In this week’s episode I attempt to condense the 4-part conversation on parenting with Papa. It was brilliant to sit with him and learn so much, not just about our family but gaining a better perspective of why he was the kind of father he was.
I certainly wanted more growing up but I have a deeper understanding he simply didn’t know how. Let’s give our parents a little break, talk to them and hopefully some of the scars may heal.
I also briefly touch on the kind of summer I think I’m going to have with my teenager.
I cannot implore you enough to check out Better Parenting Practitioner Britta who I think you’ll all love.

In this final part episode, I posed the question of the impact on our mental health from all of that harsh and corporal discipline.
To be honest, Papa threw me on this one and I still haven’t gotten my head around it. That is because he had a very different take on it and you’ll see from my reaction, I honestly wasn’t expecting that!! I’m uncertain I can wholeheartedly say I can relate to it but I can understand, accept and learn from
his lived experience and point of view.
✔️ looking at the positives of discipline and its impact
Should one hold on to what we may refer to as scars? It’s difficult to contend with when you’re left with scars from some of the discipline but should we hold on to them for life? If we do, should they spur us on, require us o do differently as largely suggested by Papa or hold us back?
Are we overthinking mental health and perhaps aiding a generation of cocky, inhumane and indisciplined children?
These are just some of the questions I’m left with and had me thinking deeply about lived experiences and parenting. In the next season, we will broach it with an up-and-coming Better Parenting Practitioner whom I think you’ll all love.

In this episode Papa and I go into some dreaded stuff:
✔️ the impact of screaming and shouting. Corporal punishment was hurtful and not as helpful as they thought.
✔️ how the short list of professions came about and was furiously protected - back in the day it was doctor, lawyer, engineer and anything else short of these and in this category of professions was a shame to the family. Status and maintaining a family tradition was a strong driver. How has that changed?
Why we should keep today's focus on individual strengths and nurture children to be at their best.

In this episode, I reflect on the last two episodes in conversation with Eyram. The messages and conversations received in the last two weeks around this topic of infertility and IVF have deeply troubled my soul. Women out there are struggling. Don’t do it alone.
I needed that time to reflect, make the ‘altar call’ for other women to share and hope we all find the courage to end the stigma around IVF, keep the faith and hope for that joy in the end.

In this episode, I am joined for the final part of my time with Eyram who shares her lived experience of going through the IVF process. From 22 fertilised eggs to 17, to 4 then 2 viable, her daughter indeed is glory to God. We touch on pain, bedside manners of health professionals and again on the stress and mental agility required to go to the next step of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

In this episode, I am joined by Eyram who shares her lived experience of infertility. In her case, she found after trying for a year without success, she had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). We touch on faith, stigma, moral and financial support from family, and the stress and mental agility required to go to the next step of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).
We conclude that couples do need to have a conversation about the inability to have children prior to marriage and how they intend to manage that instance. It should be a natural part of today's marriage counselling.

In this final episode of the New Years' Resolution of getting more intentional on relationships, I talk about girlfriends. While reflecting on 2021 I realised how deep the little times we shared being intentional were and I want more. I want to deepen my bond with the Spartans in the coming year. Keeping things simple is important and I can't stress how less is more. No need to overthink nor overdo but getting it just right. Enjoy.

Still on the New Years' Resolution of getting more intentional on relationships. In this episode I look at how to get more intentional with my husband and partner in crazy. I believe in nurturing greatness in relationships and marriage. Listening is an art we need to be patient and humble as women to learn to embrace. Gary Chapman's five love languages have been a part of our relationship for years and it is one of those things I feel one shouldn't underestimate if you want to have a great marriage.
I have watched my husband engage with his mother in a very special way that left him with little regrets when she passed and my father with my grandmother in a way that gave him peace and granted him an ally where he found conflict with mom. Both men were intentional with these women and in turn received great love and respect.
Our men may not wear their emotions on their sleeves like we do, but if we watch, we have so much to emulate and more to give.

It's Season 2!! Welcome back to the show! It's New Year's Eve and as usual we have and are taking stock of the year. Often we tend to very much reflect on all the stones that have been thrown at us and feel thankful for the ability to still be standing. What will you do with these stones in the coming year? I talk about about being intentional with them in the bid for greater thankfulness at the end of 2022. Enjoy!
