Description

On The DarkHorse Podcast, we will explore questions that matter, with tools that work. Weekly episodes of "The Evolutionary Lens" are co-hosted with Heather Heying, in which we use an evolutionary toolkit to reveal patterns in nature--including human nature. Other episodes will feature Bret hosting long form discussions. Some guests will be well known, others obscure, but all of them are chosen because they have demonstrated unusual insight. The state and future of civilization will be a recurring theme, so buckle up!

In this 81st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss how it is that claims of knowledge are made, and how social norms overlay our ability to think: the sociology of epistemology. We discuss lab leak hypothesis, why intellectual credit matters, and why the press needs to do better. Then: get physically active for a better outcome if you get Covid. And: trans ideology comes to kickboxing, and also to taxonomy, with an ant named they. Then: a poem found in NW Portland. In this episode, we again discuss the research showing that SARS-CoV2’s spike protein is sufficient on its own to cause disease. The authors believe that this is good news with regard to the vaccines currently in circulation; they may be right. We discuss the paper, the authors’ clarification.  In this 76th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we discuss Portland going off the rails again. More riots and vandalism happened downtown, and we went to document some of it: the Apple store, the dumpster fires, the volunteers picking up trash, the companies proclaiming that we are “united by love” while (only) the white women in their displays are crossed out by activists. Meanwhile, the public schools debate changing names and mascots, and we are told that we need to register our cats. Then: a discussion of four numbers in the news this week. Three: shots now needed for the Pfizer vaccine. Ninety: the percentage of false positives from Covid tests in England. Thirteen: the proposed new number of Supreme Court Justices. 2.5 billion: the number of T. rexes who once roamed the Earth. Penultimately, we discuss lizards that aren’t lizards (but are in fact salamanders). And finally: footage from a coyote den that we (or rather, our dog) found near us, which had in it a mother and two kits. Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. In this 75th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.  In this episode we discuss privacy, and the amazing things that we (and you) can see with game cameras: beaver, river otters, nutria, coyotes. Then: should children be allowed to medically and surgically transition? One approach to understanding our answer is to consider type-I vs type-II errors in statistics. And: shall we drug children to get them to fit with modernity (specifically, a new ADHD drug)? What helps breed “persistence” in children? In this 74th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This episode marks the first episode in which we broadcast ads. After speaking two ads at the top of the show, we devote the rest of the episode to a critique of advertising, a history of ads in nature (bird plumage or song, bright coloration or patterning on a toxic frog or butterfly), and a discussion of how ads have been used to drive editorial content in some places, notably magazines aimed at women and girls. In this 73rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This episode marks the one year anniversary of the Evolutionary Lens! We discuss its origin, and talk about the books we’ve read from on-air over the last year. In other news: A ship is stuck in the Suez Canal; Bret has an Evergreen take on the situation. Also the former head of the CDC, Robert Redfield, says that lab leak is the most likely origin for SARS-CoV2. Meanwhile, RT wants us to believe that the Amazon rainforest causes global warming. In happier news, saffron seems to lift depression. And finally: why we should absolutely be talking about detransition, which is what happens when people who have transitioned decide that they made an error, and work to regain their former sexual identities, health, and lives. Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. In this 72nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. It’s the Spring equinox, and there are frogs—frogs who are anatomically able to tune out some of the voices of other frogs whom they have no interest in. Then: Bret’s challenge to Ibram Kendi, which includes a simple proof involving dogs and anti-racism. And: the left are increasingly gullible; we provide an example from a class action lawsuit in California against the use of CRT in state agencies. Finally: Is widespread vaccination during a pandemic safe? We discuss the views of a scientist, Geert Vanden Bossche, who argues “no.”  Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is now available for pre-sale at amazon. In this 69th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. In this episode, we begin by discussing power, race and social media, specifically regarding the app Clubhouse. We talk about how Covid outcomes are affected by preexisting conditions, such as obesity and hypertension. We ask: should children be vaccinated, and are the reasons being proposed to do so justified? We review a truly sexist obituary of an esteemed scientist, and ask what should be done about it. And we review a new finding in octopi. DarkHorse merchandise now available at: store.darkhorsepodcast.org Find more from us on Bret’s website (https://bretweinstein.net) or Heather’s website (http://heatherheying.com). Become a member of the DarkHorse LiveStreams, and get access to an additional Q&A livestream every month. In this 68th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.In this episode, we begin by discussing ice storms and electrical outages, and what it suggests about differing ecologies. We review Daniel Schmactenberger’s categorization of “1st, 2nd, and 3rd person epistemics”, and discuss what they suggest about education. Meanwhile, the NYT argues for skipping the critical reasoning and going right to the answer. Modern fact-checkers are an existential threat to civilization. The NYT also thinks that ClubHouse’s “unfettered” conversations are a problem. The House Committee on Energy & Commerce is having a(nother) meeting on misinformation with big tech CEOs. Also, a group of activists got Wikipedia to take down a page on the lab leak hypothesis. Peter Embarek of the WHO commission explains why the lab leak hypothesis is unlikely (or does he?). Another new paper suggests that lab leak should be the default hypothesis. And finally: dung beetles, and what else they can offer us besides cool field projects.DarkHorse merchandise now available at: store.darkhorsepodcast.org Find more from us on Bret’s website (https://bretweinstein.net) or Heather’s website (http://heatherheying.com). Become a member of the DarkHorse LiveStreams, and get access to an additional Q&A livestream every month. what the hell is wrong with Steve? He seemed like he was on cocaine rambling and interrupting constantly. It literally made the show lose all value I wouldn't share it with anyone now.

Good info here but Steve is kind of an a hole, attacking the conversation and at times Robert and Bret for no reason, they’re all on the same team. I want Bret to just do one with Robert so that I can actually hear what he has to say. Geez

Remember, these are EBs not physicians. I agree with some but definitely not all of their spiel on ADHD, which was also very facile and dismissive. No, I don't have it nor does anyone in my family but I definitely see it. Is it overdiagnosed? Certainly, but that doesn't make it less real. Do we need to be cautious, absolutely but not everything is so simple. To use their own reasoning, just because Bret may have succeeded without treatment means everyone else will too and thus no one needs treatment. More faulty reasoning that they try to eschew. Secondly, just change the environment? In some cases sure, but how realistic is this for the rest of life or potentially one's goals that cannot be squeezed into a free reign set-up.

check out decoding the guru. it's a podcast where ACTUAL academics deconstruct IDW hacks like the Weinstein brothers. All these right wing conservatives masquerading as enlightened centrists really can't help but be endlessly self congratulatory with their holier than thou rhetoric.

@9:22: Assuming her recollection is correct, perhaps her department's head was more intelligent than she is. He posed the question as a continuum, whereas she claims she would have preferred a simple dichotomy, which would be an inefficient preliminary question, since "none" was an answer that also fit his framing. Another idiot eager to be offended.

Excellent. The answer to how we got here is SImple. Soviet Active Measures. Watch at length Yuri Bezmenov. He details the KBG methods of causing destabilization in the 1960's and how, after multi generations, you cause the society to attack each other... so Russia can move in and NORMALIZE they country. So amazingly accurate https://youtu.be/bX3EZCVj2XA
