Hosted by Heather Holt, each episode shares raw, real-life stories of resilience—exploring what happens after the moment everything shifts: loss, love, trauma, reinvention, or unexpected growth.
Step into an intimate space of honesty and hope. You’ll hear from everyday people navigating grief, motherhood, mental health, and identity—revealing how change cracked them open and what came next.
These aren’t just stories you listen to. They’re stories you feel.

This special Thanksgiving Smile Drop brings all the chaotic, hilarious, heart-warming energy of the holiday into one bite-sized episode. Whether you’re traveling, cooking, hiding from political conversations, or sneaking pie in the bathroom so you don’t have to share, this one’s for you.
In this episode, Heather shares a funny, relatable look at the holiday we all try to get right—even though someone always burns the rolls, someone loses the carving knife, and someone always insists the cranberry sauce should “shlooop” a certain way.
From cross-country travel, tree-hunting traditions, and the annual return of hunting season warriors… to tofu roasts, gluten-free side dishes, emotional food fights, and dogs stealing dinner rolls under the table, this Smile Drop celebrates the real moments that make Thanksgiving unforgettable.
And tucked between the laughs is the quiet reminder we all need: gratitude.
Not the Instagram version—real gratitude.
For breath.
For food.
For family (by blood, by choice, or by holiday survival).
For still gathering in a world that feels like a lot sometimes.
If you need a warm, humorous break this Thanksgiving, this is it.
Press play, breathe, and enjoy the chaos, the comfort, and the reminder that today—right now—is worth being grateful for.

Ken was told as a child that he might never be able to read. In this powerful episode, you’ll hear how he proved every prediction wrong. With the support of his grandparents, Ken built a life defined not by limitations, but by determination.
From 33 years in military intelligence to a long career in the airline industry, Ken’s path eventually led him to reinvent himself—earning his master’s degree, learning Spanish, and writing his own psychological thriller, Trapped in Deception.
Now retired and living in Peru, Ken is studying for his doctorate and working on future books. His story is a testament to persistence, self-worth, and the courage to create your own narrative.

If you love funny dog stories, big goofy Labs, or pets who fully believe they own the house, you’re in the right place.
In this Smile Drop episode, Waylon and Dalton — my two bed-hogging, UPS-driver-obsessed Labs — finally get the spotlight they’ve been dramatically begging for.
You’ll hear about:
• Their Olympic-level bed-hogging
• Waylon’s love affair with the UPS driver
• Dalton’s… foot-sniffing hobby
• Their vet-approved “maybe a little chubby” status
• And why Thanksgiving is basically their Super Bowl
If you’re a dog person, this one will make you smile, laugh, and absolutely say, “Yep… been there.”
💛 These are the stories that remind us: dogs take up the whole bed, the whole house, and the whole heart.

Terry’s story moves from a chaotic childhood and a life‑saving accident to discovering deep intuitive gifts she didn’t yet have words for. Wired shut as a child and raised to survive, she learned to manifest, find her voice, and reclaim herself — symbolized by the moment she buys a black BMW convertible.
After leaving a 14‑year relationship and surviving a near‑end moment, Terry steps into energy work and becomes an intuitive healer who helps others reconnect with themselves and loved ones. Her journey is one of resilience, intuition, and the courage to live authentically.

Two Brains, No Filter is what happens when two podcasters with two very different personalities—and two rewired brains—decide to hit record with no filter.
Hosted by Heather Holt (Change Happened, Then What?) and Rob Baugh (Life Rewired: The Brain Injury Podcast), this weekly mini-series is your five-minute brain break from… well, everything.
Each episode is fun-sized, fast, and unapologetically unfiltered. Expect oversharing, weird stories, chaotic humor, accidental wisdom, and the kind of honesty that makes you say:
“I didn’t mean to say that out loud either.”
We don’t do deep dives. We don’t do heavy topics.
We do real moments, random thoughts, and whatever pops into our heads before we can stop ourselves.
If you’ve ever replayed a conversation wondering, “Why did I share THAT?”—you’re our people.
Two Brains, No Filter — because even with two brains, there’s still no filter.

In this episode of Change Happened, Then What?, host Heather Holt sits down with Rob Baugh — a brain injury survivor, author, and host of Life Rewired — to explore what a single bee taught him about fear, healing, and second chances. Together, they uncover how a moment of panic turned into a story of resilience, humor, and hope. It’s a heartfelt reminder that sometimes, change is just the beginning of being rewired for life.

Before caller ID, every ring was a mystery — your grandma, your crush, or a prank call asking if your refrigerator was running. In this nostalgic Smile Drops episode, Heather Holt takes a funny, heartfelt look back at rotary phones, twisty cords, and the days when answering the phone meant real connection (and maybe a little chaos).
Rediscover the humor and heart of simpler times, when we actually picked up the phone instead of screening it.

What would you do if the doctors looked at you and said it was time to say your goodbyes — that you probably wouldn’t make it through another day?
In this powerful episode, Heather shares the extraordinary story of Kelly, a woman whose body may have betrayed her, but whose spirit never did. Diagnosed with anti-synthetase syndrome (PL-7) and myositis, two incredibly rare autoimmune disorders, Kelly’s immune system began attacking her own lungs and muscles. Every breath became a battle.
But even as her body weakened, Kelly’s light only grew stronger. Through laughter, faith, and fierce love for her daughter, she found gratitude in the smallest moments — reminding us all what it means to keep choosing life, one breath at a time.
Her story is one of resilience, loss, motherhood, and grace. Within just a few short years, Kelly faced ovarian cancer, her daughter’s nonverbal autism diagnosis, her mother’s stroke, and her husband’s heartbreaking fight with glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer there is. Yet somehow, she never lost her laughter or her will to love.
In this episode, Heather invites listeners into an unfiltered conversation — oxygen hums softly in the background as Kelly shares what it’s really like to live with a body that’s fighting itself. Her words, her pauses, even her coughs become part of a soundscape of honesty and hope.
Before she passed, Kelly left behind words of wisdom that feel even more sacred today:
“Just being alive.”
After her passing, Kelly’s legacy continues — she became one of the one percent of people medically eligible to donate organs, giving life to others even after her final breath. Her daughter is surrounded by love and support, and Kelly’s light continues to shine through everyone who hears her story.
Every Breath Is a Gift is a heartfelt reminder that even when the body falters, the soul can still soar.
Listen for:
A rare look inside life with autoimmune disease and myositis
The emotional reality of glioblastoma caregiving and loss
Reflections on motherhood, resilience, and finding joy after tragedy
Kelly’s final wisdom — and how her light continues to shine
Because sometimes, the most miraculous thing we can do… is simply keep breathing.

You know nobody really prepares you for how complicated clothes can get. From baby pajamas with snaps to the first big challenge—tying your shoes—life’s wardrobe decisions have always said more about us than we realize. In this humorous and heartfelt episode of Smile Drops, Heather unpacks the evolution of clothing: Velcro vs. laces, buttons vs. zippers, and the great surrender to yoga pants and elastic waistbands. It’s a nostalgic, funny look at how our clothes mirror our growth—and why sometimes the most freeing thing you can do is trade the button fly for a little stretch and self-acceptance. Because maybe it’s not about what holds our clothes together, but what holds us together.

What happens when a 4.0 college student, marathon runner, and gifted musician is suddenly hit by a car—and everything changes in an instant?
In this powerful episode of Change Happened, Then What?, host Heather Holt shares the story of Andy Johnson, whose life was forever altered by a traumatic brain injury. Once a brilliant student and saxophone player, Andy had to relearn how to walk, speak, and even add 2 + 2. Yet somehow, one thing never left him—music.
From playing Chopin by memory when he couldn’t remember his own name, to discovering forgiveness as the key to real healing, Andy’s journey shows how the human spirit can rebuild itself note by note. Along the way, he graduates with two degrees, becomes a licensed therapist, and opens a practice helping others heal through Brainspotting and trauma-informed therapy.
This is a story about recovery, purpose, and the freedom that comes when you let go.

On an ordinary Sunday morning, everything inside Shawnti finally gave way. What looked like a life held together became a mirror of small, unspoken truths — pregnancy at fourteen, nights of numbness, a thrill-seeking need to feel alive, and a hollow performance of strength that masked a growing storm.
In this powerful episode of Change Happened, Then What?, host Heather Holt guides us through Shawnti’s raw and relentless journey: from a childhood where feelings were forbidden and chaos felt normal, to the day her mind and body finally said, “Enough.” What followed was a month-long unraveling — a clinical diagnosis, a hesitant first visit to a psychiatrist, and the painful trial and error of finding someone who could truly hold her story.
Through faith, therapy, and the healing power of journaling, Shawnti began transforming pain into purpose — proving that asking for help isn’t weakness, it’s courage. From a stack of dollar-store notebooks labeled with old wounds, she built a life of meaning, becoming a Master Certified Mental Health Coach and best-selling author of Quiet As Kept.
This episode is a conversation about courage — about choosing therapy over shame, truth over silence, and healing over survival. It’s a reminder that you are not weak for needing help; you are human, and you are not alone.
Stay until the end for this week’s Change Challenge and your chance to win a cozy Change Happened, Then What? tee or hat.

He was the kid who learned to earn attention with strikeouts and satellites of confidence—until the game that defined him began to take everything it had given. In this episode, Michael Bugary tells a raw, unflinching story of wanting to belong so badly he built a life around being someone else: the baseball player, the prospect, the one everyone watched. From a scholarship to UC Berkeley to the lights of the Red Sox organization, his rise looks like the dream. But under the helmet, the pressure, injuries, and a secret dependence on substances hollowed out what he loved most.
This is not a tidy cautionary tale. It’s a messy, human journey through addiction, a devastating brain tumor, and the slow collapse of a carefully performed identity. Michael admits the things he tried to fix himself—human growth hormone, painkillers, the endless chase of performance—and how they pushed him toward the edge. He walks us through interventions, failed recoveries, and the numbness that made him incapable of seeing how his choices hurt the people who loved him.
Then something small and unexpected shifts the axis of his life: a therapy dog named Lingo. Brought into a house full of hurt, Lingo becomes the quiet instrument of change—teaching Michael what unconditional love feels like, nudging him into humility, and drawing him back into service. Together they enter children’s hospitals, where laughter replaces pride and compassion replaces ego. Through those visits, Michael discovers the truth behind the old phrase that the longest distance is between the head and the heart. He learns to cross it.
By turns heartbreaking and hopeful, this episode explores what it means to lose your identity—and to rebuild one without the applause. Michael’s story asks the listeners to consider: what would you be without your performance? How do you find meaning when the game is over? Told with candid honesty by Heather Holt and her guest, this episode is for anyone who has chased something until it hurt, who has been surprised by rescue in its smallest form, and who believes that healing can arrive in the wag of a tail.

What sparks a podcast into life? For me, it wasn’t a polished plan — it was change. After loss, divorce, brain surgery, and learning to smile again, I wanted to listen, to hold space, and to tell stories that were felt, not just told.
In this first episode of Embers & Echoes — a three-part mini-series to close out Season 1 of Change Happened, Then What? — I rewind to the very beginning: how this podcast was born, the 13 friends who trusted me with their stories, and the unexpected ways Season 1 unfolded.
You’ll hear about Jeannie’s grief and spiritual resilience, Tim & Candy’s humor through chaos, Natalie’s courage to heal her brain, Jen’s unfiltered honesty, Julie’s story of adoption and chosen family — and so much more. These weren’t just interviews. They were blueprints of human truth.
Along the way, I share what I’ve learned about storytelling, silence, connection, and community. And how, with your messages and support, this podcast became more than just mine — it became ours.
Season 2 launches October 14th with new stories, new friendships, and new beginnings. But first, let’s return to the spark that started it all.

This podcast didn’t start with answers—it started with questions. After brain surgery, loss, and life-altering change, host Heather Holt asked: What do we do with the pieces when life falls apart? Season 1 explored those pieces through 13 powerful conversations that resonated around the world.
Now, Season 2 is here—and the circle is expanding.
From a brain cancer survivor turned motivational speaker, to a mother reclaiming her identity after trauma, to a brain injury survivor healing through humor—this season is about heartbreak, healing, and everything in between.
These stories aren’t polished. They’re not tied up in bows. But they are real. And they matter.
Follow Change Happened, Then What? for Season 2—where honest storytelling meets radical resilience.
New season launches this fall.

New season begins this fall. Hit follow and catch up on Season 1 now.
I didn’t start this podcast because I had the answers. I started it because I had questions. After brain surgery, after loss, after life unraveled—I found myself wondering: When change hits hard and fast… then what?
That question became the heart of this show.
Season 1 shared powerful stories from 13 people who changed my life. Now, in Season 2, the circle gets wider. You’ll hear real, unfiltered stories of heartbreak, healing, and reinvention from people like:
Michael Bugary, brain cancer survivor and former pro athlete
Morgan Scafe, who rebuilt her life with radical self-love
Rob Baugh, who finds humor and hope after traumatic brain injury
These stories aren’t polished. They’re human. And they might just help you breathe a little easier in your own season of change.
🎙 Follow now so you don't miss what comes next.
💛 Because when change comes—and it always does—what follows might just change you.
