Season 4 Episode 13: Fredrick Mallay; Defensive Back for URI Football

Fredrick Mallay is a Mt. Pleasant Rhode Island native who has taken football in the smallest state in the country by storm ever since his freshman year of high school.Mallay holds the Rhode Island high school record for most yards rushed in a single game recording 521 yards on the ground versus Lincoln High School his senior year.However, ever since he was twelve years old, Mallay knew his future was in sports. Growing up in a single parent household, he wanted to give more to his mother and family with a career in football.Deciding to stay home and attend the University of Rhode Island was a no brainer for Mallay. Adam Lewis is a recent graduate of Syracuse University and undoubtedly made the most out of the opportunities given to him at a young age.Growing up a huge sports fan, Adam knew early on he wanted to be someone who was created these ‘once in a lifetime’ moments he would watch on TV. For instance, growing up a New England sports fan, Adam was exposed to multiple championships throughout all the major sports. He wanted to be the person capturing and creating these types of moments.During his tenure at Syracuse, he co-hosted and produced the Cole Swider show with Indiana Pacers guard Cole Swider and former Cuse guard Paddy Casey. Nick Conte is a North Providence, Rhode Island native and was considered one of the best pitchers in the state towards the end of his high school career.Conte was a staple to Rhode Island pitchers. So much so that he considered entering the MLB draft after graduating in 2020. However, COVID-19 had other plans.With the Coronavirus taking over the world, Conte decided to take his talents to the college level. Kevin Ryans is a Queens, New York native who developed a passion for sportscasting entering elementary school. Being in the New York area, his favorite teams to watch were the New York Knicks, and more specifically, the New York Yankees.A Syracuse alum from the class of 2017, the job hunt was difficult for a young Kevin Ryans, as it is for all college graduates entering the sports industry. Luckily, Ryans got his foot in the door with SNY as a Production Assistant post graduation. After only spending about 8 months there, he received an opportunity to start his on air career in Joplin, Missouri as a Sports Reporter and Anchor at KSN/KODE.Ever since then, he has stayed in Missouri to continue his sports career. He enters his 35th season of calling the action for the HEAT and is among the longest tenured broadcasters in the NBA.Reid has broadcast 2,472 regular season HEAT games during the franchise’s first 34 seasons, having joined the organization just prior to the team’s inaugural season in 1988-89. This season is his 46th consecutive year broadcasting basketball and his 32nd doing the play-by-play for the HEAT. Three times during his career (2017, 2018 and 2020) Reid has been named the Florida Sportscaster of the Year in voting done by his peers in the National Sports Media Association.
