This week it's Paul's turn to jump on his soap box .... and Linkedin is his subjet du jour.Lindsey does a fantastic job in bringing some clarity to this, clarity to the idea that we are hiding in plain sight all too often when we experience thoughts and feelings like Paul has about Linkedin. This episode is packed with real tips and ideas on how to avoid hiding in plain sight that will change your mindset. If you want to know more about how Lindsey creates growth and opportunity in her business through the relationships she develops, jump on her website and drop her a message. Please like and subscribe to the podcast! His and hers, yin and yang - we wrestle with the topics that matter and reality check the latest trends in business so you don't have to.Paul works with business leaders, using the latest in neuroscience to show them how business success through a people lens can transform their business. https://www.dnaneuroanalytics.com/While Lindsey offers business coaching that empowers ambitious women to create financial abundance and a time-rich lifestyle without sacrificing their joy. https://lindseyburden.com/
Lindsey is on a soapbox in this episode, and for good reason. We look at how we see things will colour our responses and the actions we take. How we see things creates a self-fulfilling prophecy for the mindset we have and that sits at the core of perception. It all begins on Lindsey's holiday and ends with great business advice, with some life lessons thrown in.If you want to know more about how Lindsey creates growth and opportunity in her business through the relationships she develops, jump on her website and drop her a message.
We all certainly hope not! However, AI is developing at an incredible rate, and it's time to look at how we can embrace AI as a tool which adds to our offering, not replaces us.In this episode, we look at the impact of AI and the mindset around AI for small business owners, specifically where the benefits AI can be found. For example, Lindsey as a one-person business, uses AI to bounce ideas off and develop new angles which is hugely beneficial when you have no one around you all the time,Ultimately, not embracing AI is a very risky strategy.
Paul is sensing a subtle undercurrent. For Lindsey, it's not so subtle...she describes it as chaos. And it's having an impact.Last year, it was quite challenging for businesses; it was a time for building foundations. This year, it feels like these foundations are being tested.Business owners are finding that customers are being more discerning with the money they spend. And we talk about why that's actually a good thing. We talk about how you can navigate these challenges and turn them into opportunities.
Filtering the noise

Filtering the noise

2025-06-1639:06

Business can get noisy.... really noisy. We are bombarded with so much info that it can feel utterly overwhelming.Everyone has an opinion! So, the question we wrestle with in this episode is, with all this noise, what should you listen to and what should you ignore? You don't need a 6-month, six-figure engagement to understand why your 8-person product team keeps missing deadlines or why your customer success team has 40% turnover.Sometimes the solution is simpler than you think. Understanding how your people naturally work, communicate, and make decisions can unlock performance you already have—you just need to see the invisible patterns. The companies that figure this out don't just solve their immediate problems. They build a competitive advantage in how quickly they can integrate new talent and how effectively their teams collaborate under pressure. If you're leading a team that should be performing better than it is, you're not imagining things. And you don't have to accept "that's just how teams are."
It's not the time you spend in or for your business or your job, it's something that's personal to you and away from the daily pressure to cram in as much as you can in the pursuit of success. But here's the thing...- Where does that time come from, we are all so busy, right?- There's all the expectation put on us to make time for something socially accepted as quality 'me time' as defined by everyone else.- Is work/life balance really a thing and can it give us the space to do our 'me time'?We wrestle with this 'me time' thing and we share some really valuable and reassuring advice on how to get the 'me time' thats right for you, rather than to meet the expectations of others.Grab a beverage of choice and hunker down for this one, it's got some curveballs!
It's not for everyone

It's not for everyone

This is part 3 of our Triology on where business ownership is for you and what it means to start and build a business. In this episode we get real, we talk about the reality of building a business and how it might not be for you and thats OK, completely OK.We deal with the common perception that building and having your own business means you have full flexibility in your life and its all very easy.Well, its not.It can be incredibly fulfilling but its no easy. And its that point we wrestle with, both in favour of being a business owner and the reality that its no for everyone. If you want to know more about how Lindsey creates growth and opportunity in her business through the relationships she develops jump on her website and drop her a message.

Building a business isn't easy but we are bombarded with messages that its a simple, painless process to become super successful.Well, in our combined experience of over 50 years we see something very different. We both feel passionately that building a business should be something anyone who feels they have an entrepreneurial desire should be able to take one.But we want them to go into it with their eyes open. This episode, one of several on this subject, is a very personal and value packed episode where we share our experiences of building successful businesses and what we believe is important in the journey you will go on as a new business owner. If you want to know more about how Lindsey creates growth and opportunity in her business through the relationships she develops jump on her website and drop her a message.
All the research shows that women are more willing to undergo more training and learning than men in similar situations. We wrestle with why that might be the case and why it's so important to understand the mindset behind that behaviour.Paul talks about biases around this behaviour and how it can drive women to feel they need to continuously prove themselves against men. (Paul specialises in working with unconscious biases, if you want to know how biases affect your life and how you can overcome them you can contact Paul at www.dnaneuroanalytics.com).We discuss the idea that more training isn't always the answer to growing your business, in fact, it can hold it back.We talk about the role society and culture plays. This one is very much a tale from two sides! It's common practice to offer a potential client a freebie to help win the business but there is a line between it being a positive tool for business development and it becoming something that does exactly the opposite and hurts your business development. We look at this in detail and share our experiences, both good and bad, to help you avoid the freebie trap that damages your business. The first episode of 2025! Why do we use the New Year as a time to put the plans into action? We chat about where procrastination comes in when we choose a date in the future (Jan 1st is the most common point for this). We look at the discipline we need to get the planning done by a particular date. Paul talks about how planning can be maintained by using the trigger reward loop to keep on top of it. We break it down to make the commitment to hitting the key date you have set yourself. Overcommitting is one of the greatest risks in plan execution. Grab a cuppa and have a listen. It's the end-of-the-year episode. As business owners, planning should be second nature. Fail to plan is planning to fail as they say. When it comes to planning there is a big question... Whose expectations are you trying to live up to in your planning? Your expectations for your business or the pressure from outside influences? We look at planning from a practical and real perspective and how a world of immediate gratification colours our view of planning for success. If you are in the midst of planning this might be the episode that sheds light on how to approach planning with a winners mindset. Listen and watch on Spotify.Listen on Apple. It's widely accepted that social media is the most effective strategy for growing your business. But is that true? Is there an alternative approach that doesn't put the sole emphasis on social media. Have a listen to why we think it isn't as clear-cut as you might think. We share strategies that will give you the growth you want in your business without relying solely on social media. We share how to develop those relationships in business that can make all the difference. Lindsey has a bee in her bonnet! ( just don't mention the budget 😁). Knee-jerk decisions seem to be everywhere and we have decided its time to look at knee-jerk as a strategy...or not. - Do knee-jerk decisions have a place in business? - Are panic moments a driver for poor business decisions? - Knee-jerk is driven largely by how people feel, not always what they think, can that be a good thing? - The role social media has in driving knee-jerk reactions A very direct episode that deals with the tricky subject of making quick, knee-jerk decisions, that really do work for us rather than against us.
Consequences

Consequences

There are consequences to every action we take and the decisions we make. The question is do we always consider the consequences when we make a decision? Even if the decision is to do nothing. We wrestle with the idea that consequences and outcomes are the same thing or not! We talk about owning the consequences. We end up with strong opinions on this one, have a listen and give us your view and opinion. Listen and watch on Spotify.Listen on Apple. When things don't go to plan our default can be to simply do more... - more marketing - more admin - more qualifications The list goes on... Eventually, it starts to feel like it's from a place of desperation. One critical area of this is the dreaded ... lowering your prices to get more sales. We talk about why this isn't the best plan when it comes to building income.... not by a long shot! We explore this idea of doing more and expect that to solve our immediate problems. This is an area close to mine and Lindsey's heart as we see too many business owners falling into this rabbit warren and we want that to stop. Therefore on an incredibly rare occasion, we offer our services directly, and this is one of those occasions. If you want help to get your business back on track and stop simply doing more book a no obligation call with either of us on the following links: Lindsey - https://bookme.name/lindseybrownburden/lite/discovery-call Paul - https://meetfox.com/en/e/paul-snell
We all know having a 'why' is important, certainly for your business, but what if your 'why' becomes the problem? How would you know? We started out to record an episode about what isn't a 'why' and it quickly morphed into the idea that 'could your why become the problem?' Grab a beverage of your choice and have a listen. This episode went places even we didn't expect. Drop us a message with your thoughts, we would love to hear from you. Listen and watch on Spotify.Listen on Apple.
