Today I’m going a little old-school. Back in my first podcast, Ready Get Centered Go, I used to share the dharma talks that opened my public yoga classes. About Gary Kraftsow
Founder and Director of the American Viniyoga Institute.
Gary Kraftsow has been an innovator in the transmission of yoga for health, healing, and personal transformation for over 40 years. He began his study of yoga in India with T.K.V. Deśikācar in 1974 and received a Viniyoga Special Diploma from Viniyoga International in Paris, France in 1988.
Gary graduated with a BA, Magna Cum Laude, from Colgate University in 1976 and received his Masters Degree in Psychology and Religion from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1983. Around that time, he opened Maui School of Yoga Therapy. In 1999, he founded the American Viniyoga Institute, LLC. Since then, he has become a renowned speaker and teacher of the Viniyoga methodology at many conferences and schools nationally and internationally.

Today we have the distinct pleasure of speaking with Charles MacInerny, a master yoga teacher and community leader here in Austin, Texas. He has so much to share with us about the creation of Free Day of Yoga, which is a long-standing Labor Day tradition here in Austin Texas.

Charles F. MacInerney, E-RYT-500, YACEP, C-IAYT, has been a full-time teacher of yoga, meditation and mind/body skills since 1989. He teaches ongoing yoga classes in Austin, Texas, offers yoga workshops at studios around the country, and leads Yoga & Meditation Retreats as well as Yoga & Writing Retreats throughout the US, Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. He is founder of Expanding Paradigms through which he regularly presents at National and International Conferences, and offers training for businesses, hospitals, education and government. Episode Exercise: Pause and ask yourself: What communities are you connected to? Do you feel they are life-giving? Do they reflect some of the positive aspects of sahasrara? Let’s follow this question back down the mountain, along the manifesting current, and let’s see how you do as you run this question through the rest of the chakras:
Do they give you a better perspective on your life?(Ajna)
Do you resonate with them, and do they speak well of each other? (Vishuddah)
Do they open your heart? (Anahata)
Do you encourage each other in positive transformation? (Manipura)
Are they supportive to your emotions and help you navigate life’s obstacles? (Svadhisthana)
Do you feel safe with them? (Muladhara)
In this week's episode, we are delving into the practice of looking for the good, for seeking the delightful, because it is good for your body, mind, and soul.
"Looking for the Good" is a practice I learned in my Anusara Teacher Training back in NYC in 2003. Listen as I share a funny story that proved delightfully inspiring to my students (hint: it involves a pigeon and the Port Authority Bus Terminal).
I also talk about how much I love "The Book of Delights," by author/poet Ross Gay.

Today we’re spillin’ the tea on gossip, toxicity, and the fifth chakra. If you’ve ever been around gossip, you're a recovering gossiper, or if you just can’t put your finger on what it is, I hope you’ll have some clarity after this episode.
In doing some research on this topic I drew wisdom from the Jess G Yoga Facebook community, Rudyard Kipling, and Eleanor Roosevelt. At the end, we’ll make some noise to clear the air and give your fifth chakra a good clean reset. Then when you go out into the world, your words are used to restore, not destroy.
