Some of us can admit today that the only reason we are in church or still in church is because we have encountered God. Although miracles, signs, wonders, and emotions cannot anchor our faith, our God is an experiential God. He is not merely a subject we learn about, but a God we encounter. When we read scripture, it is encounter after encounter of desperate and thirsty people who longed for a touch from the divine. Jesus would often find thirsty people in the midst of the crowd. Jesus would often walk through a crowd, much like we have on Sundays, looking for the one who was ready, hungry, and reaching out for an encounter with Him. This Sunday we made space to do just that. This weekend was not just about hearing a message but about us experiencing the message. Tune into this week’s message called, “Thirsty for an Encounter.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? When we think of the Holy Spirit, there's a lot of images that come to mind. Maybe you think of the gentle whisper in 1 Kings 19 or the dove descending upon Jesus in Matthew 3. But no doubt one of the most powerful and enduring images of the Holy Spirit is that of him coming upon the disciples as a rushing wind and tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost. This moment catalyzed some of the most powerful and revolutionary ministry the world has ever seen. All throughout Acts you see the wonder that was the early church. But often what happens when we read about their extraordinary faith and the miracles they witnessed is that we're actually left feeling a little inadequate. We unpacked this in a message called, “Imposter Syndrome.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? When we wake up each morning there is perhaps the greatest invitation from Jesus on this side of eternity that is offered to us. John 15:4, Jesus says, "If you abide in me, I'll abide in you." Jesus is saying, "If want to meet with me, know I want to meet with you. I'm available." But how do we actually ABIDE? What does that look like practically? This Sunday we unpacked a simple way we can abide with Jesus each morning to get filled with his Spirit to face the day. We would have better days if they were lived abiding with The Spirit.Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? "Holy Spirit Come" is not just of a phrase or sermon title, it's a prayer, a cry of the heart. But sometimes we don't pray this prayer because of three reasons we will unpack on Sunday: We're distracted. We're used to relying on our own power. We don't understand who the Holy Spirit is. The Holy Spirit is depicted in scripture in many different ways, as a dove, a rushing wind, a fire, oil, a cloud, etc. But the Holy Spirit is none of these things. The Holy Spirit is not a "what" but a "who." This is a crucial place to begin so we can start to develop a relationship with the third member of the trinity, the most important person on the earth today, the one who desires deep friendship with us, The Holy Spirit. We kicked off this series this weekend with a message called, “From Ghost to Friend.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? This Sunday is a highlight day. It's not hard to have faith on highlight days. But if we told you every day leading up to now has felt like a highlight day, we would be lying to you. Often in life we have more hardship days than highlight days. We long to see highlight moments with God, but God often makes us wait for them. Waiting on God is not always fun, but anyone in the Bible who followed God also had to learn how to wait on God. It's not just about the wins for God. See we remember how we won. But God remembers how we waited. It's in the "wait" where our faith, our testimony, and our character is forged. This weekend we unpacked how we can wait on God well in a message called, "Waiting is Winning." Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? This week we closeed out our series, This Is The Way, by looking at John 21, which in many ways leads us back to the beginning. John 21 deals with the restoration of Peter. Peter's denial of Jesus has caused a rift to form in their relationship, and this story helps us to find the answer to the ever-important question: how does God handle our failures?Part of what we learn in the story is that there is no failure that the love of God can't overcome, and there is no brokenness that Jesus can't restore. We unpacked this further in a message called, "Back To Where We Started".Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? God loves faith, He promises to move mountains when He sees even a “Mustard seed” of faith in a person. The Bible tells the story of God doing everything He can to move us to a place of faith and trust. There is a whole chapter in Hebrews 11 that highlights the great exploits of faith taken by the main characters in the Bible. And yet, when we look at the lives of men like Abraham (“Father or faith”) Moses, Elijah, Sarah, David… we also see moments of great doubt, indecision and unbelief. In fact, there is not a person of faith that does not know what it means to doubt. To question the existence of God, His power, or His goodness.Moments of doubt can be threatening and disillusioning, and sadly man christians for reasons of fear and pride, will not acknowledge the possibility, or worse treat the questioner with derision. But that is never how God deals with honest doubters. He remembers our frames, and that we are but dust. He meets us in mercy, challenging our doubts, and moving us to faith. This week we took a look at the most famous doubter in history, Thomas, and see how Jesus dealt with his doubts and how he deals with ours. Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? In John 19, Jesus is on the way to the cross. On the way, Jesus has a very interesting and very relatable interchange with a guy named Pontius Pilate. Pilate asks Jesus, "What is truth?" This is a question that our world is wrestling with today perhaps more than ever. Sometimes it is very hard for us to delineate between our desires, our perspectives, our preferences, and THE truth. The reality is, truth is not an ever changing thing based on our life's experiences. Truth is absolute and constant for everyone, everywhere, at all times. Truth is also not just something we believe, it is someone we follow. Jesus is the truth and this weekend we unpacked what happens when our truth collides with his in a message called, “You’re Not The Pilot.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? In John 18, after 5 chapters in the upper room with his disciples, Jesus is now headed toward the Garden of Gethsemane, where the final path to the cross begins. As Jesus gets arrested in the garden, Jesus announces, "I AM HE." When he says this, the army that came to arrest him falls down, as Jesus is truly announcing, "I AM GOD."Jesus was making it very clear who was in control in this moment. No one was making Jesus go to the cross, he went there willingly for us. He was and is always in control. This is so powerful for us to know as we live in the middle of chaos in our world every day. That even when it may seem like darkness and chaos are winning, we get to follow the one who's not worried about a thing. Jesus is the guy, who's always in control. This Sunday we unpacked what this in a messaged called, “I’m Him.”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Have you ever spent time around people who only have moments, days, or weeks to live? Because of what I do for a living, I have. It's always a gift to me. It's fascinating to me what people choose to talk about and not talk about in these moments. People rarely talk about their net worth, their career, or their yacht. Rather they talk about the people they love, their regrets, whether or not they were generous, and if they truly feel like they answered the call of God on their life. It's amazing that in the last moments what truly matters rises to the surface. John 17 pulls back the curtains and gifts us a look into this moment for Jesus. John 17 contains the longest continuous prayer from Jesus in all of the Bible. As he prepares his heart for the cross of Calvary that was upon him, he reveals what is heaviest and biggest on his heart for us. Check out this week’s message called, "BIG on His Heart." Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus?
