This week, The Doc gets back into a reflective mood discuss perhaps his favorite modern WWE year: 2012. Finally, The Rock came back for a proper wrestling match and what a match it was against John Cena at WrestleMania.  Rock-Cena cast a shadow over three calendar years, but CM Punk did his very best to steal both their spotlight as well as Undertaker and Triple H's.  Much as with 2011, Punk's combination of verbal tirades and tide-elevating in-ring performances endeared him to iconic levels. If the part-timer trend taking its foothold with Cena and Punk representing the contemporary generation constituted the Top 5 wrestlers that year, then Daniel Bryan by 2012's end was the next closest in line.  Meanwhile, a set of characters who make for interesting case studies now were peaking as singles stars, Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus in particular.  Chris Jericho, of course, also made a noteworthy mark, as did AJ Lee. So, it was a fascinating year really, and such is why it occupies a place near and dear to your orator.  Doc was enamored with 2012 in the moment and has remained so as it repeatedly passes time's test.

On Episode 254, Big Dave returns to recap one of the biggest weekends of the year in pro wrestling….WWE Summer Slam! The 2019 edition of the Biggest Party of the Summer had all the drama you would expect from a Big 4 PPV and lasting ramifications for WWE moving forward. On this Episode, Dave recaps the two weeks leading into Summer Slam ’19 and NXT Takeover Toronto II by reviewing Raw, Smackdown Live, and NXT leading into those two mega events. From there, we move into the review of NXT Takeover: Toronto II. NXT has been the center of wrestling news the past couple of days and Takeover Toronto II, and the fall out from that event, had a lot to do with that. With all of the NXT Championships on the line, the event lived up to the hype. Big Dave reviews the event here on Episode 254, including the final chapter of the epic rivalry between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano. Also included on this Episode is a preview of Summer Slam ’19 recorded just prior to the event. That is then followed up with the Summer Slam ’19 review. It was a very good PPV, even though nothing truly shocking happened. How did Seth Rollins manage to slay The Beast yet again? How did “The Man” Becky Lynch and Bayley put away the latest challengers to their respective Championships? How did Charlotte Flair become the Queen of all Eras? Does The Fiend have one of the coolest entrances ever? And why did the outcome of Kofi Kingston v Randy Orton feel vaguely familiar to certain things that went down last year? Big Dave breaks it all down for you and contemplates might it all might mean moving forward here on this Super Recap of Summer Slam weekend for 2019.

This week, The Doc is pretty excited about the state of pro wrestling, coming off a highly memorable several days of WWE, NJPW, and NXT shows.  In reflection, he counts down the Top 10 matches and moments from the extended weekend.Overall impressions from each of the aforementioned shows are given as well, with his opinions on Summerslam and Takeover: Toronto II maybe considered "hot takes."  For instance, Doc believes that one of those shows was the best of a certain category since 2015. Once into the Top 10, you can expect a few surprises.  Matches others have lauded, Doc struggled to connect with, leaving popular top level choices for countdowns like these on the outside looking in.  That said, the door was then open for him to highlight some matches that many might have left off their respective lists.  For instance, an eighth match in the G1 Climax for a legend and an underrated star nearly vaulted Doc's entire field to reach the top spot.  Which match was it?  Did your favorite make the cut?  Which event featured the most matches on Doc's countdown?  Tune in and find out!
