Cardinal Walter Kasper on Global Ecumenism - Audio
Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, visited Emory University in March 2010. An eminent scholar of theology and a global leader in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, Kasper has shaped the Roman Catholic Church’s relations with numerous Christian denominations, and has spent particular energy promoting understanding and reconciliation between Jews and Christians. Kasper's prodigious writings on theology, ecumenism, interfaith relations, and issues central to 21st century Christianity are being compiled for publication; it is estimated that the collection will comprise 70 volumes.
Emory's Candler School of Theology joined with the university's Aquinas Center of Theology and The Halle Institute to sponsor Kasper's 5-day visit to campus. This album features highlights from the visit, including a public address titled "The Timeliness of Speaking of God," remarks to students in a theology class at Candler, a student roundtable discussion, and his sermon during a Candler service of worship.
