Momentum is building around Wilfried Nancy’s expected unveiling, with many now seeing it as only a matter of time before the Frenchman is confirmed as Celtic’s next manager. At 48, Nancy is known for a football philosophy rooted in modern infrastructure and data-driven decision-making - an approach he’d look to embed at Celtic if he accepts what would be his first role outside MLS. His potential appointment appears to bear the imprint of Paul Tisdale, with Celtic’s Head of Football Operations understood to have championed the move to bring the highly rated Columbus Crew coach to Glasgow. While some remain sceptical, plenty of supporters are energised by the prospect of the club embracing a fully modern model - and all just in time for the AGM. 😀 However we’ve got here, it could mark the start of an exciting new era at Celtic Park and a fresh direction for the football department. 🎙️ Join Tino, James and Paddy as we dig into all of this and more on the latest episode of Celtic Exchange Weekly. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? He took Bodo Glimt to their first ever league title in 2020, and has lifted three further titles since. Last season he steered them to the semi-finals of the Europa League before losing out to eventual winners Spurs. It’s the furthest any Norwegian side has ever progressed in European competition. And this season he negotiated qualifying to take his side to the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever where they’ll take on the likes of Juventus, Man City, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid in the weeks ahead. ‘He’ of course, is Kjetil Knutson, and his stock has never been higher – but will he be the man to replace Brendan Rodgers as permanent Celtic manager? Ex St Johnstone, Falkirk and Queen of the South forward David Weatherston joins us to run the rule over a figure that has been one of the front runners for the role. David finished his career in Norway and now lives there and so he’s spent more time than most following the career path of a man who it seems can do no wrong in that part of the world. We discuss Knutson’s journey to date, his style of play, and what he may bring to Celtic IF offered the job. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? All signs are now pointing firmly towards Wilfried Nancy as next Celtic manager with the 48 year old deemed the odds-on favourite to take on the role. Currently Head Coach of Columbus Crew in the MLS, the emergence of his name has led to a scramble among fans to get as much info as possible on the man who may replace Brendan Rodgers in the hot seat. In shades of Ange Postecoglou’s appointment, and Ronny Deila’s before that, Nancy isn’t widely known on these shores and so we spoke to someone in the know to get the lowdown on the highly rated Frenchman. Dublin-born John O’Rourke has been working in US Soccer for over 25 years and holds an A License from the United States Soccer Federation. Just two weeks ago John was in attendance as Nancy put on a training session for academy players at Philadelphia Union before later making a presentation and so is well placed to give his thoughts on his suitability. In this wide ranging discussion we look at Nancy’s coaching philosophy, his own career ambitions, and if he’s potentially the right man to lead Celtic forward. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? Celtic’s interim management duo of Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney made it three domestic wins on the spin at the weekend - racking up 11 goals in the process - but will wee see them back in the dugout after the international break? With the temperature at boiling point, the club simply has to get this one right. An early goal by Johnny Kenny put the Bhoys one up at the break before Tierney doubled the lead, with late goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels putting some gloss on the scoreline against a struggling Kilmarnock side. With Hearts only able to draw with Dundee United earlier in the day the result means we’re now just seven points adrift at the top of the table with a game in hand, and Derek McInnes’ side will now be feeling the pressure that little bit more. We now head in to the final international break of the calendar year, and it may well be that there’s a new man at the helm when we return - but either way it was another good day for interim manager Martin O’Neill who’s now registered three straight domestic wins since his surprise return to the club. 🎙️Join Tino & Mif for this one as they cover today’s important league win at Celtic Park. The hugely popular Irishman has brought some belief back - among players and fans alike - in the short time since his return, but with the club making moves to appoint a permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, will Sunday's clash with Kilmarnock be a final farewell for O'Neill. If so then he'll be determined to go out on a high as the Bhoys look to claw back what's currently a 9 point lead for Hearts at the top of the table. The immediate challenge is to lift the group following the disappointing defeat i Denmark, but if history tells us anything it's that there's no better man that O'Neill to do so. 🎙️ Join Tino & Greg for this one as they look ahead to Celtic's clash with Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. The hosts had won three Europa League games on the bounce going into this one but with O'Neill at the helm we headed into Matchday 4 with renewed confidence following his dramatic return last week. That confidence was obliterated however in an 8 minute first half spell which saw us go in three down at the break and from there on in we had a mountain to climb. Reo Hatate's penalty added some credibility to the scoreline but the night was made notably worse by what looks to be a worrying injury for young Callum Osmand. A sour note to top off what was already a miserable night on the road. 🎙️ Join Tino & James for this one as they rake over the coals of Celtic's latest Euro nightmare! And with four points from nine the Bhoys will be looking to pick up an important result on the road as they aim to stay on course for the knockouts stages. Martin O’Neill will forever be linked with this trophy due to Celtic’s unforgettable run to Seville in 2003, and guiding the current side into the latter stages would be a fitting chapter - whether he’s here to see the job through or not. Fresh from his exploits against Rangers, Callum Osmand replaces the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers in the squad and he and fellow in-form strike partner Johnny Kenny will relish the chance to prove what they can do on the European stage. That won't be easy however against a Midtjylland side who have registered three wins from three in the competition so far. 🎙️ Join Tino & Paddy as they look ahead to a pivotal night in Denmark for Martin O’Neill’s side. If you were a short story writer, you’d struggle to dream up anything more fantastical than the real-life drama that’s unfolded at Celtic Park over the past seven days. Shock resignations, dramatic statements, a returning hero - and that was just Monday! Since then, we’ve seen passionate fan protests, a swashbuckling win over Falkirk, the long-awaited release of the fan survey, and even a first look at the new stadium banners. And if all that wasn’t enough, Martin O’Neill returned to the dugout for his first Glasgow Derby in over 20 years - and, in classic O’Neill fashion, led the Bhoys to victory on a high-energy afternoon at Hampden Park. Callum Osmand rightly stole the headlines on the big occasion, but he wasn’t alone. A number of his teammates deserve huge credit for showing the kind of fighting spirit that’s been missing for much of the season as they played they battled their way into next month's final. At this rate, who knows what the next few weeks and months will bring? For now, though, let’s enjoy the sight of a proper Celtic team returning on the park - and look ahead to another massive couple of fixtures in the days to come. 🎙️ Join Tino, James and Asim as they break down all of this and more on the latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? Now, after being handed his debut by Martin O’Neill in midweek, the 19-year-old has fired Celtic into the League Cup Final - scoring a goal he’s since described as “the happiest moment of his life.” It was a brilliant day at Hampden under O’Neill’s leadership, and the returning hero deserves huge credit once again for getting the best out of Osmand, Auston Trusty, Callum McGregor, and others when their team needed them most. Like Osmand, it’s been a whirlwind week for O’Neill too - but right now, there’s no one else we’d rather see steering the Celtic ship. It may only be two wins in four days, but it feels like so much more, as Celtic finally look to get their season back on track. 🎙️ Join Tino and Conor for this one as they reflect on a big day for Martin O’Neill’s Celtic at the National Stadium. The returning hero has faced Rangers no fewer than 27 times as Celtic manager, and remarkably, it’s now over 25 years since his first encounter - the unforgettable 6–2 game back in August 2000. We’d all gladly take a repeat of that scoreline as the Bhoys look to retain the League Cup they lifted against the same opponents just under a year ago. Both sides, meanwhile, will be desperate to serve up something far more exciting than uninspiring stalemate that marked the first derby of the season. O’Neill and his assistant Shaun Maloney have some big decisions to make regarding their starting XI, but they’ll take confidence from Wednesday night’s performance against Falkirk - arguably Celtic’s best display of the campaign so far. 🎙️ Join Tino, James and Greg as they cover all the key talking points ahead of Sunday’s all-important semi-final at Hampden. After a whirlwind couple of days, Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney finally got down to work as Celtic faced Falkirk at Celtic Park on Wednesday night. Following an uncertain start to the season under Brendan Rodgers, the interim duo delivered a refreshing performance — an encouraging glimpse of what might be to come in the weeks ahead. Both men have ruled themselves out of taking the job on a permanent basis, meaning speculation over Celtic’s next manager continues to swirl. So too do the protests from fans, with a large group gathering outside the main entrance before kick-off to keep up the pressure on the club’s hierarchy. 🎙️ Tino joined presenter Tom White and guest Jamie O’Hara on Sky Sports to discuss all the latest developments. ========================================== 🔔 Want even more from The Celtic Exchange? Before kick-off, protests continued outside the main doors at Celtic Park as fans made clear their ongoping copncerns about how the club is currently being run, but once the whistle blew, all focus turned to the football - and to the returning O’Neill. That renewed sense of purpose was evident on the pitch too, with Celtic playing faster, sharper, and more directly than we’ve seen in some time. The Bhoys went about their business with a confidence and efficiency that set the tone for what could be an exciting spell under the interim management team. With league leaders Hearts dropping points, the gap at the top now stands at six - a welcome boost on a good night for the champions. Brendan Rodgers has finally left the building. Martin O’Neill has sensationally returned - and in between it all lies an explosive statement from dominant Celtic shareholder Dermot Desmond that truly has to be read to be believed. It’s been a 24-hour period that has rocked Scottish football to its core, and more specifically, poured even more fuel on the already raging fire around Celtic Park. O’Neill and Shaun Maloney will take charge for the foreseeable future, but the nature of Rodgers’ “resignation” - and the statements that followed - have raised far more questions than answers about the club’s day-to-day operations. And make no mistake its a win they thoroughly deserved for the effort and character shown throughout the game. The early injuries to Kelechi Iheanacho and Alistair Johnston piled extra pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ side, who haven't had their troubles to seek in recent weeks. But to their credit, they responded superbly to those setbacks and eventually took full control against the Austrian champions. Special praise goes to goalscorers Liam Scales and Benji Nygren, while Arne Engels offered a timely reminder of just how influential he can be at the heart of Celtic’s midfield.
