In this final episode of Thursday Murder Club the sisters bring on a very special segment - UK correspondent FSmith! The sisters learn stones are used for measurement, grassed is not a common phrase, and all you need to not be liked is to be named Shirley! Candice and Chrissy wrap up The Perfect Marriage- Chrissy is distressed at the injustice and Candice loves the kookiness of the story. We ask all of our questions like: Is this the ending we wanted? How did no one question all the conflicts of interests in this case? Why is everyone in this town evil? And, was Sarah possessed by the spirit of Killie Millie and will there be a Housemaid/Marriage crossover book?! Let us know your thoughts on this wild ride by emailing us at bookalicious.pod@gmail.com ! Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/cw/BookaliciousPod Buy us a Coffeehttps://buymeacoffee.com/bookaliciouspod
The sisters make history in their first movie recap - Netflix Thursday Murder Club. While the movie has glimmers of good scenes, Candice calls it a flop & demands a miniseries. Chrissy said she enjoyed it, but later reveals she was bored & Mom fell asleep.Timeline wise, this is the last episode recorded before baby Franklet arrives. You wont get an update until November!Join us next week for another granny-fiction read, Remarkably Bright CreaturesPatreonhttps://www.patreon.com/cw/BookaliciousPod Buy us a Coffeehttps://buymeacoffee.com/bookaliciouspod
The Bookalicious Sisters revisit the beautiful world of Marsyas Island by TJ Klune as recommended by one of our listeners (We see you Defy Gravity/Guy35!)While met with familiar faces, there is a tonal shift in TJ's writing - one of frustration and hurt that seeps through these chapters. To better understand where TJ is coming from, Candice prepares background material that TJ references throughout the book (links below for Spotify users!)We do our best to discuss these very heavy topics, but we might not get it 100% right! We are in the LAST conversation about our favorite book Lessons in Chemistry and the girls love it so much they don't want this series to end, so they take a whole 2 hours to go through it!! In part one, we discuss all the unbelievable happenings of Harriet, Mad, the fairy godmother, and more. Tune in next time to hear the finale of Lessons in Chemistry, along with some new games the sisters play after they finish the book!
The Quiet Man - dragging his wife scene
The (four infinity stones, Heads of Hogwarts, Pevensie children, etc.) are all together for the first time! On what may be the best episode of Bookalicious, the siblings choose high school superlatives for each other and decide who's in and who's out on the pod (spoiler: Jordan won ownership rights to the pod back in Elantris so he gets to decide). Despite Sam's best efforts to usurp power and boot off Chrissy after her long hiatus, it appears she is still safe during this round of budget cuts on our $0 earning pod.
As they get back to the last part of Narnia, Candice points out many implausibilities, such as: Why is Peter such a good warrior when he just got his sword ten minutes ago? Why didn't the White Witch kill Edmund as soon as she could? How could all four children completely forget their families and life in England as they squash out the busy-bodies in Narnia? And, how does time even work in this place?? All these questions and more are discussed in the episode.
Another siblings falls off the pod-wagon and it's down to two infinity stones. After a harrowing escapade of nailing down a podding block during the holidays, Candice & Sam connect on a Friday afternoon
The duo spend time catching up on the holidays, discuss their own and their partner's holiday dysfunction, & say hello to their new listener in Arizona (hi!)
We pick up with Pevensie children entering Narnia, checking on Mr. Tumnus for the 3rd time to make sure the secret police have not caught him, following a bird they are sure is on the 'good side' deep into the forest, ignoring any sound advice they receive and more!
Join us next week for our final conclusion on The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe
Our LAST episode of Lessons in Chemistry!! If you think you're excited, you should see us. We talk all things Fairy Godmother, Tonya Harding aka Harriet Sloane aka Miss Frask, and the spaceship in which we find ourselves in the last part of the book. Chrissy also has a new end-of-book game for the sisters to play that justifies all their thoughts on Lessons in Chemistry.
See alternate book covers for Lessons in Chemistry here.
The girlies are back with the penultimate episode of Lessons in Chemistry (can you BELIEVE IT?)
Candice is reeling with the guilt of repurposing a Christmas Gift and we have a surprise appearance from Chrissy's Doctor-to-Be. At the end the girlies tease their next book they will be reviewing, 'The Housemaid,' by Freda McFadden.
We pick up with Ms. Elizabeth Zott once again in the hot seat for saying her unpopular opinions. For the second review in a row, the girlies find themselves in a spaceship for the last quarter of the novel. Feeling reminiscent to 'Thirteen Reason's Why,' every type of drama seems to unfold in this story.
Harriet makes a big decision regarding her personal life, and the Madeline's Zott's very odd behavior is put on blast for the entire world to judge
Another deep dive into Lessons in Chemistry! Candice and Chrissy talk about COVID cruises, super-genius Mad Zott, and Elizabeth's super-human ability to cook dinner, answer listener questions, and have manifestos all in her 30 minute show.
Chrissy returns from her cruise sabbatical and the girls are back at it with Lessons in Chemistry! Candice wants to know all about Chrissy's trip but ends up only learning about the day before the cruise because the girls talk too much and focus on every detail. On brand.
Things have taken a turn for the better with Elizabeth Zott and Candice and Chrissy are no longer depressed when discussing Lessons in Chemistry. We meet Walter Pine (fave and also the character we would be) and Phil Abysmal (ick stamp), discuss wearing speedos in the workplace, and find out Popeye is a liar. Also, you can see Candice's recall ability in real time as she forgets a word in the first ten minutes of the pod but remembers it one full hour later.
Big bummer for Lessons in Chemistry this week - we are OUT OF EPISODES! It's not even Christmas & we've eaten through all of our winter rations :(
We will be back next week with a 3 part mini-series on The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe. We will be reading till one of the siblings runs away (not sure the chapter but that general area)
If you are CRAVING more Bookalicious, we have just wrapped our Elantris journey in a mere 27.5 hours, so feel free to listen (or relisten) to the amazing ride that was Elantris
Time Stamps:
Chapter 21 Minute 13
Chapter 22 Minute
Chapter 23 Minute 50
Candice is on double duty as Chrissy is eyes deep studying for finals.
Only an hour of time has passed since Episode 7 but the Bookalicious pod keeps racking up listens, getting another THREE listens since Part 7. The total is 317 listens, thanks to all our LOYAL FANS!
Wishing for the happy days of Elantris, the girls trudge through the death spiral that is chronicling the depressing life of Elizabeth Zott.
After several tangents, the sisters identify that one of them needs to have read the book before going into a 17 hour deep dive on an unknown novel. Candice argues for The Ninth House, an excellent book of mystery & suspense. Whereas Chrissy suggest a YA novel - the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & snakes - which is guaranteed to be another flop.
Time Stamps:
Bookalytics starts at minute 16
Chapter 19 starts at minute 24
Chapter 20 starts at 53 minutes
Candice & Chrissy are back on the Lesson in Chemistry grind. Justice is swift as Candice gets punked by a Podcaster eHarmony add disguises themselves as a listener email. The sisters ask the tough hitting questions: "How quickly would you go through your space rations if you were an astronaut?" and "How do you rent out a yacht?"
After spending time saying hello to all their new listeners around the US, the girlies get ready to pod.
We find out that Mad Zott, much like the odd baby of Bella & Edward in Twilight, becomes 40 years old by her 4th calendar year of life.
Elizabeth continues her depressing journey through several major setbacks. The girls question Elizabeth's business skills as has become penniless even though she has free childcare and rent and runs her own consulting business where she sets her prices.
Embarrassment ensues as the sisters lack of history is once again put on blast. The sisters launch a Fiction or 50s where they do not know the answer - were women able to negotiate salary in the 1950s? Unable to find a good answer, this fact goes unverified (as all of our facts tend to do)
The girlies are back at it with a quick 80 minute mini-episode on Lessons in Chemistry. They start off by wasting time discussing the days of the week. They find the riveting finding that Sunday is the day between Saturday & Monday and is considered the first day of the week in US but the last day of the week in Czech.
We find out that Chrissy is a masochist (she has to have some bad quality) and is planning on running a marathon but has not been sticking to her running plan.
To make sure they stick to their timeline, they set a timer to make sure they stay on track. Within the first 5 minutes of discussing the book, Candice requests to pause the timer to give her time to do research on tombstone engravers. Chrissy makes sure we stick to our timer so our Fiction or Fifties goes unverified.
The girls discuss the difficulty of motherhood - especially single-motherhood, abortions, why focusing on abortion is actually the wrong conversation to have, how gender roles are introduced before babies are even born, and more heavy topics in another depressing episode of Lessons in Chemistry.
Luckily there is light at the end of this tunnel with the introduction of Harriet Sloan in next weeks episode Part 6
Kourtney Kardashian pulling out her baby
Ultra Marathons
The History of Tombstone Engraving
The girlies show off their procrastination skills by doing their darndest to not discuss the very depressing chapters that chronicle Elizabeth Zott's life. They start off by welcoming their new listeners from around the US - thanks for listening (please leave us a 5 star review).
Bookalicious hits a pivotal moment in this this episode by hosting their first non-familial guest! The girlies make sure to utilize this opportunity to waste more time and discuss more things! The intro takes almost 20 minutes (this is not us taking feedback to add time stamps but Candice describing the pod)
While the girlies don't make much progress in the book, they do tackle big conversations - abortion, women-NOT-supporting-women, how stoics move through the world, why men don't have the same expectations in child rearing as women, and most of all the new Netflix Movie Pain Hustler starring Emily Blunt (shameless plug for algo. keywords)
Chrissy realizes at the end of this episode we have yet to finish one book! She comes up with a brilliant plan to hide the final episode behind a Patreon paywall (kidding, kidding...)
Insects carrying babies on their backs and becoming food for their wifey
Sad life of the Lion King & his harem pride
Pain Hustlers
President Roosevelts Daughter Alice
After spending more than one (1!!) hour on Chapter 8, the ladies warp speed through Ch 9-11. Chrissy is triggered by the Catholic boys home and both Candice and Chrissy are depressed by the end of Ch 11. BUT their spirits are lifted when they remember their first and most beautifully written review! The book keeps getting sad, so cheer us up by leaving a 5-star review on Spotify or writing us all the accolades on an Apple podcast review. If you have less than glowing remarks, you can email us at bookalicious.pod@gmail.com
Also in this episode:
Our first rendition of Fiction or 50's?
Dating books that didn't age well.
Dino or dino?
ATTENTION: SPOILER for Chapter 11!
Candice is recovering from a cold so the sisters no longer sound like one person podding alone. The girlies learn that there is no better coattail to ride than Taylor Swifts.
In Bookalytics, we find that Bookalicious is WORLD WIDE with up to 1 listener across 7 countries. Chrissy correctly identifies our target audience - Slow Readers of TikTok, and Candice commits to making as many pop-culture references as possible #Britney #TheWomaninMe
Chrissy sped-read half of the book anticipating we would get to Chapter 18. The girlies fall 10 chapters short and only reach to Chapter 8.
We pick up with Calvin & Elizabeth falling in nerd-love. Chrissy realizes that she might be the obnoxious in-love couple that gives Candice acid reflux. We learn that Calvin has some head sniffing tendencies a la President Joe Biden. We meet the peanut gallery that is full of the geodudes (i.e. rocks for jocks geologists) + the Tonya-Harding-Miss-Frask. Chrissy gets a history lesson of the drama that was the 1998 Ice Skating Olympics
Chrissy does her best to speed the process up, but Candice's notes end up with her reading the entirety of Chapter 7. Chrissy gets the last laugh as Candice had the pleasure of editing this very long episode.
Simone Biles History
Serena & Venus Williams History
13 Reasons Why going off the rails
Tonya Harding
Joe Biden smelling heads

We begin Lessons in Chemistry but first spend too much time trying to learn all the American history we missed in school.
Candice goes rogue and calls out all the groups of people who are obsessed with their hobby - crossfit, keto, vegans, and Swifties. Candice is now in witness protection hiding from Taylor Swifts army
We round the episode out with Calvin giving Pikachu Face on sex discrimination
