King Charles II, James May and Brian May wigs, Albion squandering a bunch of chances and Leeds fans being homophobic and aggressive. Standard! Joining Russell Guiver to discuss the matters of the day were Jack Phillips and, making his debut on the pod, his dad, Graham. Albion snatched a draw from the jaws of victory in the dying minutes and they really were dying minutes! as yet another team that should’ve been put to bed…..weren’t! We stuffed ‘em! Ooh yes! ManUre have been overdue this from us and boy did we oblige! It could and probably should have been more as Albion romped to a 4-0 win which keeps them 9th in the table. Russ requisitioned some of his usual ‘Noisy Boys’ and others besides - including We Are Brighton’s Scott McCarthy - to give their views and capture the mood on this magnificent day in the club’s Premier League history. Listen out for some Albion fans in the background shouting “SIU!” in the WSU and a ranting Man U fan at The Nelson during our post match drinkies 😉 Stand or fall!   UTA! The return of the prodigal son! Yes, Wedge’s middle son George was back from Oz for the first time in over 2.5 years and went straight from the airport to his Dad’s waiting car at home in Bedfordshire for the trip to Molineux. 33 hours journey wasn’t going to stop him and what a game to pick as Albion blitzed their hosts 0-3 (it should have been more!) as they marched on to 9th in the table! Your intrepid host Russell came along for the ride. Couldn’t miss George’s first game back on his extended return stay in Blighty! Stand or fall!   UTA! 🎶 Whoh oh oh oh, everywhere we go, watchin’ Brighnovalbion, pride of the south coast….. 🎶 @BrightonRockPod brightonrockpodcast@gmail.com Part of the Sport Social Podcast Network that can be found in all their glory at this rather suitable address: www.sport-social.co.uk  Please follow us for automatic downloads of new episodes and if you want to make us really happy please rate us five stars on Apple and any other platforms that provide the opportunity to do so! Well, that’s two home games unbeaten in a row and we scored goals from open play at The Amex….yes, really!!! Home match bogey boys Saaafmptn came to town and pegged us back after we had strutted into a two goal lead. Casting an eye each over these happenings were your regular hosts with the most Russ and Pete, plus pod regular Andy Bass. In part 2, the pod squad looked over the weekend’s other football events as the various divisional run-ins hotted up and made their predictions / declared their preferences for the PL ups and downs. It’s was a sunny St George’s Day down on the coast as Worthing FC’s own St George (Dowell, the owner) saw his beloved club lift the trophy via a final win of the season vs Brightlingsea Regent at Woodside Road. Pete and Russ were there for their final feature episode on WFC’s campaign, the end of a lovely series that was very handsomely enjoyed in 2021-22. There’s also a quick reflection on the Easter Monday visit to Horsham’s brand new stadium and on Albion’s latest fruitless trip to The Emptyhad. Next up…The Saints are coming to The Fortressless Amex! Another day in North London, another glorious win. Hey ho! I suppose we’ll just have to accept that 🎶 “North London is ours, North London is ours, we’re Brighton & Hove Albion, North London is ours!” 🎶 Yes Albion’s woes are behind them as they made it back-to-back wins in the capital and advanced to 40 points for the season, just one shy of our PL era points record. Russ and his crew were there to take in the delights of the day and to drink a taproom dry in celebration: standard! 😉 Stand or fall!   UTA! “We’ve scored a goooaa, we’ve scored a goooaa, we’ve scored a goal we’ve scored a goal we’ve scored a goal!” And then another! Yes Albion are back on track with a great win at The Emirates and our roving presenter from the north, Mr Alastair Jones, was there to document this glorious day, from pre match tipples to stadium vocals and a post match reflection back at the delightful Hammerton Brewery taproom. It’s all here, along with more merciless stick for Covid absentee Russ. Stand or fall!   UTA! As the dust settles on yet another failed attempt by Albion to win a match in the Premier League, Pete and Russ welcomed Kieran Maguire back onto the podcast once again to discuss the latest Brighton & Hove Albion FC accounts that have been published in the last few days. We delve into the connotations of having lost just over £1 million a week throughout the last financial year, the record high wages bill being paid and ask Kieran’s opinion on Albion’s overall strategy and his thoughts on the current team so far this season. Then in part two, Pete and Russ continued on with a further analysis of the weekend’s stalemate versus Norwich plus a look at some other bits of football news. Stand or fall!   UTA! Norwich Matchday Special

Norwich Matchday Special

2022-04-0501:01:58

Back at The Amex and the crew had the pleasure of seeing Albion avoid defeat. Whoo hoo! 👀 We spoke to a Norwich fan and beer podcaster who’s driving a bus through Ukraine delivering aid of orphans after this weekend, to Brett from The Caxton - of who’s hostelry we had been imbibing ourselves! - and bumped into Nick Szczepanik. It's time to round off the Dick Knight box set with the 4th and final part, taken from the concluding part of our second interview with the great man himself, Sir Dick Knight. In this episode Dick talks us through the processes, challenges and stresses of steering the planning process towards our ultimate goal of a permanent home back in dear old Brighty, which was finally achieved just over a decade ago. Dick Knight Box Set Part 3/4. In this episode we welcome club legend Dick Knight back onto the pod for another conversation talking about Dick’s time running the club during the Withdean years. There’s many a tale to tell including how Dick persuaded some higher profile managers in and how Albion managed to get Bobby Z down to dear ole Withers and ‘turn’ him into a striker! Russ, Peter and Andy (of the Bass variety) chewing the fat of the Spuds game while they work their way through Clapton Beer’s micro pub charms (in Stroud Green, don’t you know) ahead of the Potters Bar v Worthing match just to the north east of The Smoke. Listen out for WFC’s AwayBoys in action, we chat to Brad of that parish (and Albion’s), and to Worthing boss and former Albion CB Adam Hinshelwood! Russell invited his neighbour Mike Cotton down the local cafe for a coffee and a chinwag to talk about his lifelong love of his hometown club Spurs, his career as a musician working with and rubbing shoulders with some huge names of the industry and giving his not-so-confident thoughts on his team’s looming clash with The (win-overdue) Albion. In this mini episode, Russ and Pete spoke to Harriet Prior from The Anfield Wrap ahead of The Reds visit to Brighty this weekend. Harriet talks about her Liverpool-supporting backstory, how it’s been in her time up in that great footballing city since joining The Wrap and what her thoughts are on the big game. With Russ moonlighting at the Sussex derby at The Pan Siro (The Dripping Pan), Manchester’s finest, Alastair, took up the reigns to bring all the talk and atmos’ from Albion’s long trip north to face Britain’s now least palatable club at St James’ Park. At least the Geordies Al spoke to were as friendly a bunch as always so fair play to them. Stand or fall!   UTA! It’s back in The Zoom Room for a post match review pod featuring Russ, Peter and Andy K. After hearing the matchday thoughts from some usual suspects including a welcome return to the UK and the pod for Basel based Tipsy Tim Palmer, Peter, Russ and Andy dissect Albion’s frustrating performance in more detail before looking at senior team development in general this season and glancing at the loan progression in The Championship and other matters. There is also time to have a pop at FIFA, Leeds, and Steven Gerrard! Stand or fall!   UTA! Standing with Ukraine. Peace and love! After the pain and frustration of a dreary failure against Bogey Boys Burnley FC, we need cheering up, so it’s time for the second part of our initial conversation with club prez and all round Albion legend (should be Sir) Dick Knight. In this part, Dick covers B*ll Arch*r, helpful David Davies and his less helpful colleagues at the FA, an outrageous bond requirement, Martin Perry, prising control of The Albion, Dick’s Crawley Town FC proposal, fan power, Arch*r’s football club affiliation revealed, Fans United & THAT Hereford game, dreams of a brave new future, Brian Horton and his Priestfield era players (including the regaling of the legendary Gary Hart transfer deal story) and the importance of connecting with the fans. A combo episode this time incorporating our latest Fanzine Special with the Burnley Matchday Special. Russ met the creator and the co-editors of the recently started Dogma Fanzine, a publication of high production quality dedicated to the subject of Albion fan culture, celebrating all the quirks of the great city of Brighton & Hove and looking at football culture in general. It’s great and they were good value, talking us through their Albion stories and the genesis of the fanzine. We then had the pleasure of a chat with Stateside ex-pat and friend of the show Jon Bradshaw aka The Brighton Bard, who was over to visit family and take in the game (bet he wished he hadn’t done the latter!!!), before embarking on an over optimistic look ahead to the Burnley match which of course turned out even more disastrously than usual games against them down in dear ole Brighty. Finally there was the agonising dissection of what went wrong! Hey ho! Stand or fall!   UTA! Our friends in the north, Alastair and Nick, provide their views from Old Trafford as Albion were robbed of the best chance of a deserved result due to VAR’s re-writing of reality to ManUre’s benefit, pressuring ref Peter Bankes into sending off Lewis Dunk. So it’s a case of same sh*t, different day for the good guys! Russ then popped on to have a mega rant! Stand or fall!   UTA! Down with conscious bias! Down with unconscious bias!
