In this podcast I talk to Harvard-trained nutritional psychiatrist Dr. Georgia Ede about how certain diets can affect our mental wellbeing, what foods help the brain function best, and what foods to avoid if we want to heal and improve our mental and physical health. Dr. Ede, in both her personal life and practice, has found that making certain lifestyle modifications can help treat major mental health issues such as ADHD, depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Through her research, she has found that nutrition can help heal and restore brain function, empowering people to take back control over their mental state and their lives, without the stigma and negative side-effects so common to pharmacological treatments for mental distress. Addiction is something many of us have experienced, whether we ourselves have battled with addiction, guilt and shame, or we know a loved one, friend or family member who is dealing with addiction. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 19.7 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2017 alone! When it comes to addiction, whether we are talking about addiction to drugs, alcohol, food, sex and so on, people are often faced with conflicting messages: they are damaged goods with little or no hope of overcoming their addiction, or it is all their fault and they are just “bad apples”. Yet reality is far more complicated, and, thankfully, far more hopeful: it is possible to take responsibility for our lives while recognizing and dealing with the negative consequences addiction. In this week’s podcast I speak about addiction and how it is possible to overcome it with Adi Jaffe, Ph.D. who is a nationally recognized expert on mental health, addiction, relationships and shame. We discuss his unconventional but effective method, how he struggled with addiction (which ended up with him in prison!), how to help someone who is struggling with addiction, and why abstinence is ineffective in addiction recovery. By now, I am sure you have heard about the dangers of artificial blue light. Almost every day there is a new article talking about how you shouldn’t sleep near your smart phone, or how you should avoid spending more than several hours in a windowless, artificial-lit room, or how you need to be careful how much time you spend in front of a computer screen. Is there any truth to all these warnings? Is artificial blue light really that bad for us? And what is it exactly? Is there anything we do about artificial blue light exposure in today’s 24-hour, technology-centred world? In this episode I interview Andy, the founder of BLUBlox, to discuss what blue light is, how it affects our mental health, and what we can do to protect ourselves.   For more information on Andy and BLUBlox visit: https://www.blublox.com. I'm pretty sure I know I have TBI and CPE. My doctors can't find anything. I played football all thru college. I lost count of how many concussions and accidents I had growing up and at work. I'm 55 and unemployed with severe migraines and dizziness.

Hello. Thankyou for such an informative podcast. I would like to know if Celiac Disease is something that could be reversed using any or all of the methods discussed?

Great show! I do believe swearing has a value in releasing tension for people under stress. But for me, finding the balance between God‘s word and what feels good can sometimes feel like they conflict. God says, let no unwholesome words come out of our mouth..... there are other scriptures also that set a standard for us. I believe another conflict is, where do we draw the line for age acceptable wearing? It is OK for an adult but is it OK for a seven-year-old to use language at church, at school, at home? There will be a line drawn somewhere for each of us concerning what is Age acceptable. It still seems to boil down to what does the word say about it and how do we apply His truths to our lives. Thank you for a great show!

Thank you both for this podcast! It is great to hear an honest and at the same time helpful testimony of Dominique, that puts in perspective the emotions most of us go through our everyday life. I love the tips on self care mind techniques that help us reconstruct our mindset. However, I was wondering if you have a podcast that explores on a deeper level the issue of Loneliness?

This whole keto thing is confusing me as far as healing the brain is concerned. I believe it is a good transition from a bad fat diet but is it really going to heal? If you consider heavy metal toxicity ... it oxidizes in fat ... good fat and bad fat. That concerns me from a detox point of view (I’m focused on autism). I’m glad he says there is a time limit to following this diet. Personally I think healing the gut is more than keto.

I rather take supplements from a reputable company, than toxic meds from big pharma. Thank you very much. Been taking supplements a while now and my blood work is quite fine.

Friendship Benches = Yes. Destigmatize mental health care and reduce dependence on psychotropic drugs = Yes Yes Yes! Limit access to firearms for otherwise law abiding citizens = NO! NO! NO! NO! Dr Leaf I agreed with everything you said until the point where you threaten to take my guns.

I desperately need to build my memory, these tools presented help in that process, remember you can slow down her speech which I sometimes need to do

1 Min 24 second is too long for her adverts at the beginning. 15 seconds is all other podcasts do which encourages me to listen. I love the content but don't like the exceptionally long intros.

out of the 4 personality types, I'm a classic Melancholy so I thought I was overthinking and overanalyzing due to my personality. I cant wait to see if I can make Dr. Leaf's advice control this better. I'm constantly having to apologize for text messages that I send after the fact and I think about what just took place or was said.
