Hello, Hey, Hi and welcome to the first episode of Boldensity. My name is Celeste and I am a Corporate Receptionist. I have been with the company since Febuary of 2020 and have felt the need to root in since day 1. In the wake of the events that lead to the death of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, rose a much needed Black Affinity Group. Within this group, the idea of a podcast rose as a way for employees to escape the day for a brief moment and just read or listen on ways to recognize, process and deal with whatever you may be feeling.
A little about me: I am a 30-year-old black woman born and raised in WA. I have a 5-year-old daughter with special needs. I grew up in a very diverse household with divorced parents that got along great and even went to the same church for years together. Very rare I am aware. I deal with my own issues, mainly being anxiety and have had my own traumas over the course of my life time. You may think I am sharing too much but in my opinion I think that is an issue within the black community. Without sharing, you may feel alone, you may not be aware that someone else is going through the same thing or you may not be aware of the resources out there. I grew up with the notion of not sharing your business and spend a lot of years not being able to truly build community. Yes, we are all entitled to our own privacy and everything doesn’t have to be shared…but there is a beauty in pouring out, venting, sharing, whatever you may label it as. We don’t always have to be so strong and hold everything. It is ok to let go from time to time.
I decided to create this podcast because I have sought out a lot of resources to encourage mental and emotional health that I would love to share with you. I also find it therapeutic to talk through the resources that I find and utilize in my personal life; I am still a work in progress and talking to myself helps me sort my thoughts. I figured a podcast was a way to make myself look less crazy. I hope it works lol
I always aim to come correct with my research on an array of topics dealing with mental and emotional wellness and tools but am open to any feedback. I want to bring my full self to you. You are not required to do so BUT if you feel comfortable; I would love to know what’s on your mind: feel free to email or voice message at boldensity@gmail.com. I also will be typing up each week’s episode, please let me know how I can get it to you. If you need a different method of communication in order to engage or any particular accommodations again, please let me know.
Thank you and I look forward to our moments; take care and be well!
