Throughout history, humans have used tattoos to protect themselves against sorcery, claim membership in groups, declare their love, honor their loved ones, or simply express themselves. Tattoos date back thousands of years. Ötzi the Iceman is the 5200-year-old mummy who was found embedded in glacial ice in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps. He had sixty-one markings across his body that are considered to be tattooed by the experts. When you're building a house, a bridge, or some other impressive construction, some serious planning must be done, and every detail matters. The construction of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington was finished 1940, a twin suspension bridge was unique and one-of-the-kind construction never seen before. In today’s equivalent, it cost about 1 billion bucks. Still, despite the amount of money spent, the bridge lasted slightly over 4 months. Mount Everest is the highest point on the planet, and not so many people have managed to climb it. The first duo to have gone down in the history books for reaching Everest's summit were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay back in 1953. The Peaky Blinders were known to wear fitted jackets, lapeled overcoats, and peaked newsboy caps. You might have heard of them because of the famous TV show, but it’s not all fiction. The Peaky Blinders – and other gangs like it - came to be because of the poor living conditions and economic challenges of industrial England in the late 19th century. By the end of the 1800s, this gang included people of a variety of ages, from as young as twelve, up to the age of thirty. They were active in Birmingham until about 1910 when they were taken over by a larger gang, called The Birmingham Boys. It all happened in 2013 on a tugboat that was moving through the Atlantic waters along the coast of Nigeria. The tug was pulling a vessel with oil tanks. Then, all of a sudden, a huge wave formed, crashed into the ship, and broke the cable. The tugboat sank, but one crew member survived! Each of them weighed 60 tons, and they extended 81.5 feet above the deck. Such an impressive height was necessary to avoid covering the passengers in 100 tons of soot blown off daily. The smokestacks were placed at a 30° angle to look even more astonishing and imposing. No less awe-inspiring was the cost of the ship. Its construction demanded $7,500,000. If we take into account modern exchange rates and inflation, in 2016 they would be paying $166,000,000. Surprisingly, it would turn out cheaper than the production of the world-famous movie Titanic in 1997, which cost $200,000,000! Criminal negligence, tragic and unfortunate chain of coincidences, fire or ice: whatever it was, it took the lives of hundreds of people and still keeps the minds of scientists busy to this day.
