Patrick K. Porter, PhD. dedicated his life to studying neuropsychology. For years it was believed that we have a set number of brain cells, that our intelligence quotient is fixed, and that our brains do not change. Dr. Porter’s clinical experience and research told a different story, revealing that the human brain is, in fact, plastic, making it capable of change, improvement, and expansion. Dr. Porter’s exploration sparked incredible transformation for thousands of people. In 2014, with the emerging Apple and Android mobile devices, he saw the opportunity to impact millions by leveraging these new mobile app platforms by founding the brain fitness company – BrainTap®. Today I am honored to have a conversation with Dr. Porter to discuss what BrainTap is and how its brain fitness benefits extend far beyond sleep and stress reduction to help our brains function at peak performance and our bodies to reset to its natural rhythm. I've been using BrainTap personally and with my clients for over 5 years and have seen the benefits first hand. My sleep improved, my memory, focus and concentration have all been enhanced using BrainTap daily SHOW OFFER If you would like to experience the benefits of BrainTap for yourself Dr. Porter is extending Ryyst & Dwell listeners a 14 day free trial to the BrainTap app. You will definitely want to take advantage of this exclusive offer for Ryyst & Dwell listeners. In this podcast episode, we explore the experience of receiving an ADHD diagnosis as an adult and the challenges and opportunities that come with it. Our guest, Erica Hague, was diagnosed with ADHD in her 50s, she shares their journey of self-discovery and acceptance, from recognizing the symptoms and seeking professional help to finding a supportive community and developing coping strategies. We also discuss the stigma and misconceptions surrounding ADHD, the impact of late diagnosis on mental health and relationships, and the benefits of reframing ADHD as a neurodivergent trait rather than a disorder. Finally, we offer tips and resources for anyone who suspects they may have ADHD or knows someone who does, and emphasize the importance of seeking professional guidance and understanding oneself holistically. www.ryystdwell.com Join Ryyst & Dwell, our private community for women with ADHD that are ready to embrace rest and be part of a supportive community that will help you have all the tools you need to make rest a lifestyle. I struggled for decades with choosing to deeply care for me. I find it extremely easy to identify the needs of others and find deep fulfillment in helping. But as for me, I never felt comfortable making myself a priority. After several panic attacks that led to ER visits and a hospitalization I could no longer ignore who needed my attention, me. I’ve worked with over 300 women who struggled to commit to themselves. I helped them learn to forgive themselves for neglecting who they were for the sake of everything and everyone else. Women from all walks of life learned to take hold of the freedom that comes with loving yourself enough to embrace and nurture the wonderful women they were uniquely designed to be. No striving, just being.I blend support with neuroscience and state of the art technology to truly help my clients meet goals they didn’t realize they had until they slowed down, reflected on their needs and wants and got real about the commitment it takes to simply become. I’d love to help you do the same. Support the show
Meditative practices are vast and many and we often are practicing meditation without being aware that's what we're doing. I saw a video on Instagram that so beautifully demonstrated this title "Go Lay Down". It was sung by @who_she_naje. In each new video someone joined in split screen and added their harmony to her original video and it was peaceful, familiar and comforting, particularly to those of us in the African American community that are familiar with "long verse" being sung in the Black Church. Little did we know "long verse" was actually a Christian meditative practice. The harmony, vibration, spiritual connotation....similiar to chanting that is practices by many monks. The 5000 year old practice of Christian meditation is beautiful, calming and a wonderful spiritual practice that keeps you present, realigns your mind, body, soul and spirit and draws you closer to the Lord as its sole purpose is being present.....the Lord sets the intention. Wisdom is knowledge that is applied to your daily life, If 2020 taught us anything it’s that wisdom is not a given. There is a ton of information floating around but if it’s not based in truth it reaps unproductive and destructive fruit. How do you know what wisdom is......interestingly enough wisdom can’t be taught, wisdom is gained through experience grounded in applied acknowledge. The question is where are you gaining knowledge from? This year we will focus our attention on wisdom and we’ll ground our knowledge and perspective in the biblical foundation of Proverbs 13 and Proverbs 15. Join me as we simply rest in words and principles that allow us to apply their truth to our lives to live in wisdom. I’m looking forward to taking this journey with you. Support the show

Do the needful thing and not feeling any kind of way about it. Doing the needful thing is a sign of strength and empowers you to move through panic instead of being swallowed up by it. Tanya shares her story of walking through a panic attack and doing what she needed to do to get to where she wanted to go. She did it, you can too! Support the show
Everyday is a journey into ourselves. How we respond to life, how we think we would respond and then the reality that often when we're confronted with something we respond the exact opposite of what we thought we would. This daily journey with myself requires self examination, a lot of self examination and quite honestly, sometimes what I learn from the examination sucks! Support the show
