The Canada-based Brit and one half of automotive superchannel, Throttle House, James Engelsman joins us in the Carfession booth this week to share his loves of pairing music with driving, the drive to a car event and online auctions. We then explore his deepest loathings: the utter randomness of bonnet latch placement, the stabby thing cab drivers seem to do with the accelerator, and the "ensh*tification" of everything. This week's episode is brought to you by Jack and Cam with a fresh batch of loves and hates for you to sink your teeth into. Fresh from his holiday, Jack's now a camper van convert having spent the last week and some 1,200 miles in the Volkswagen California. Cam, meanwhile, has fallen in love with the TWR Supercat and screaming V12 it's housing up front. Jack's noticed that Brits are properly good at passing each other on a narrow country lane, and Cam's finally found something he likes about Vauxhall. Onto the hates, and Cam's fed up with the lack of service stations (well, toilets) outside of the UK's motorway network and both are more than a little cheesed off that they didn't get to visit this year's Monterey Car Week.Want to carfess something: DM us on Instagram @Carfessionspod and be sure to leave a 5 star review if you enjoy listening!
This week, Jack and Cam chat to TopGear mag’s deputy editor, Ollie Kew - a man so filled with outrage that we had to adapt the format especially. Ollie declares his love of vapourware supercars and a certain stretch of A-road, before launching a tirade on an eclectic spread of automotive hatreds ranging from variable steering weight to Instagram “hot takes”. Jack and Cam take to the Carfessions booth this week with a fresh batch of loves and hates to chew on. For the loves, Jack comes in strong with seeing cars from defunct brands on the road, which swiftly turns into a Saab love-in, while Cam admits to creating mini rivalries at traffic lights. Jack then comes back in with a love that, surprisingly, hasn't appeared on the podcast yet: steel wheels. As for the hates, Jack can't see the point of passenger screens (who else needs to know your rpm, anyway?), Cam's fed up with arbitrary tuning stages and being caught out by used cars that aren't all that accurately described. In this week's ep, Jack and Cam are joined in the Carfessions booth by the founder and face of Ireland's #1 EV outlet, NEVO: Derek Reilly. Derek shares his appreciation for the boxy estate cars he grew up in the back of and laments their dwindling numbers, while crossover coupes continue to surge. Next he discusses the wonders of one pedal driving, and reveals the strange secret car game he plays only when alone.Moving onto the hatreds, he expounds his outrage for crappy car keys, EVs with start stop buttons and - worst of all - people who use their phones while driving, before sharing his wonderfully eclectic dream garage. Be sure to leave a five star review and tell a mate if you enjoy the episode!
Jack and Cam man the Carfessions booth this week with a fresh pick of loves and hates to share. For once, there's more love to go around than hates, with Cam's appreciation of a lorry driver's indicator thanks and Jack's admiration of people owning cars for many, many years. Cam then presents a fresh take on the E46 BMW M3 CSL by serving a bunch of back-handed compliments. Then, it's onto the hates. Jack's especially livid about people dishing out unjustified thanks, while Cam finally lifts the lid on his irrational hatred for the Stellantis drive selector. Got something you'd like to Carfess? THE rising star of Formula 1 commentary, Harry Benjamin enters the Carfessions booth this week. He expounds his love of the ritual of meticulously preparing his notes for a race weekend, and for F1 sprint races, before horrifying Jack and Cam with his inexplicable affection for the Nissan Qashqai.Next, he divulges his frustration at excessive F1 practice sessions and gives an insight into the silent, sweaty war for control of the commentary box A/C remote, as well as bemoaning the troubling lack of rear windscreen wipers on many new cars.Fancy sharing a Carfession? This week, Jack and Cam shares their loves and hates from a very busy (and extremely hot) Goodwood Festival of Speed. Of course, there's a lot to love about the goodest of woods, with Jack gushing over Lanzante, Cam getting far too excited about rally cars and the the Disneyland-like aura of seeing old racing drivers behind the wheel of their old cars. Granted, it's hard to think of anything to hate about the Festival of Speed, but Toyota rally ace Elfyn Evans made Cam feel sick, Jack's had enough of people touching priceless cars and someone really needs to think about what's eligible for supercar parking. Just saying. Want to submit your own Carfessions? Send your loves and hates to carfessions.info@gmail.com, or send a DM to @carfessionspod on Instagram.
Alex Goy, presenter on many YouTube channels including XCAR, Carfection and recently Driven+, steps into the Carfessions booth to disclose his burning car loves and deepest hatreds for Jack and Cam to chew on. To kick things off, Alex confesses his love of handmade British sports cars (he does own a purple Morgan Three-Wheeler with a shark face on the front, after all), the Dacia Duster and the unity of the car community. As for his hates, Alex talks of the needless jeopardy in car shows, lock and unlock buttons that keep moving about, before going on an impassioned rant about the Alfa Romeo 4C. Rounding things off, Alex walks us through his dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime.Want to submit your own Carfessions? A very special guest enters the Carfessions booth this week, as Robert Llewellyn, Fully Charged, Scrap Heap Challenge and Red Dwarf fame, brings three loves and three hates for Jack and Cam to tuck into. Robert starts things off simple with his love driving cars in the pouring rain with the heater on (we really do take things for granted), the raw sound a Top Fuel dragster at full pelt, and the satisfaction one gets knowing your car is powered purely on sunshine. And his hates? The frustrating fact that cities have been built around the car, people bringing up tailpipe emissions when comparing EV and ICE cars, and that electric cars have well and truly ruined any satisfaction that comes with driving a combustion car. Robert then wraps up by taking us through his dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime.Want to submit your own Carfessions? This week, Jack and Cam get on their soap boxes to proclaim their loves and hates from the world of cars.Jack takes the first kick (or whatever the football term is) by bringing to light the phenomenon of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 constantly getting bigger, while Cam talks of the peace that comes from finding the German car that fits you best. Jack tops the first half off by going over his love of coachbuilt cars - especially those that are shooting brakes of normal saloons.Cam then attempts to defend the Monaco Grand Prix, before Jack jumps in to say it's a load of rubbish. Then the episode rounds off with Jack immediately backtracking on his love of coachbuilt specials (well, sort of).Want to submit your own Carfessions? Jordan Katsianis, presenter at Auto Express, steps into the Carfessions Booth armed with three loves and three hates for Jack and Cam to sink their teeth into.First up, Jordan talks of his love of the Lexus LC500's switchgear, the delights of diesel car ownership and the pure bliss of a Euro Tunnel Flexi lounge. After that, it's onto the hates, starting with the ubiquitousness of LED light bars, then to everyone's obsession with black trim before ending on the fussiness of current Mercedes designs. To round things off, Jordan talks us through his dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime.Want to submit your own Carfessions? Cam comes back from a work trip to the United States with a suitcase crammed with loves and hates of American motoring for Jack to pick over. It all kicks off with the freedom right on red brings, roads that are appropriately sized for modern cars and Cam's fascination with the USA's colourful licence plates. As you'd expect, he's got some juicy frustrations to bring to the Carfessions booth, like the law that prevents you from crossing the road away from traffic lights, the preposterous size of pickup trucks and the constant fear of being pulled over by the cops. This week, Jack and Cam bring their own motoring loves and hates to the Carfessions booth. The duo kick things off with the weird and wonderful cars you see abroad that aren't available back home, boring cars in interesting colours and number plates that allude to the name of who's driving. As for the hates, the two start with people driving the same sports car as you thinking it's an invitation to race, the BMW XM and jostling for position in an average speed drag race.Want to submit your own Carfessions? Thomas Howarth, aka horsepowerhunters and bigboybenzes, steps into the Carfessions booth with three loves and three hates for Jack and Cam to sink their teeth into. With a huge car collection to go with his huge social media following, Thomas first talks of the joy his cars bring to others, the godly Recaro Pole Position, and picking the right lane at a junction to skip past traffic. Then, it's onto the hates with the extortionate cost of exotic car parts, infuriating people who speed up when you go to overtake them, and unnecessary manual conversions. Rounding things off, Thomas walks us through his dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime. Sam Sheehan, host of the Cinch YouTube channel, heads into the Carfessions booth with three motoring loves and hates for Jack and Cam to discuss.Sam starts things off with the joy of modifying cars (and why people aren't doing it any more), the perfect combination of a naturally aspirated engine paired with a manual gearbox, and why nothing beats a British B road. After that, he goes into the pointlessness of big alloy wheels, fun-sapping soft limiters and the baffling trend of whacking American indicator lights on British cars.To round things off, Sam digs through his dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime. Nicola kicks things off with the the endless supply of parking spaces in the seaside town of Eastbourne, the joy service stations can bring and the sheer brilliance of Formula 1 design legend Adrian Newey. Then, it's onto the people who don't understand the merge in turn, incessant bonging in modern cars and F1 fans who put way too much weight on practice sessions. Finally, Nicola wraps up with her dream garage, picking a car to daily, one for the weekend, another to drive once a year and that one car you'd happily drive once in a lifetime. Hosted on Acast.
