Operation Snow White

2022-11-0840:534

The Church of Scientology has been the subject of public fascination, government investigations, movies, and books for as long as the organization has been around. But what might be less well-known is the Church’s longstanding feud with the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. After the IRS revoked the Church of Scientology’s tax exempt status in the 1960s, the Church, under L. Ron Hubbard’s leadership, launched an elaborate operation to infiltrate the US government with scientologists. A Somethin’ Else & Sony Music Entertainment production. Hi listeners, here’s a podcast we think you’ll love. It’s British Scandal, hosted by Alice Levine and Matt Forde. This season they’re telling the story of a man who maybe more than anyone else embodies the British Scandal main character – the ego, the ambition, the delusional self-belief.  We will delve into Boris’s backstory to find out what drives him. How did Boris Johnson become the man he is today? And what does it say about Britain that we helped him on his way to success – voted for him, gave him power, laughed along at his jokes – and only realised our mistake once it was too late? In 2013, beef burgers—and other products advertised as beef—that were sold across Europe were found to contain traces, and in some cases, substantial portions of horse and pig DNA. Turns out, this wasn't a labeling mistake. It was a perfect storm: a largely self-regulated industry combined with precarious economic conditions, which led to a food safety scandal that rocked the world. This incident would raise pressing questions about transparency in food labeling, and how to prevent food fraud on this scale going forward. A Somethin’ Else & Sony Music Entertainment production. Through the voices and perspectives of law enforcement, drug runners, friends, business associates and Larry Lavin himself, Wolves Among Us, Season One, The Larry Lavin Story, tells the story of Lavin’s dual life, his impact on Philadelphia culture in the late 70s and early 80s, and the stunning events that led to his capture. When Zoey Ellis lands a contract with a publisher to write a novel, she is thrilled. It's a dream come true. That is until she gets hit with accusations of plagiarism, and takedown notices are filed with all the e-book publishers. Her fantasy novel is set in the Omegaverse, a fan-created universe online populated by wolf-like creatures called Alphas, Betas and Omegas (A/B/O). The Omegaverse has its roots in erotic slash-fiction from fandoms for CW shows like Teen Wolf and Supernatural. When Pigs Can Fly

When Pigs Can Fly

2022-09-1327:022

Pigs on planes? Snakes in stores? Alpacas in pharmacies? Most are emotional support animals (ESAs). And the demand for ESAs has grown considerably over the last few years, giving rise to a certification factory—all you need is the internet and some cash, and you can get a letter from a therapist designating your pet as an ESA. How has the rise in ESA certifications complicated the landscape for the folks who need Service Animals (SAs)? How should psychologists approach the growing demand from their clients to certify their pets? And how do we, as a society, establish reasonable guidelines when it comes to the question of where animal companions can or can’t go? A Somethin’ Else & Sony Music Entertainment production. Anyone growing up in the US in the 90s probably remembers hearing about how important it was to recycle.  By the early 1990s, the US’s landfills were overcrowded with plastic waste, and local governments were talking about banning certain types altogether. That is, until we all started working together to reduce, reuse and recycle. A years-long ad campaign taught us how to recycle, what to recycle and that why we should all do our part by recycling. The only catch? It was a multi-million dollar idea that didn’t deliver. Funded largely by plastic and oil companies. And 30 years later, most of your plastics aren’t being recycled – and end up in places that may surprise you. A Somethin’ Else & Sony Music Entertainment production. it's easy to forget that video games are just harmless fun to some, but a serious escape for others. unfortunately for some people the game is the only thing they have control over in life, so it becomes more than a game. in that context, cheating, when there are no obvious material gains, makes a lot more sense: it's not just bc they want to win. it's bc they can't stand losing in the virtual world the same way they're losing in this one. like... imagine finally finding a place where you feel safe, like your choices and wishes matter, where people accept you and want you to be a part of their group, or just hang out and watch you play (guilds, teams, clans, streaming fans, etc). then imagine getting completely pwned there too, bc you just can't keep up or git good like they can. maybe it's a loot box pay to win mess and you're poor; maybe you just can't afford to spend hours grinding to get better; maybe you just don't have the same knack as everybody else. but you can't keep up, and if you don't, all your co-players, all your friends, all that acceptance, are gone, and there's nothing in the real world to replace them... hell yeah you'd cheat. everybody else just sees a game they're not good at; you see another world you don't belong in, and this one you paid to get into.

Disgusting but sadly unsurprising. Money & profit taking precedence over a player's long term health is a practice not confined only to American football.

Interesting mix of true crime stories all presented with a large dose of humanity in a nonjudgmental & straightforward way. Great selection of modern day crimes & even when the topic is familiar I often discover something new or a unique perspective as I listen.

You might be mistaken assuming the Chinese communist government is the legitimate party to take back art that they never owned. They are not returning the art to the families of the artists. Taiwan is the continuation of the government that originally had much of the art, not the new communist government.

I really want to listen to the podcast about Britain Colonialism but the ad is so poorly produced I have no idea what the name is. Pro Tip: say, "And the name of the podcast is..." With such poor production of their ad I don't trust them to produce an informative cast so I couldn't be bothered to look figure it out.

While there are many different aspects of an individual's identity, political identity refers to only the aspects of an overarching identity that are political, such as beliefs about what a “good society” means or how much government regulation is appropriate. https://www.skylightpaycard.online/

to be honest anyone with half a clue knew exactly what was going on, Heffner's 'business' was pornography which always means the abuse of vulnerable, naive women or just plain old exploitation, all of his activities pretty much come down to lipstick on a pig, that there were plenty of male celebrities willing to pretend that that was not the case only shored up a hollow fantasy of sophisticated men & women supposedly on an equal basis enjoying sexual freedom, when they knew damn well all the control was in the hands of those with the money, those being men of course, the sex industry dressed up in high heels and a fur coat is still is still exploitation, hookers, abuse and sleeze, Heffner never fooled me and still revolts and disgusts me
