Lakshmi Kanchi is an emerging, prize-winning Indian Australian poet and storyteller on a mission—to make poetry accessible. She is the author of “Lakesong”, her debut poetry collection, published by Centre for Stories, and has been published in several journals and anthologies.
Lakshmi shares how her life began again while sitting and writing by the stained glass windows of the beloved Heritage House in Swanbourne.

Swanbourne Story Tracks is a collection sharing community stories of personal connections to the areas between Freshwater Bay, Lake Claremont, and the Indian Ocean. These stories were produced in partnership and made possible by generous funding from Town Team Movement and Project Mooro. Storytellers participated in a series of workshops where they worked with our specialist story trainer, Colin Archibald, to craft first-person narratives about their memorable experiences living in this neighbourhood or moments collected while passing through these streets in their lives.

Juliana Areais is an award-winning Brazilian Jazz singer-songwriter, dubbed the Bossa Nova Baby, whose captivating voice and rhythms have graced the Sydney Opera House and global jazz festivals. Juliana’s music blends smooth jazz with the vibrant soul of Brazil. Juliana is the creator of the “Sunset Songs at North Cottesloe”.
For Juliana, music is a vital way to connect with others, no matter where she resides. Here, she takes us to 2021, under the Cottesloe sunsets, where Brazilian Bossa Nova music provided life changing connections.

Jean Perkins is a quite tired Cott mum of two, who tries to swim more days than not and likes to chase extraordinary sunsets. After being hit by some major life hurdles, she got sick of being stoic and decided to help push a positive campaign for a local skate park.
In Jean’s story, she embraces the changes that life threw her way. This leads her to a local skate park in Cottesloe – a skate park that gathered the whole community.
