Hey hey BATT Family! We had an incredible opportunity to sit down with Jamey Stegmaier from Stonemaier Games to discuss the current tariff situation, how it effects his business and the larger gaming industry as a whole, and some of the solutions he thinks could make the situation easier for everybody. We had a little bit over a half hour of his time and we stuck pretty closely to that. We have edited this conversation for clarity's sake, but other than that the conversation is presented as it was recorded. Scott and Mark were at the BATT studio in Indiana and Jamey joined in remotely from his office in St. Louis.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about what was discussed here, please feel free to reach out! --- Notes! 1) Jamey did provide his article that he researched supply chain labour certification. It is located here, https://stonemaiergames.com/how-can-we-fix-this-together-tariffs-manufacturing-and-a-solution/, and you can find all of his sources within that link.  --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Happy 2025 everybody! Sorry for lying to you with yesterday's Odds & Ends episode saying that we were done until Episode 15 released. Whoops. Guess we just had more content in the can for you. We really are going to be done until Episode 15 releases on January 14th though.  --- Scott and Mark discuss their revised Top Ten of All Time lists in this episode. When we did the recording of our original lists in June, Scott simply hadn't done anything like that before. Mark's list was based off of doing them for five years at that point and it was an interesting conversation. This time around they both took a lot more time to craft the lists and there are a lot of interesting surprises here. There is a section of discussion about what the qualifications for making the list and how each list was compiled before actually getting into the top tens themselves. Per normal, all parts of the discussion are appropriately chaptered out if you want to jump to any portion, but hopefully you'll find what that first discussion as interesting as we did. If you would like to skip ahead into the list, that timestamp is 19:19. --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro  00:03:48 - How the List Was Made 00:19:17 - Scott's Ten 00:20:47 - Mark's Ten 00:22:19 - Scott's Nine 00:24:00 - Mark's Nine 00:27:08 - Scott's Eight 00:29:01 - Mark's Eight 00:31:46 - Scott's Seven 00:34:23 - Mark's Seven 00:37:33 - Scott's Six 00:41:13 - Mark's Six 00:44:38 - Scott's Five 00:47:33 - Mark's Five 00:50:02 - Scott's Four 00:52:34 - Mark's Four 00:55:40 - Scott's Three 00:57:18 - Mark's Three 01:00:09 - Scott's Two 01:03:34 - Mark's Two 01:07:50 - Scott's One 01:11:17 - Mark's One 01:19:47 - Our Final Thoughts / Reactions 01:21:32 - Contact Info / Sponsors  01:22:54 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) If you would like to check out Mark's Top 100 list, it can be found at: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/347553/top-100-games-2024-edition 2) Mark loves that Scott goes full Midwest around the 20:19 mark in his number ten. 3) Scott makes mention of something that will end up in the next Odds & Ends episode during Mark's nine that references his number eleven. Eleven gets talked about further on in the episode, but Mark did say what his thirteen was and that's part of that conversation. That whole discussion got lifted from this episode for length. 4) Mark totally missed an opportunity to say that we already have Ticket to Ride Legacy: Europe and it's called Brass. What a doof. 5) Scott basically screamed at 1:03:00 and Mark had to soften it down because he almost went deaf when it hit at original volume.  6) There was mention of a photoshoot near the end of the episode. Some of those photos have ended up on our website (or will be soon), some are used in our socials, and some of them are on our media kits. It's the best time of the year: Spooky Season! And darn it if Mark and Scott didn't forget to record a segment on this for release in an October episode. The joy of not considering release dates during pre-production. That'll be changing in the future, but until then have a whole singular helping of the topic. Enjoy! 00:00:00 - Intro  00:01:36 - Honorable Mentions 00:06:37 - Scott Game 1 00:08:49 - Mark Game 1  00:11:32 - Scott Game 2 00:15:20 - Mark Game 2 00:20:53 - Scott Game 3 00:26:43 - Mark Game 3 00:30:23 - Scott's Bonus Question! 00:32:40 - Plugs / Outro **Mark would have totally put Nightfall on the list had he remembered it. What an oversight! It would have taken the place of The Few and Cursed most likely. You'll hear about that soon enough probably. **There was an additional conversation about a game called Coma Ward that was ultimately cut from the episode. It was an attempt at another publisher to come up with a modern version of Betrayal at House on the Hill and it ultimately failed. Mark didn't want to just dunk on it in this episode, so that content may come out in a future Odds and Ends episode.   **You might be wondering why Neither Mark nor Scott mentioned Horrified (a specific entry or the series) and it's because ultimately neither one likes it enough. Mark feels the first game is by far the best, but gets tired of the pick up and deliver whereas the rest of the series is deeply unbalanced and missing a lot of rules. Scott thinks that while the original Horrified felt very groundbreaking at the time that it was released, the other versions don't bring anything new to the table and there are a lot of games out there that are scarier and (for him) more fun.  **We did discuss the Night Cage and considered putting it on the list, but the issue is that neither of us feel like it's a very good game. It's an incredible and substantially creepy theme with a really solid production, but in Scott's words: "I love its idea, its just not that great of a game. It ends up being Top Deck: The Game." Mark can't really disagree with that feeling and wants another try from the publisher at it.  **Both Scott and Jason really enjoy the game Atmosfear. It is possible to find it online for anywhere between $50-$80 normally and all the video content is available on YouTube so you don't have to rely on a VCR. Go wild! Be spooky! **And as a final side note, Scott thought about pulling a practical joke on Mark and do the Top Five Snoopy Games but he was very tired and forgot the joke until after post recording.  You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to the review for Endangered (Second Edition). This was provided to us by Grand Gamers Guild in support of their new Kickstarter campaign for Endangered: Australia, which goes live on September 2nd. Endangered is a co-op game for 1-4 players and takes about an hour per session to play through trying to save an endangered species in scenario based gameplay. Spoiler alert, we really enjoyed this one. Hey hey BATT Family! We are stoked to take part in the Kickstarter launch for IV Studios' next game, Realm of Reckoning. We spent an enormous amount of time with it because we did enjoy it as much as we did. This is a two to five player area control, drafting, bidding game that takes around ninety to one hundred twenty minutes to play. It is currently on Kickstarter and can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ivstudios/realm-of-reckoning. The base edition of the game starts at $89 but does have a variety of extra materials you can pick up as well. You've heard us say it before, but the mad scientists at IV are back at it and have provided an incredibly unique and genuinely fascinating game to play. We had a ton of things to say and tear apart with this one, so this preview episode is about double our regular length because we do feel it needs it. This is by far IV's heaviest game but it still manages to be quite approachable. So check out the episode and then go check out the Kickstarter! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:00:35 - How the Game Plays 00:08:33 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:14:44 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:25:08 - Replayability / Player Count 00:30:24 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:43:15 - Recommendations  00:45:43 - Final Thoughts / Outro ---   Notes! 1) We recorded this shortly before the announcement of the rules for the two player version of the game had been finalized and announced. So part of the conversation here is discussing a couple of things related to being a three player minimum game. 2) We also discussed early on in the rules teach that there will always be nine reckonings. According to the two player rules, that will still be the case as you are not allowed to get rid of reckoning cards from the simulated player's stack. There was a 2p gameplay video released, so if you'd like to check it out you can do so at IV's channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4SVj-_iwGI 3) Check it out on Kickstarter! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ivstudios/realm-of-reckoning (We did not get to experiment with any of the extra stuff like the playmat or metal monuments so we don't have any information there.)   --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. BATT Family! We finally get to spill all of our thoughts out on the newest obsession here in the studio. Scales of Fate is the newest game from IV Studio and a new two-player only game set in the world of Veiled Fate. If you've been listening to BATT, you know that Veiled Fate is Mark's number one game so the chance to get in on this preview was huge for the team. The game does not disappoint in the slightest. Hey hey BATT Family! This week's episode is another episode of our This or That (or (in this case) the Other Thing) as we run down the three games of Stonemaier's Span series. We've been deliberating on two of the games for quite some time and now that we have Finspan in hand and have gotten to play it quite a bit, we felt it was finally time to break this down. We hope you enjoy this specific deep dive (pun unintended) into the three games! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:45 - Game Overviews 00:03:36 - Theme 00:08:41 - Production 00:18:39 - Gameplay 00:26:54 - Teachability 00:29:22 - Replayability 00:29:55 - Expansions 00:35:33 - Solo Modes 00:38:00 - Final Thoughts / Pick 00:44:39 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) Our conversation is making the assumption you know the basic system of Wingspan as we don't go into specific detail of how to play any of the three in particular. We discuss their various differences but not how the games fully function. 2) All copies of the games we discussed were purchased by Mark and are his personal copies. This is not a sponsored set of reviews/comparisons in any way. 3) When choosing which game Mark would pick of the three during the Final Thoughts section, almost a minute of deliberation was cut as he couldn't choose. That's how close two of the games are for him.  --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Mark and Scott take on two games of the Flatout Trilogy, Calico and Cascadia, and break down the way the games work, why they like the one they do, and what they don't enjoy in the other. Reviews: Squirrel Away

Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to this review for Squirrel Away! Squirrel Away is a 3-6 player bluffing game that was provided to us by the publisher Floodgate Games. It is designed by Clarence Simpson and is legitimately a wonderful game. If you like bluffing and raucous moments in party games, you've gotta look into this one. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to our series of reviews for the brand new, small box IV Studios games. In this review we'll be taking a look at Pillars of Fate. Pillars of Fate is the new 2 player only game in the Veiled Fate series of games from IV. This game is a lane battler that will have players placing cards within 3 lanes over the course of 3 rounds called ages. This game will be using all of the characters as introducted between Veiled Fate and it's Tribunal expansion and maintain the Scorpion/Feather structure that you may be used to from those games. While you do not have to have played the other two games in the series, having the familiarity of them and how they operate will make onboarding with this game much easier. A game of Pillars of Fate will take you about 30 minutes per session. We were provided this copy by IV and as such this is a sponsored review of the deluxe edition of the game that will be available at Gen Con later this week.  --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:00:55 - How the Game Plays 00:08:07 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:09:35 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:12:44 - Solo Mode / Player Count / Replayability 00:14:21 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:18:22 - Recommendations 00:20:31 - Final Thoughts  00:21:57 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) Once more, you can find IV Studios at Booth 2239 at Gen Con and the game will be releasing at $30.  --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to our series of reviews for the brand new, small box IV Studios games. In this review we'll be taking a look at Graft, the new small box drafting and push your luck game from IV Studios set in the world of another of their games, the soon to be released Tend. While you can very much see the threads connecting the two games together if you've played them - essentially the card rows you'll be building in Graft are the manifest that you assemble by stamping in Tend - you certainly do not need to play one to know the other. Graft is the much, much lighter and shorter game for 3-5 players and will take you about 30 minutes per session. We were provided this copy by IV and as such this is a sponsored review of the deluxe edition of the game that will be available at Gen Con later this week.  --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:00:54 - How the Game Plays 00:07:22 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:09:29 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:12:43 - Solo Mode / Player Count / Replayability 00:15:08 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:18:13 - Recommendations 00:19:18 - Final Thoughts  00:21:57 - Outro ---   Notes! In this review we'll be taking a look at Time to Panic. In Time to Panic, you're trying to repair a shattered timeline in this fully cooperative game for 1-4 players, taking approximately 30-45 minutes per session. Your goal is to fully align a series of cards numbered 1-36 into as correct of an order as possible. We were provided this copy by IV and as such this is a sponsored review of the deluxe edition of the game that will be available at Gen Con later this week.  --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:01 - How the Game Plays 00:08:36 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:10:20 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:14:03 - Solo Mode / Player Count / Replayability 00:18:03 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:23:40 - Recommendations 00:25:16 - Final Thoughts  00:26:39 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) Once more, you can find IV Studios at Booth 2239 at Gen Con and the game will be releasing at $30.  --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to our review for Vantage. This is not a sponsored review, but Jason and I were provided our copies of the game as compensation for working the booth at GenCon. We refer to this within the episode itself, but to be clear we were given the game to learn and play so that we could accurately teach it at GenCon. Stonemaier did not ask for this review and we did get permission to do this ahead of time just in case. Regardless! We like the game quite a bit. If you're concerned about any spoilers here, we drop our scores within the first few minutes before explaining anything at all about the game so that way you don't have to worry about that. We actually managed to not spoil any of the content through our discussions but we also get that certain audiences don't want to know anything beyond the basic dice/card interactions before opening the box and we wanted to respect that. Vantage is a huge open world sandbox game comprised of over 1700 cards for 1-6 players and was designed by Jamey Stegmaier over the course of eight years. Come crash land on the planet with us to learn what we thought about the game and then once you've gotten to do so let us know your opinions on it at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro / Scores / Non-Spoiler Comments 00:03:08 - How the Game Plays 00:10:25 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:15:01 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:22:58 - Replayability / Player Count / Solo Mode 00:30:12 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:53:01 - Final Thoughts  00:56:29 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) Jason definitely jumped in and helped me explain the game a bit because of how late things were when we recorded and I just started forgetting a couple of key things. So thanks for the assist Jason! 2) Around the 40 minute mark you can just hear Mark's 4 year old jumping in the background for a couple minutes. It's not loud but it is there, so sorry about that. The joys of having a basement studio. 3) Scott was around for this entire recording session. He just let Jason and I go nuts and didn't have much additional to add beyond what we all said. --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. Hey hey BATT Family! We have another sponsored review from Hobby World, this time their family game Tales of Tails. This is a light weight, take that, dungeon crawler featuring dogtaurs. Hey hey BATT Family! We are back with another sponsored review, this time provided by Hobby World. Space Bureau is an action selection, pick up and deliver game for 1-4 players. It has a fun vibe about it and will appeal to players that like to build action networks and explore a galaxy. The game will play over 14 turns per player and give you a surprising amount of opportunity to do plenty of actions on each turn. We hope you enjoy this review and you let us know if you've gotten to try it yourself and what you think of it! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:00:46 - How the Game Plays 00:03:39 - Learning Curve / Ease of Teach 00:05:20 - Artwork / Components / Iconography 00:08:39 - Replayability 00:09:52 - What's to Like, What's to Dislike  00:12:42 - Solo Mode  00:13:19 - Recommendations 00:15:03 - Final Thoughts / Outro ---   Notes! 1) Just beceause Mark prefers Starry Night Sky to Wormholes, doesn't mean you shouldn't try Wormholes out. It's a really solid game. He just wants it to let you use the wormhole network you've all built for more than five turns at the end. If you like that ramp up and slam to a stop, it might be a great game for you.  2) Also, just for transparency, while we play the game with each other at least once we do each play the games we review with other play groups as well. With this one, we just sat down and recorded it right at the end of a play session and that was just on top of our heads. --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com.
