Starting, scaling, and breaking through plateaus in your private practice isn't always a straight line. But it's TOTALLY possible! Maybe you've hit an income ceiling and feel "stuck." Regardless of where you are right now, I've been there, and I GET it.One of the most important lessons I've learned along the way? So many therapists are undercharging and overworking. I see this happen WAY too often with the individuals in our field. But it's not because you're "bad with money" or "not cut out for private practice." Nope - it's the MYTHS you've been told that are keeping you stuck! These myths sound noble on the surface, but in reality? They're pushing you straight toward exhaustion, burnout, and frustration. In today's episode, I'm diving into the myths that keep you undercharging and overworking as a therapist. In this episode, I cover: Why the “underpaid & overworked” cycle matters + stats to prove itThe myth of “affordable care” + why it keeps you stuckThe truth about accessibility (and why it’s not all on you)Creative ways to be affordable or accessible if you WANT toThe myth that you need more training or certifications to raise ratesThe fear of losing clients when you change your schedule or increase ratesConnect with Kelly:Follow on Instagram @businessoftherapy and @sitwithkelly Check out the Business of Therapy websiteMake sure to hit follow/subscribe so you never miss an episode!Resources & Links:This episode is sponsored by Alma, the financially rewarding way to go in-networkI recommend setting up an intro call scheduler within Jane - use code: KELLY2MONTH for a 2-month grace periodPrivate Practice Academy Bundle (PPA) Reels Membership Business Coaching Waitlist Free trainingCaption GuideMentioned in this episode:FREE Training: How to Market & Grow Your Private Practice on Instagram

Let's be real - posting on Instagram consistently is a LOT. It's basically an (additional) full-time job! As a therapist, you're already seeing a full caseload. You're handling documentation, coordinating care, and still trying to be a human outside of work. Then you remember it's been five days since your last post. UGH.It's no freaking wonder social media feels so overwhelming! Here's the thing, though: I want you to know how marketing actually works for therapists. The idea that you just need more motivation or confidence to be consistent is a complete LIE!In today's episode, I'm diving into why social media feels so overwhelming right now.In this episode, I cover: The real time commitment it takes to be consistent on InstagramStep-by-step breakdown of what goes into creating a reelCommon Instagram myths therapists need to stop believingWhy showing up is a skill & not something you’re just “naturally” good atHow the Reels Membership gives you a system for sustainable consistencyConnect with Kelly:Follow on Instagram @businessoftherapy and @sitwithkelly Check out the Business of Therapy websiteMake sure to hit follow/subscribe so you never miss an episode!Resources & Links:This episode is sponsored by Alma, the financially rewarding way to go in-networkI recommend setting up an intro call scheduler within Jane - use code: KELLY2MONTH for a 2-month grace periodPrivate Practice Academy Bundle (PPA) Reels Membership Business Coaching Waitlist Free trainingCaption GuideMentioned in this episode:FREE Training: How to Market & Grow Your Private Practice on Instagram
Okay, it's time to call it out: the 200-view jail is REAL. You *finally* post that Instagram reel you overthought for way too long…and it gets 243 views. Again. Here's the truth, though: getting low views doesn't automatically mean your content is bad.In fact, most creators (yes, even the ones you look up to) only average 8-10% of their follower count in views. If you've got 1,000 followers, 80-100 views per reel is actually NORMAL!But if your goal is growth and client conversion, there are some key things that might be holding you back. In today's episode, I'm sharing why your reels aren't working and how to fix them.In this episode, I cover: What’s *actually* normal when it comes to reel viewsCommon reasons you’re stuck in 200-view jailHow to break out and start seeing real results Connect with Kelly:Follow on Instagram @businessoftherapy and @sitwithkelly Check out the Business of Therapy websiteMake sure to hit follow/subscribe so you never miss an episode!Resources & Links:Check out Jordan’s ReelCheck out Sol’s ReelMy reel from July 2024This episode is sponsored by Alma, the financially rewarding way to go in-networkI recommend setting up an intro call scheduler within Jane - use code: KELLY2MONTH for a 2-month grace periodPrivate Practice Academy Bundle (PPA) Reels Membership Business Coaching Waitlist Free trainingCaption GuideMentioned in this episode:FREE Training: How to Market & Grow Your Private Practice on Instagram

The truth is, you're probably not comparing apples to apples. You're looking at someone else's "after" on Instagram while you're still in your "during!"In today's episode, I'm talking about the *REAL* reason she's getting results and you're not. I want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a part of my private practice journey that doesn’t always get the spotlight. It’s not super sexy or exciting, but… it was pivotal! When I first launched my private practice, I was living in New York City with a full-time job, bills to pay, and zero wiggle room. Insurance was my lifeline! Getting paneled with insurance allowed me to quickly fill my caseload. I was able to replace enough income to confidently quit my nonprofit management job. I got paneled through Alma, which operates a bit like a group practice. I’m excited to welcome Abby Thomason to the podcast today!Abby is an early childhood play therapist and owner of her private practice, Early Emotions. She works with parents virtually and travels to schools and homes to provide play therapy to kids in the early years. She stepped away from her career to be a stay-at-home mom, and fully focus on her family. But…she felt a pull to start her Instagram page during maternity leave, and share knowledge that would support her community. That page unexpectedly blossomed into a thriving business! Through lots of mindset work, strategy, and heart, Abby has built a private practice on HER own terms. In today’s episode, Abby and I chat about what it was like doubling her income, while spending more time with her kids.In this episode, we cover: How Abby helps parents take more of an active role in their kids’ play therapyAbby’s journey from social worker & play therapist to business ownerWhy Abby’s private practice growth was intentionally a “slower” processShifting your focus from chasing likes & views to getting actual clientsWhat inspired Abby to join PPA in April 2024Why Abby chose to offer mobile play therapyBoundaries Abby has put in place with her work scheduleHow Abby’s rates have shifted over timeHow Abby’s current work schedule still honors her role as momCreating a full & thriving career without sacrificing your family lifeConnect with Abby:Follow on InstagramCheck out her websiteConnect with Kelly:Follow on Instagram @businessoftherapy and @sitwithkelly Check out the Business of Therapy websiteMake sure to hit follow/subscribe so you never miss an episode!Resources & Links:This episode is sponsored by Alma, the financially rewarding way to go in-networkI recommend setting up an intro call scheduler within Jane - use code: KELLY2MONTH for a 2-month grace periodPrivate Practice Academy Bundle (PPA) Reels Membership a...
