This month we had the honor of interviewing children's book author and illustrator Yuyi Morales. Yuyi has written books that have received numerous awards such as Nino Wrestles the World, Dreamers - Soñadores and has helped illustrate books such as Harvesting Hope - Cosechando esperanza while working side by side with authors such as Laura Lacámara and Isabel Campoy. We had the opportunity to talk to her about her journey as an author and as an emergent bilingual. This is an episode you will not want to miss!
This month we had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Xochitl Rocha, Dual Language Coordinator at TEA. Dr. Rocha gives us some insight into Dual Language education, and the exciting things TEA is doing to support this across the state of Texas. We talk about implementation of Dual Language and the advantages of it's growth into the secondary grades.
On this episode we will be chatting with bilingual book author and illustrator Laura Lacamara. We will find out about her journey as an author and what is some advice she has for any students that may want to follow their dreams as an author.
We will be talking to Carlene about some of the growth in the ESL population in Texas and some of the things that teachers can do to have success not only with newcomers but with long term emergent bilinguals.
In this episode you will get to meet the Bilingual/ESL Department form Conroe ISD. Conroe ISD is a 348 square mile school district located in the Houston, Texas metropolitan area. The geographic areas of the District are diverse and include The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, Conroe, and Caney Creek, as well as several other smaller towns, communities, and unincorporated areas. Conroe ISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in the State of Texas with an average enrollment growth of approximately 1,500 students per year.
