Description

The go-to podcast for Christian homeschool moms who want to achieve work-life balance and homeschool effectively.

Are you trying to balance your calling to homeschool with the need to work from home — and feeling stretched thin in every direction?

Do you feel like no matter how early you wake up, there’s never enough time for school, work, and the house?

Are you praying for peace and wisdom as you raise kids who love learning and love Jesus?

This podcast will help you organize your homeschool, manage your time wisely, and balance work, home, and faith — without waking up at 5 a.m. or color-coded schedules.

Hi, I’m Elisa — and this is my 6th year homeschooling. Back in 2019, my world flipped upside down when my son was kicked out of school after the vaccine religious exemption repeal in New York. I thought homeschooling would be temporary, but as a single mom running a business, I was terrified I couldn’t keep up. How was I supposed to teach him everything his growing brain needed while also putting food on the table?

In fact, I doubted myself so much that I packed up our lives and moved 650 miles away just so he could attend public school again. But God had other plans. When we returned to homeschooling — this time with no family nearby and no built-in support system — I wrestled daily with the same fears you probably do...

Can I balance work and homeschooling?

Am I doing enough?

Will my kids fall behind?

What I discovered is that homeschooling is not school at home. Once I let go of unrealistic expectations, leaned on God’s strength instead of my own, and started building systems and routines, things shifted. We had more freedom - now my son and I do life together, and he’s learned to think critically, explore his interests, and grow in his faith. And I finally found the margin to run my business and disciple my child without constant burnout.

Now, I help other Christian work-at-home moms do the same — by trusting God with the outcome, simplifying homeschool, and creating time management strategies that bring peace to your days and keep your focus on what truly matters.

If you’re ready to simplify your homeschool, manage your time with confidence, and create a faith-filled home that actually feels peaceful, then grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let’s get started.

About the Episode Today I'm doing another AMA episode on The Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms. Taylor, who's in her first year of being a working homeschool mom, is worried about balancing work and quality time with her child. Christi is new to working and homeschooling and feels like it's going to be too much to manage it all. Katherine, who's been a WHM for two years, feels like other moms manage their schedules really well. Be sure to reach out if you have questions you'd like me to answer. That's why I'd like to tell you about the online math curriculum we've been using for years – CTCMath.com. As far as math curriculums go, it has loads of great features that solve lots of the math issues we've had and I know a lot of homeschooling families have. Here are a few of the features (from the many) that we really like: Questions are adaptive which means the interactive questions change in difficulty depending on the student's ability. They use a smart algorithm that tracks the student's progress and delivers questions based on their unique needs. The student doesn’t even know this is happening, helping them to build confidence and master concepts! Concepts are delivered through video tutorials and summaries which are clear, complete, and easy to follow [like having your very own teacher]. This ensures your children understand something before they're asked to practise it. And then for us parents, CTCMath has: Extensive reports which are valuable in monitoring your child's progress and spotting any gaps. And they offer a 12-month money-back guarantee if this curriculum is not for you and your family. CTCMath will provide a full refund, no questions asked. But I think the most important things is a whole lot LESS stress when it's math time for both parents AND kids. About the Podcast On the Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms this week, I have the great pleasure of welcoming Karen Stone, BA, Special Ed, MA, Learning Disabilities, onto the podcast. Karen has worked in the education field for more than 45 years. Karen’s education background and her own experiences of being bullied from childhood to early adulthood, at home and school led her to authoring an anti-bullying blog, www.howwestopbullying.com. Karen’s work is also influenced by her experiences raising a son with significant disabilities. Karen’s professional experiences as an educator showed her that for children to be successful, whether they had disabilities or not, they needed to value themselves, each other and their abilities. As CEO of SoftStone Products, Inc., Karen has written and piloted research-based children’s Emotional Intelligence (EQ) programs implemented with students from Preschool to High School. Karen’s new book, Is Your Child’s World Emotionally Safe?, reveals her personal story but also makes a compelling case for the inclusion of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in every home and classroom. It was wonderful chatting to Karen and hearing about the importance of teaching our little ones EQ from a young age. She shares some really interesting ways to include this in your homeschool, even as a busy working homeschool mom. You get to outsource math with confidence and your kids get a fantastic tailor-made programme that makes learning and mastering math enjoyable and positive. About the Episode As a working mom newly starting with homeschooling back in 2017, I desperately wanted guidance, step-by-step instructions and an operating manual. I didn’t trust myself to make this work. And I definitely wanted to know what was considered the right amount of homeschool time by age.  How much homeschooling would my kids need so that they succeeded? How many hours would they be expected to sit and quietly do work? And going on their time in public school, how was I ever going to fit all those hours into my already hectically busy day?! It took some time, but eventually I figured everything out. So in the episode today, I’m going to tell you what I found out and what works for us. And I bet you’re going to be pretty surprised by what I have to share! I'll give you exactly the recommended hours per day to homeschool. But I'm also going to share some tips and strategies for making the most of the time you have and for also saving time with homeschooling! About the Episode On the Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms this week, I chat to Elan Page about diversity in homeschooling. Elan is a podcaster, coach, and founder of Homeschool Our Way. She is passionate about supporting families of color as they start their homeschool journey because of the invaluable opportunities it's afforded her own family: the ability to give her two daughters one-on-one instruction, the ability to nurture their children’s individual strengths and passions, and the ability to adapt both of their girls’ education to their unique learning styles. Elan believes strongly that every family should have the knowledge and resources they need to start homeschooling with confidence and clarity, and Homeschool Our Way exists to do just that. Elan and her husband live in Dallas, Texas with their elementary-aged daughters. Elan has such a positive outlook on homeschooling and it's a joy to hear about her experiences. It's also so valuable to hear her sage advice about balancing work and homeschooling and making sure children feel seen and represented in their homeschooling journey.
