Between November and December, 2008, Grand Valley's Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies held two conferences -- one in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and one in Washington, D.C. -- exploring the legacy and lessons of the George W. Bush presidency.

The conference included keynote addresses by Rufus Fears (University of Oklahoma), John Burke (University of Vermont), Stephen J.
