After a brief hiatus we are back in time for summer. My fellow San Diego native Bradley Klahn and I met up in Santa Monica to talk about his career, his "why", responding to adversity, technology in tennis, and so much more.
The season is young and more fresh faces are making moves on tour. After hosting all week in Dallas, Blair Henley stops by to talk about the Dallas Open, her career in tennis media, her playing career at Rice, and more.
Kayla Day stops by to talk about what she has dealt with in the last few years, how she has grown as a person, what a player looks for in a coach, and where she likes to grab a cup of coffee.
2023 is upon us and a new year brings new faces onto the scene, familiar ones trying to guard their turn, and a whole host of possibilities for everyone on tour. Aus Open usually gives us an idea of who did the work in the offseason as well as who is ready for prime time. Former Major League Baseball All-Star and current LA Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior stops by to talk about his background in tennis, what he has learned both from his experience as one of the best pitchers in baseball and from observing elite performers in his role as a coach, how Spring Training is similar to the beginning of tennis season, and more.
SQ stops by to talk about his life on tour, how sometimes you need to skip food and your cool down and go see Taylor Swift, and how he plans to disrupt the pickle ball world.
Talking Asia, being in Japan with North Korea shooting missiles overhead, the massive womens event in San Diego right now and my places to go while you're there, and a great chat with Chris Eubanks. We chop it up talking challengers, why its so hard to win at this level, the nuances of conditions week to week, his routines on the road, and more.
Its US Open time and we are in NYC! Covering places I like to eat, first week storylines, and under the radar stuff like qualifying and juniors to keep an eye on. And then Will Blumberg and I sit down in Ashe Stadium and chop it up. He talks about his young career, transitioning from college to the pros, watching his peers break through, and more.
We are in Cincinnati this week for the Masters 1000 event. Eric Butorac joins Check the Marc as we do it live from the Players Lounge. We chat about some of the energy around Cincinnati this year, why its helpful to have been a player when you run a tournament, playing such significant roles in two major tournaments (Eric has a major role at the US Open as well), and a lot more! I also go over conditions in Cincy- balls, court speed, etc.
Check the Marc is on the ground in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur this week, one of the best stops on the ATP calendar. We talk playing conditions, balls, and the extreme heat at Cabo and DC. Barry Buss stops by to talk about his new book "You Can Get There From Here" - his life story from the early days of his junior tennis career, navigating undiagnosed bipolar disorder, dealing with addiction, and everything in between. We discuss the pressure cooker of junior tennis, what he has learned about himself, and the reception his book has received, as well as some exciting things on the horizon for him.
1The US Open Series is underway with the men in Atlanta and we go over the conditions at the John Isner Open. Also go over a couple young Americans making moves under the radar. Then Genie Bouchard stops by to give an update on her comeback from shoulder surgery, the 2nd Annual Pizza w/Genie in NYC, the ESPYS, Title Ix, and more!
Marc wraps up the second week results at Wimbledon and then Laura Robson stops by to talk Wimbledon, what its like with all eyes on you playing at home, doing TV now, paddle vs pickle, the Wimbledon locker rooms, and more! And we brush up on her US Open trivia!
It is #GrassSzn and we are in London at Queen's Club! My first time at the Queen's Club and I am all set up in my Wimbledon apartment. Alison Riske stops by to chat and we talk about her early success on grass, how her perspective as changed as she has spent more time on tour, and more!

We are in Paris a week early and its time to prepare for Roland Garros. Its been a hot one so we go over the conditions and what they mean for play. Also a little reality check for Marc and some perspective - a reminder of how lucky we are. Great chat then with ATP coach Brian Garber, here in Paris for the first time.

Houston and Charleston make their case as the premier single-gender events in the United States. We are in Miami! Touching on Indian Wells, Ash Barty, player conduct, and a talk with Denis Kudla about his last two weeks that included a title at the Phoenix 125 and a red-eye to Miami to play his first round qualis later that day.
New event in Dallas looks like it will be keeper. Brian Koppelman, co-creator of Billions and co-writer of movies like Rounders and Oceans 13, stops by to talk about his tennis game, what its like to look at yourself in the mirror and retake control of your career, and keeps me at bay as I try to find out if Mike Prince in Billions was a Showtime Lakers guy like me! Also look out for his new project, Super Pumped, the story of Uber, which premieres on Feb 26 on Showtime.
