health, healthy aging, and living well after 40.
Staying healthy after 40 is about more than weight. Maintaining muscle, protecting your bones, supporting your heart and metabolic health, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and staying active all become increasingly important as we age. In this episode of the Bloom and Beyond Podcast, I share practical ways women over 40 can support healthy aging without expensive gym memberships, complicated programs, or trying to change everything at once. We’ll talk about strength training you can do at home, walking, protein and nutrition, bone health, balance, sleep, stress, preventive health, and simple habits that can help you stay strong and independent for years to come. As I approach my 59th birthday, I’m also asking a bigger question: What are we staying healthy for? Healthy aging isn’t about trying to stop getting older. It’s about taking care of ourselves now so we can continue doing the things we love. Subscribe to Bloom and Beyond for practical, evidence-informed ways to build healthier habits after 40.
Protein becomes increasingly important as women move through their 40s and beyond. Changes in estrogen, muscle mass, and bone density can make preserving strength and supporting healthy aging more important than ever. In this episode of the Bloom and Beyond Podcast, we talk about how much protein women over 40 may need, why protein matters for muscle and bone health, and simple ways to get more throughout the day. You’ll also learn how to build meals by thinking about protein first, creative ways to increase protein without relying on shakes, and why protein and strength training work so well together. You don’t have to completely change the way you eat. A few intentional changes can help you make protein a regular part of every meal.
What if improving your health didn’t require changing everything at once? Many people believe they need the perfect diet, an intense workout routine, or endless motivation before they can begin living a healthier life. Lasting change often starts with one simple habit. In this episode of the Bloom and Beyond Podcast, I share the one health habit I recommend most often and explain why it can become the foundation for better health. You’ll learn how this simple daily habit supports heart health, helps manage stress, improves sleep, supports healthy blood sugar, and creates momentum for other healthy habits. If you’ve been wondering where to begin, this episode will give you one realistic action you can take today.
