Chill Pills Radio: chillradio.uppmixes.com Instagram: instagram.com/upliftingpills "When everything has left you, You are alone When you left everything behind that’s solitude." These words, sampled from Schiller’s classic track Solitude, really sum up what this mix is all about. Being in a temporary solitude is not like choosing to be lonely and isolated. It’s a wonderful state of disconnecting from the stress and strains of today’s fast-paced environment and focusing your energy on your well-being and things that truly matter to you. Chill Pills Radio: chillradio.uppmixes.com Podcast: chillpodcast.uppmixes.com Instagram: instagram.com/upliftingpills When curating and crafting a mix, sometimes two songs don't just mix well together; with some thoughtful arrangement, they are meant to be played together. In this mix, released 6 years ago under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton, you will hear two mashups I made of songs that are match-made in heaven. First, Allie Moss's Wait It Out is sandwiched between two great instrumental tracks by Ólafur Arnalds and Secret Garden. Second, Erothyme and Bliss's respective songs about gratitude combine for an amplified message. I also have great news: Chill Pills Radio, a 24/7 online ad-free station, is now available on any Alexa or Google Assistant-enabled device or smart speaker. Chill Pills Radio: chillradio.uppmixes.com Podcast: chillpodcast.uppmixes.com Instagram: instagram.com/upliftingpills Back in 2015, this mix premiered my residency on Frisky Radio's CHILL channel, under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton. I had previously submitted a promo guest mix and they loved it enough to invite me to join their DJ roster. It was a big step for me and important validation of the image in which I sought to sculpt my chillout mixes, known as Unwind back then. Their press release put this eloquently: DJ Seroton believes in music with meaning, and his mixes are a reflection of the care and effort that he puts into sharing that feeling with others.  Filled with uplifting melodies, emotional connections, and complimentary energies, DJ Seroton’s love for the music comes through in his deep and thoughtful mixes. With a passion for chillout, ambient, and trance, he loves to create an enlightening sound that carries a message and elevates all those who listen. Through careful selection and passionate dedication, he connects every beat and every lyric to a purposeful message that creates deep and lasting effects. DJ Seroton’s new show Unwind will be a welcome addition FRISKY Chill stream and its exceptional chillout and ambient roster. His music will be complementary yet unique, a quality that he always tries to bring out in his sets. His diverse and eclectic sound can be heard in his popular Chillout Sundays guest mix, where each track plays an important place in the complete package. Hope you enjoy this episode. Long time listeners of this show know that I favor heartfelt, melodic and emotionally-captivating music in my mixes, but every now and then I have my excursions into something purely fun and playful. Case in point this mix. It was featured on Guido's Lounge Café on Mixcloud (big thanks to my friend Guido for hosting it) and it reached #1 in global chillout, lounge and downtempo charts: https://www.mixcloud.com/Jazzmo/guidos-lounge-cafe-uplifting-pills-the-silencer-guest-mix-by-alaeddin/ It has the most interesting opening number of any Chill Pill that I did! Chill Pills Radio: chillradio.uppmixes.com Podcast: chillpodcast.uppmixes.com Instagram: instagram.com/upliftingpills This year marks 10 years since I started producing professional music mixes, and this was my very first mix, released under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton. Before this mix, I got my first taste of chillout and ambient music when I stumbled on DJ River‘s catalogue of mixes, as well as MDB's Beautiful Voices mixes. I completely fell in love with them and the genre as a whole. There was something magical about a free-flowing mix where carefully curated songs perfectly blended in to create something, a feeling, that's bigger than the sum of the individual songs. Here's to the next 10 years of mixing and beyond. Just like these artists that inspired me, I remain committed to pushing the artform of mixing further as I bring you more of positive, uplifting music that delivers a dose of happiness with every listen. Chill Pills Radio: chillradio.uppmixes.com Podcast: chillpodcast.uppmixes.com  Instagram: instagram.com/upliftingpills This mix is inspired by the Epic45 track The Future Is Blinding and is themed around feeling content with what we have and finding happiness within. We get stuck in a vicious cycle of desperately wanting something that we think will make us happy, and pursuing it tirelessly in the hopes of attaining it. Once and if we do, and after we've adapted to it, the cycle starts again with something else that keeps us on our toes, forgetting to cherish the good life we already have. “Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” ― Lao Tzu Hope you enjoy this episode. Making this mix was a labor of love . "The greatest tribute to the dead is not grief, but gratitude," Thornton Wilder once wrote. Two months in, my grief for losing my best friend Chris is still ever-present. Nevertheless, realizing that painful separation was always going to be an inevitable price for attachment, I started attempting to derail the train of sorrow onto the path of gratitude. Chris's arrival and presence in my life sparked countless joyful moments. He got me through difficult times, not by doing anything extraordinary, but by just being there. He was an inspiration too. You're here listening to this show because Chris was there at the beginning with me in 2016, brainstorming how I might go about creating and branding it. For all of these things and everything else, I made this mix to say: thank you for all of it Chris! For the ups and downs, for the highs and lows, for the sights and sounds, for the inspiration to be all I can be, for believing in me and pushing me to realize my potential. And... I even tucked in here your favorite song: "When She Loved Me". They played it at your funeral's closing ceremony. I will always remember how the last piano note of this song and subsequent silence made me feel then: like it was curtains closing on our lives together. But now I realize it was the beginning of my journey to find you again, through sheer gratitude for our time together. Making this mix was a labor of love. On the eve of the 1st anniversary of when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, I mourn the loss of my best friend who lost his short-lived fight to it last month. I made this mix in an attempt to process my shock, my disbelief that years of talking to him every single day have been undone, and came to an indisputable irreversible end, in a matter of a week. He was my rock through thick and thin and I never imagined losing him this soon, at the young age of 36. But I also made this for all of you out there who lost a dearly beloved, be it to any cause, foreseen or sudden. Much has been written about grief, but contending with it and living in a post-traumatic shock is something no one can prepare you for. Words escape me and I find myself in whirlwind of emotions that come in unpredictable waves. Emotions like anger, denial, sorrow, disbelief and regret. I go about my day feeling numb, aimless and dejected. I'm told time is a healer, but what if I don't want to be healed? I'm scared of our memories fading into oblivion. Maybe this mix will be a solace for all of us who grieve. It has the highs and lows, the ebbs and flows, the wave of emotions that come to define our experience living with such insurmountable loss. And to Chris I whisper: Goodbye, my friend; your journey has ended. Your struggles have now begun to cease. Time to close your eyes to happy dreams And wake to eternal peace. Goodbye, my friend; I don't want to let go. We've been together many years. It's hard to see what lies ahead. It's blurry through the tears. Our two souls are forever entwined. There will always be a hollow spot. I will miss you until it becomes my time. Making this mix was a labor of love. Imagine

Imagine

2021-01-1658:033

This mix is dedicated to all people who dream of a better world, one without the conflicts and fractions that plagued our world today.  Sometimes I like to zone out and run my imagination wild and free. I like to think that one day, somehow humans will find a way to coexist. To be able to give and take. To share this planet Earth equally and fairly among all of us, and to nourish it so that our future generations will be able to do the same. So when you’re listening to this mix, just set back, relax and imagine. Imagine you’re in a wide open green field, setting next to a tree in the early hours of the day. It’s the break of dawn and the sky above you is slowly but surely starting to light up from darkness. The clouds are clearing up and the early rays of sunshine are passing through, touching upon the grass and creating moving waves of lights. And while you’re enjoying the breeze in this peaceful atmosphere, reflect on what it feels like to live in a city of hope, a city were people loved and where kind to each other. They don’t speak the same language, have the same color or share the same religion, but they’ve found a way to embrace and accept one another, for better and worse. I released this mix 9 years ago under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton in a series called Unwind. It was one of my most popular Unwind mixes. Sensational, soulful and dreamy with influence from classical music, it was inspired by the fourth track of the same name by Gregorian. Making this mix was a labor of love. I Will Rise Up Now

I Will Rise Up Now

Happy new year everyone! This mix is inspired by a beautiful song called Love & Hate by Michael Kiwanuka, and the mix is dedicated to my brother Ahmad who recommended it when I asked him for his favorite song to make a mix around. I loved the empowering message of the song that I decided to make an uplifting mix themed around it. Let's make 2021 count! "Always on the outside, through a window looking in Never the right time, so the chance goes by again The lines begin to show, when we feel broken To move on we have to drop the pieces we're holding And no one is perfect You don't need to be strong, every single day Chase the wind again, knowing just what they'll say Don't care anymore, can't stay still anyway No one really knows along the way that the best things in life won't be, perfect anyway" From track #7 Seraphine, the Starry-Eyed Songstress Making this mix was a labor of love. My Secret Life

My Secret Life

2020-12-2001:02:201

I released this mix 9 years ago under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton in a series called Unwind.  It was inspired by the first track, In My Secret Life, by the late Leonard Cohen. It was a personal mix to some extent. The following words by Gregory L. and Brenda Person sum up how I was feeling at the time. Perhaps you can relate to it. Either way, I hope you enjoy it. It certainly brings back memories for me.  "There are so many secrets about life I will never know. I may never know what road I should have taken, the one less travelled or the one I know. There are the could haves, the maybes, should haves, never haves and must haves but will I ever know? Will I ever know for sure what life is really like? Will it be chock-full of promises or filled with disappointing doubts? Who am I? Where am I going? Will I travel down the road of life not making a single stop? Will I recognize that awkward moment when my future is in sight? I think before I bare my soul, I hold some back. Have I ever given my whole? I may not be the person you see. There is no way of knowing all the possibilities that life could be. Some of life's secrets are meant to be kept forever more." Thick As Thieves

Thick As Thieves

Most mixes I create are typically inspired by a single song that I hear and feel strongly about creating a themed mix around. This one, however, has two sources of inspiration. First, I stumbled upon the dreamy, hazy and romantic style of a band called Cigarettes After Sex (the name beats me!). They became an instant favorite and their song Falling in Love was crying out to be the star of a mix. A little after that, Hans Zimmer and co. mesmerized me in the emotionally epic soundtrack to the Netflix original film Hillbilly Elegy. This mix begins and ends with music from the soundtrack, which gives it a particularly high note to end on that I hope would leave you with a lingering sense of love and hope. Turn Back Time

Turn Back Time

2020-09-2659:573

This is a throwback mix released 5 years ago under my previous pseudonym DJ Seroton in a series called Unwind. The mix was inspired by the the 5th track (More Than Nothing), and is centered around our desire to sometimes "turn back the hands of the clock" and do something we missed out on doing. Even though the song describes a man's regret for not pursuing a relationship, I'd like to think of this idea more generically to include everything we procrastinate or never get to do that we later wish we would have done, or at least tried! Musically, this mix was by far the most time-consuming 1-hour mix I've ever created! It almost burnt me out trying to perfect all aspects of the mix, especially the first of the two mashups, track 13, which is made up of two equally amazing songs by DeYarmond Edison and All India Radio. Making this mix was a labor of love. If you feel like showing your appreciation, buy me a cup of a coffee (uppmixes.com/donate). You can also share this with your friends, rate it or leave a review. "May your dreams bring you peace in the darkness. May you always rise over the rain. May the light from above always lead you to love. May you stay in the arms of the angels." ― from the opening track Lullaby For A Soldier (Arms Of The Angels) by Maggie Siff & The Forest Rangers, taken from Sons of Anarchy soundtrack.
