Is the Resurrection hypothesis the best explanation for the know facts? Perhaps there are other hypotheses in circulation that rely on a natural explanation. Did the disciples experience a grief hallucination? Could the women have gone to the wrong tomb? Could Jesus have fainted on the cross? Maybe Jesus was an alien. These objections and more on today's episode.
In today's episode I discuss the evidence for the empty tomb using the acronym JET. The Jerusalem Factor, Enemy Attestation and the Testimony of Women.
Why is the conversion of Paul and James significant? How does their conversions help build the case for the resurrection? In this episode, I discuss facts 3 and 4 of the fab 5 facts and the sources we have to support the data.
In this episode, we discuss fact #2, "The disciples believed that Jesus rose and appeared to them." We look at different sources to support this statement including Paul and the early Church Fathers. We will discuss the minimal facts approach. What are the 2 criteria that must be met in order to be considered a minimal fact? In this episode we will discuss keeping the main thing the main thing and avoid becoming sidetracked by secondary issues. Plus we will look at the Fact #1 and the evidence supporting it.
Join me over the next few episodes as we conduct a historical investigation on the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. We will conduct an approach that considers only historical facts surrounding Jesus that are well-attested and that are accepted by nearly every scholar that studies the subject, even the rather skeptical ones. Next, we will define the Fab 5 Facts that pertain to Jesus of Nazareth and then we will seek to find the best explanation for these facts. Plus, we will look at other naturalistic explanations for the facts that are commonly appealed to.
Remember this proverb: "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive." The meaning is clear. If you tell a lie to cover yourself, then you have to tell another and another and the next thing you know, you cannot remember who you told what. Did the gospel writers plan to deceive their readers? Is there evidence of the credibility of their narratives? Grab your Bible and follow along as we carefully explore these "Undesigned Coincidences."
Have you ever played the game "telephone"? This game is played when one person whispers something to another person, who whispers to another and so on until you get to the last person. The last person then reveals to everyone what they heard and then it is compared to the original message. Most of the time, there are details left out and the story gets changed. Many skeptics of the New Testament will use the telephone game as an analogy of how the New Testament has been corrupted. We will deal with this objection in this episode.
Does the New Testament record eyewitness accounts? Are the eyewitness accounts credible? Could the eyewitnesses been mistaken?
Have you ever lied to rescue yourself from trouble? Who hasn't? Have you ever embellished a story about yourself? Maybe you were telling your friend about the 5 pound bass you caught but it was really 2 pounds. We have all done it. But have you ever told a lie to purposefully get yourself into trouble? Have you embellished a story to make yourself look even worse? No one does this. In today's episode, we explore the gospel records for evidence of embarrassing details which lend credibility to the narratives.
Is the New Testament accurate? Are we to take what the writers say on blind faith or can we investigate their claims? In this episode, I explore 4 pieces of archaeological evidence that supports New Testament claims.
