One of the goals of our podcast is to collect the amazing stories of the people who make up our community. This week's interview is with one of the most unique people in Lloydminster, Mr. Hai Ma. Joined by his daughter Eliza van Assem, Hai sits down and shares his journey with Ryan.
Starting out in his home in Vietnam, Hai relates how, on April 30th of 1975, the government took over his family business, and put him in jail. From there he escaped from jail, spent time drifting at sea, managed to survive both in the jungle and on a remote island, ended up in Indonesia where a Canadian immigration officer helped sponsor him, and eventually Hai ended up in Lloydminster.
This story has so many twists and turns, and is drenched in both fantastic and horrible luck - you have to listen to this one!
