Description
Ever wonder why Christians are so weird? Maybe you are a Christian and you want to explore growth in that phase of your world. We'll talk about some of the unique flaws in our Christian subculture and explore some ideas about how we change some of the flaws we're accused of and guilty of. But we're going to talk like regular people, not preachers or other clergy. Those people are great, but this is for us regular people. A conversation among neighbors. Along with a variety of other topics pertaining to the Christian world view.

I set out to discuss the importance of doctrine with Marc in this episode. What I received in this discussion was more than what I thought I'd get. While doctrine informs how we live out our relationship with God, it is only part of the dance with the Divine. It informs the depths of how we pursue a loving relationship and what's more is that it informs us how the Almighty lovingly pursues humans. This episode closes out season 2 of Christianese. I'll catch you next season. I love you.

How different is church outside the west from what we experience here in the West? Well it varies but some of the deeper concepts of what we can learn from church outside the west should really be explored as to how we can model the Christian faith better. I sat down with one of my other favorite people who had the privilege of serving people through a missions organization on a trip to Nepal. #church #nepal #missions #missionary #lukewarm #gospellife

The word Testimony, in Christian Circles, means to tell your story of God giving you a new life. Complete with Hope for Heaven but also a life full of new meaning and direction. I sat down with my brother for a conversation about his walking away from the Faith we grew up with and then walking back.

Sometimes you look at a families and wonder what it's like when no one is around. We've all heard the term 'from the mouth's of babes' as well so I thought I'd combine those and have a sit down with one of my kids to see what his perspective is on growing up in our house. #family #christian #purpose
Do I owe forgiveness to someone that's never asked for it?
Am I supposed to forgive and forget?
If I have hurt someone, what does it look like to ask for forgiveness?
Why is forgiveness important anyway?
I sat down with my friend Marc to discuss some concepts around forgiveness he's discovered after going through a divorce.

Christians have been accused of being a bunch of hypocrites for decades, or more. Is it true? I think so, but it's not the whole story. And more importantly what can we do to adjust when we are acting hypocritical?
Often in today's world we find ourselves very disconnected. Maybe it's the digitization of the world we live in. Maybe it's something else. Real deep friendships can be such a life saver when we consider the challenges of life. My "brother" Chris joins us today to discuss a bit about the value of a deep friendship.

Controversial topic today. This stems out of many years of exposure to Christian music and an observation that much of it is lame and cheesy. Note I didn't say all. But I've noticed that the songs and groups that are largely known by us lack something, especially musically, that those who aren't in the Christian branding tend to have a better grasp of that. If we're going to share the gospel through music, shouldn't it be good? Shouldn't we have the capacity to set the trend and not follow the trend? I sat down with my friend Ryan Smith, Nashville music producer, former worship pastor and lead singer in a band, to discuss it.

I went to the community and asked the question "what is a pastor?" You gave a whole bunch of responses. Then I went and asked 3 pastors to sit down with me for a little chat to ask them what a pastor is. Enjoy the conversation.

A hot button issue in the world today is an elevated amount of depression diagnosis. This episode will discuss the churchy language and culture we use can miss the mark of reality. I'm going to open up on my own struggle in this and how Christians can mistakenly judge one another for dealing with this dynamic.

Christianity is loaded to the gills with history and good and trouble and challenge. Philosophically we actually have a rich history as well. But it seems that as we've continued to philosophize we've moved away from valuing the Bible as God's Word. Today's episode welcomes back guest Joel Birch to discuss coming to conclusions on right and wrong. We discuss alcohol consumption for Christians, right and wrong, boundaries and determining and living by principles.
There are various little phrases that have deeper or subtle meaning. Many would call these cliches. And many are cliche. And yet the meanings of these little phrases often get overlooked due to the overuse or over simplification of a point. One thing that can seem like a common cliche used by Christians is "He is Risen... He is Risen indeed!" Today I take a look at the significance of Christ's resurrection and its importance in seeing fulfilled deep and true hope. Come chat with me.

Christians are odd. We are. Like it or not we have some flaws in our Christian subculture. Introducing Christianese. A podcast that is a discussion of some of these oddities and some suggestions for changing some of the flaws seen in modern Christianity. But not from a wise guy or other brilliant mind. Just from a regular fella.
When you get two old high school buddies together you run the risk of yammering on and on. Well on that, mission accomplished. I felt pretty dang good about this conversation.
Chad Wallen, founder of Advance Camp USA, a day camp for fatherless boys, is a man on a mission. One that seeks to help young boys learn about personal identity, fishing, welding, automotive and all the while DEMONSTRATING who Jesus is and that He truly cares and thinks they're rad.
True Christianity will take action and do the uncomfortable. Chad saw a need and recognized that God was talking to him, about the fatherless epidemic. He’s doing something unique and serving a very unique population.

Sometimes you meet someone and decide they should be a guest. Well a family member just met someone and decided they should be a guest on Christianese. Today I speak with a person I had never met and start to dialogue about the question 'who is Jesus' and we circled in and out of that question with various other topics included. Buckle up this is a fun one.

I'd like to continue this discussion about what Christianity is. So today I'll do a little comparison on some attributes of what a real life Christian is and compare it against things that seem to show up in our lives. Sure, we're growing past these things, or God hasn't delivered me from it, or God "didn't tell me that's for me" are things that might come to mind. I'm gonna push back on some of the things we, as a people, can get caught living in, that really are not part of our new DNA make up as a people who has been touched by the Almighty.
As always, I would encourage feedback and input and even topics. Maybe even potential guests for the discussion.

Recently someone asked me where I learn stuff from. So I thought I could share a few places that help me learn a few things. Today I take a look at a few places that are helpful for us to use our minds more as Christians. As I've said before it's important to deepen our minds as we walk this path of knowing the Almighty. In my opinion Christians should not maintain an average intelligence. We need to deepen.

Sometimes you just need to have a little fun. Today some of the voices I normally use for entertainment are "guests" on the podcast. Enjoy. While it's fun to hear me interview, kinda me there's also some decent discussion here. What does it mean to be salt? As Jesus said, His followers should be Salt to the Earth.
Let's go back to the concept of judgmental behaviors. But we'll look at it differently today. From the lyrics of a metal band, Metallica. #matthew7 #judgenot #takethelogout #metallica #everyonehasastory
Tips to get more of the actual meaning of your Bible text. Talking to churches about actually studying the Bible not just doing a little motivation that comes from what a person might want the singled out verse to mean. Dear Christians. Let's get more out of this book. Find out what it MEANS, then we can see how to APPLY it.
