National Council of Disability, National  Council on Independent Living In a Month of Civil Right Remembrances & leading into April 2024, I wanted to include Disability Rights. A Movement over 50 years ago supported by the  Civil Rights & Black Panther Movements. The advances in Disability Legislation/ ADA was influnced by many people, including Black National Leaders who's names have been virtually forgotten in history. So lets explore them!Theo W. Braddy has advocated on behalf of people with disabilities for over 40 years. At the age of 15, he became a person with a disability due to a high school football accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. In 1988, Braddy was hired as CEO of the Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania, where he served for over 30 years. As CEO, Braddy created an independent living center that became a strong and growing voice for people with disabilities, and started the Living Well with a Disability Initiative. H e currently serves as Executive Director of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL). He has taught at Temple University and Millersville University as an Adjunct Professor. Two different Governors have appointed Braddy as a Commissioner for the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and to serve on the Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council. In 2021, Governor Wolf appointed him to serve on the State Board of Vocational Rehabilitation. In 2022, Braddy was selected by Senator Robert Casey, Jr., as one of four Black leaders in Pennsylvania who has demonstrated power and persistency in overcoming challenges and creating meaningful change in the State, and his contribution was acknowledged on the Senate Floor at a Congressional Hearing. Olympic Gold MedalistThe world of sports I find fascinating to watch! Years of discipline, conditioning, travel, competitions, etc. all go into building a winning athlete & team. Their stories behind the World Championships, Team M.V.P.'s & Gold are even more so. Can an orphan from an abusive childhood, shuffled from foster home to home, even living on the streets, low self-esteem go on to be a winner in life? It starts with the stories about you have in your mind. You have to see it, speak it, mentor with & surround yourself & your environment to condition YOU for victory! What an eye opener to hear about life after the games from one of my friends  Olympic Gold Medalist Dana Hee. She is grateful to God for her victories. Dana may be a familiar face, not only from winning the "Gold" bunot only from winning the "Gold" but from television & movies like Mortal Combat, Charlie's Angels, Lethal Weapon & many more.  Dana Lynn Hee is an Olympic Gold Medalist and is currently a Hollywood film and television actress, as well as one of an award winning stuntwomen in the entertainment industry. . She has also doubled for Hollywood's top actresses': Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Gwynneth Paltrow, Renee Russo, and Jennifer Garner. She also a noted writer, lecturer and television color commentator, and has an extensive background as a speaker to Fortune 500 companies. It's an understatement to say that Dana's childhood was hard. The child of divorced, alcoholic parents, she endured abuse, abandonment, and despair. The years of being passed back and forth between an orphanage, suicidal family members, halfway houses, a commune, government shelter, and finally a foster home, took their tole. Dana grew up to be a young woman with little self-esteem or self-confidence, and a huge fear of failure. To her, nothing seemed possible. It was as if the two words, 'I can't' were programmed into her mind, and she struggled to escape a lifelong habit of running from her fears. Dana looked within herself for strength and determined to make a change. Armed with an ounce of courage, and a glimpse of hope, she set out to make a dream of hers come true. Through the agonizing, against-the-odds process of this struggle, she made the transformation from a shy, under-achieving, below-average young woman to an Olympic Gold Medalist with a new sense of self-esteem, and, finally, some hope for the future. Her story of how this happened - and the lessons you can take from it - are enough to inspire the most discouraged soul. But Dana didn't stop there. She started accepting speaking engagements, then graduated to keynote speeches. She shifted from martial arts, to modeling, and then acting, before setting her sights on becoming a top Hollywood stuntwoman in the movie industry. If this sounds easy, it wasn't. To this day, Dana battles self-doubts whose roots extend back to her youth. But she never quits. She competes successfully in the world's most challenging industries.Dana's autobiography, One Step with Courage: The Story of My Life From Olympic Gold Medalist to Hollywood Stuntwoman, was released in May 2020. Taekwondo Life Magazine featured her story and book release in March, 2021, as part of its International Women's Day Celebration ~ DanaHee.com© 2024 All Rights Reserved© 2024 BuildingAbundantSuccess!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Radio @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Many lives would change in this fight. Some lives both Black & White lost. The March from Selma to Montgomery was inspired by the death of Jimmie Lee Jackson was a civil rights activist in Marion, Alabama, and a deacon in the Baptist church. On February 18, 1965, while participating in a peaceful voting rights march in his city, he was beaten by troopers and shot by Alabama State Trooper John Bonard Fowler Jackson was unarmed and died eight days later in the hospital. His death was part of the inspiration for the Selma to Montgomery marches in March 1965, a major events in the American Civil Rights Movement that helped gain Congressional passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Jackson, active in the fight for equal rights, had tried multiple times to register to vote in Alabama and was denied each time. When Jimmie Lee Jackson saw his frail 80-year-old grandfather rudely turned away from the registrar’s office in 1962 after attempting to register to vote in Marion, Ala. He knew he had to join the civil rights movement. On Feb. 18, 1965, he was among more than 200 people participating in a night march in Marion. Before they had walked a block, they were confronted by state troopers and the police chief, who ordered them to disperse.Jackson and his mother huddled for safety in a café. When Jackson’s grandfather entered the café bloodied and beaten, the young man tried to take him to a hospital. But they were quickly shoved back by a crowd of club-swinging troopers and terrified marchers. Another trooper pulled his pistol and shot Jackson in the stomach. It was two hours before Jackson arrived at the hospital in Selma. He died eight days later. At one of two services for Jackson, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a crowd of 2,000: “Jimmie Lee Jackson’s death says to us that we must work passionately and unrelentingly to make the American dream a reality. The Godfather I & II , Seabiscuit,  Any Given Sunday Rush Hour 2Gianni's impactful book called : Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies & The Mob! I read it cover to cover because it was intense & fascinating.Actor Gianni Russo has led an intriguing life. The Movie The Godfather was young Gianni's debut as an actor. The Godfather is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made, as well as a landmark of the gangster genre. It was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 1990, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and is ranked the second-greatest film in American cinema (behind Citizen Kane) by the American Film Institute.Gianni Russo was a Mid- Twenties handsome  mobster with no acting experience when he walked onto the set of The Godfather and entered Hollywood history. He played Carlo Rizzi, the husband of Connie Corleone, who set her brother Sonny—played by James Caan—up for a hit. Russo didn't have to act—he knew the mob inside and out: from his childhood in Little Italy, where Mafia legend Frank Costello took him under his wing.Along the way, Russo befriended Frank Sinatra, who became his son's godfather, and Marlon Brando, who mentored his career as an actor after trying to get Francis Ford Coppola to fire him from The Godfather. Russo had passionate affairs with Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minelli, and scores of other celebrities. He went on to become a producer and starred in The Godfather: Parts I and II, Seabiscuit, Any Given Sunday and Rush Hour 2, among many other films.Hollywood Godfather is a no-holds-barred account of a life filled with violence, glamour, sex—and fun.Gianni Russo Wines launched nationally in 2009. And he has an expanded product line coming out this year.Born in Manhattan and raised in Little Italy and Staten Island, Russo overcame polio as a child to start his first “business” at the tender age of twelve, selling pens and erasers on the street corners. At eighteen Russo made his first trip to Miami, where he began to dabble in show-business, working in nightclubs and hotspots before deciding to pursue acting and move to Hollywood. His Book: Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies & the Mob is an eye-opening read. All Rights Reserved © 2024© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Rock & Roll Hall of FameA Tribute to My Guest This Week ~ Broadcast Radio Icon Jerry Blavat. He began his career as a 13 year old on the TV show Bandstand.Jerry is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame & After over 50 years in broadcasting, STILL Rock Out Weekly on WVLT, online & at LIVE shows! In 1960, he started his own radio talk show on WCAM (AM), in Camden, New Jersey. (He won the show in a crap game). On a snowy night in mid January, pulling out a stack of records, he began entertaining listeners throughout the night, and the legend of "The Geator" was born. In the mid-sixties, reports had his audience at a half million teenagers per month. Much of Jerry's broadcasts in the early days were done on reel to reel tape. Recording the program in his garage studio, the tapes played while Blavat made personal appearances. In the mid-sixties, Jerry's broadcasts were also added for a time to the program schedule of WHAT. On that station, Blavat stated that he only made $18 a week ($1.50 per hour). Most of his audience didn't buy it, but it was true. The real money was at the hops, not on the air. However, Blavat knew he needed the airwaves to promote the appearances. In 1965, he produced and hosted his own TV show "The Discophonic Scene" on CBS' Philadelphia outlet WCAU-TV. From 1967-70, the show aired on WFIL-TV, Channel Six and was syndicated through Triangle Publications coast-to-coast in 40 markets. When the British Invasion came along, Jerry never became part of it. He didn't like format radio, never participated in it and has always been his own man. In 1966, Jerry said: "It had been hell during the Beatles reign, when there had been much pressure to get on the bandwagon. But I sensed that it just didn't have enough soul for my kids... So I finally gave in and played a few, and I got bombarded by phone calls saying 'Geator, what you doing, man?'" In April of 1972 he became one of the first on-air personalities on WCAU-FM, an oldies station. In 1987, Blavat moved to "Philly Gold Radio," WPGR. It became "Geator Gold Radio" in April of 1992 when Blavat purchased the station. Until this day, Jerry is seen on many local and national TV shows. He has been with PBS on their Doo Wop specials working with the show's producer, T. J. Lubinsky. When the shows aired locally over WHYY-TV, Jerry Blavat was the area's host. Throughout his career, Jerry has appeared on "The Tonight Show," "The Mike Douglas Show," "The Joey Bishop Show," "The Mod Squad," and "The Monkees." Jerry Blavat has appeared in feature films including "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Baby, It's You," and "Cookie." After WPGR, the Geator then built studios in Center City. He currently broadcasts his Cruisin' 92.1, WVLT. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's "Hall of Fame". He still owns his own nightclub called Memories in Margate, NJ He works at various clubs most nights & has a show yearly at the Kimmel Center. While many refer to James Brown as "the hardest working man in show business," the title should belong to Jerry Blavat, who said many years ago: "I may not be the best jock in the world, but I've got my own built-in excitement meter.© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!2024 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

On the advice of Dick Clark, whose local show, American Bandstand, had just gone national, the title and lyrics were changed to “At The Hop." Danny and the Juniors, recorded it, and by Christmas of 1957, it had reached the top of the pop and R&B charts worldwide. “At The Hop” remained #1 for an astounding 7 weeks, the first record ever to reach that success, and it has remained a rock and roll classic to this day. Following “At The Hop," John produced and co-wrote with Dave such mega-hits as “The Fly” (Chubby Checker)“You Don’t Own Me” (Lesley Gore) among other smash hits. He also produced for Danny and The Juniors, “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay." He also discovered one of the most prolific duos of all time, Daryl Hall and John Oates. With them he produced two albums. John moved to L.A. in the ‘70s, where he found success writing and producing for movies and television. He produced the soundtrack for the James Caan/Marsha Mason movie, “Cinderella Liberty," and also produced the title song for the Cliff Robertson movie “Ace Eli and Roger of the Sky.” In the mid ‘70s, he was music supervisor for the hugely successful “Sid and Marty Kroft Comedy Hour." This was in conjunction with an ABC Comedy Hour and network special which launched the new ABC season Madara/White songs have reached millions of people through radio, films and television. Worldwide sales of their songs and productions have reached over 2 hundred million records. Their songs have appeared on some of the biggest grossing soundtrack albums of all time, including “American Graffiti” and “Woodstock” (At The Hop), “Grease” (Rock and Roll is Here to Stay), “Hairspray” (The Fly and You Don’t Own Me), “Mr. Holland’s Opus” (1-2-3), and “Dirty Dancing” and “The First Wives Club” (You Don’t Own Me). It was the 1996 hit film, “The First Wives Club," that paid the contemporary power of their talent the ultimate compliment by not only featuring “You Don’t Own Me” but by making it the theme of the movie. John has continued to write and produce music, working with young, up-and-coming artists. At The Hop” was voted by the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the top 100 songs of the century. The soundtrack album, “Grease," was voted one of the top albums of the century. “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay” is featured on that album. John recently finished producing an album with Tony Danza, following a hugely successful radio hit single that he also produced, “The House I Live In.” He is also working on a feature film, “At The Hop.” In 2016, his song with the late singer ,songwriter Dave White "You Don't Own Me" was made a #1 Hit all over again  19 year old Australian singer " Grace" and features G-EAZY. It was Produced by Quincy Jones.~ thatphillysound.com© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!2024 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

GRAMMY® winner Club Nouveau, Timex Social ClubGrammy Award winning singer and music label executive, Jay King, was elected CEO/President of the California Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) in June of 2019.GRAMMY® Award winning Jay King/Club Nouveau's music & samples have been featured in many Soundtracks including the #1 Hit Movie "US" by Director Jordan Peele! This week, I look at how a brand can stay relevant decade after decade. As a veteran mogul Jay King brings as much humility to the field as he does what has been called his genius. With three decades of continuous achievements in music, management, film/TV/radio, consulting and publishing; King has made an indelible impression. He claims Northern California in general as his hometown due to a nomadic youth spent between many of the Bay Area’s cities; as well as Alaska for birthing his career. There was a deep musical undercurrent added to his early years by a clan which boasted a number of ministers, extending from his great-grandfather through a number of cousins, who all played instruments as well. His great uncle, Saunders King, a respected jazz/blues guitarist, offered the West Coast the first family hit in the 1940’s—‘The S.K. Blues’—adding to the musical backdrop of King’s childhood. In 1986, King starting the independent record label JAY Records to release the Timex Social Club hit ‘Rumors’ and ushered in the biggest selling single of 1986 (3.5 million copies) and becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Charts. With a Top 10 single on the Billboard Pop charts for over 56 weeks, King watched his life change as his music became an unprecedented hit. What he’d produced was history-making, as nobody had before taken an R&B song from an indie label to such heights. Although having independently produced, pressed and marketed his own music King was without the money to compete at radio plays and had to be creative with promoting. “There were challenges. You couldn’t reach out to stores, and social media didn’t exist then so you couldn’t let people know with a click of a button that you had something out. You had to get out and hustle. People were making fun of me and laughing because I was out hustling records.” Bypassing traditional methods, King utilized Macola Records because of its position as an indie manufacturer with no association to a major label.Such moves from a 24 year old entrepreneur made the year 1986 even more memorable, as he quickly followed up with a label/production deal with Warner Brother Records and his King Jay Records label, subsequently releasing the first Club Nouveau single ‘Jealousy’ and the album, ‘Life, Love & Pain’. After ‘Jealousy’ went to #8 on the Billboard R&B charts in September of 1986, followed by ‘Situation #9’ (#4 Billboard R&B charts), 1987 came in with an even bigger bang when ‘Lean On Me’ was released in February and became #1 Billboard Pop/#2 Billboard R&B platinum single, winning a Grammy for R&B Song of The Year.Club Nouveau's music is in heavy demand commercially in movies and is sampled in many of today's artists hit makers like Ashanti, Chris Brown and many more. The group is STILL on the scene, performing hundreds of LIVE concert a year & recording NEW music!© 2024 All Rights Reserved© 2024  Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud
