This episode of Camp Nowhere takes on two parts. Part 1 details how we came to book a one month trip to Japan less than a month out from leaving. All the twists, turns and pivots that lead us to Japan. Part 2 covers my first impressions of Japan. Without too many spoilers, Japan has spoken to my soul in a way that no other place has. I discuss the impact of a culture with a visible history, Japan’s dedication to craft and quality in everything they do, as well as the beauty of not being able to communicate. Here are the things mentioned in the episode:~ Applied Theory - New Zealand Series(Use code: BOUNDFORNOWHERE for a free 30 day trial)~ Australia Mini Series - Part I~ Australia Mini Series - Part II~ Allie Rockwell’s Booked It On Points Travel Newsletter~ Allie Rockwell’s Camp Nowhere Podcast~ Tokyo National Museum~ Clay Votive Figures from the Early Inhabitants of Japan~ Japanese Burial Mounds~ 5th Generation Soy Sauce Maker~ Nara Takoyaki Restaurant (Best in Japan IMO)~ BB Geek - Star Wars Restaurant, HiroshimaSay hello on the Camp Nowhere website, or connect with us on Instagram! To enjoy Bound For Nowhere’s work you can head to their website, follow them on Instagram or watch their films on YouTube! If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave a review! Alaska has inadvertently become a place that holds a lot of meaning for me and my family. We all found our way there at different times and for completely different reasons. Over the last three years my parents, brother and sister-in-law have built, by hand, an off grid cabin in the remote woods of central Alaska. Though Owen and I have been to Alaska many times since then, we have yet to see this cabin in person. We made the journey north to see the cabin for the first time, connect with my parents & help them prepare the cabin for winter. If we were lucky, we also hoped to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.Things mentioned in the episode:~ Lost & Found Series (Alaska)~ Blog Post - Aurora PhotosSay hello on the Camp Nowhere website, or connect with us on Instagram! To enjoy Bound For Nowhere’s work you can head to their website, follow them on Instagram or watch their films on YouTube! If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave a review! In this episode of Camp Nowhere, we’re still on Malcolm Island in BC Canada where we met Troy in our previous episode. This time, I’m telling the story of our time on the island. In this episode of Camp Nowhere, while exploring on Malcolm Island, BC MAK meets Troy Bright, an Orca researcher of 28 years on the island. They discuss how he came to be interested in Killer Whales, how a wrong ferry serendipitously brought him to both Malcolm Island and the sight of his research for nearly three decades. Troy shares the insights of his research and the differences between the resident whales of coastal BC vs the transient whales that pass through the area.If you’d like to support Troy’s work you can contribute to his GoFundMe.
