A story for Halloween, written in 2014.When the unexpected Mr T arrives at his house, Sir Christopher Malpleasance does not expect an unravelling of unexpected coincidences, family secrets and grisly death. On a wintry writing 'holiday' with the author Finbar Hawkins, we took a random turn down a country road and found ourselves at Great Chalfont Manor, a 15th century manor house hidden away in the Wiltshire countryside. It seemed so self-contained and I couldn't help but think about the odd family habits that might grow in such undisturbed solitude, and what if one of those habits was murder? All the images are from Unsplash (https://unsplash.com/collections/1074...) and I should credit:Annie Spratt, Joshua Fuller, Andrew Neel, Karl Fredrickson, Bistrian Iosip, Karim Manjra, Jez Timms, Peter Oswald, Fay Lee, Headway, Stéphane Juban, Pierre Bamin, Dimitri Houtteman, Kovah, Alex Motoc, Aleksei Алексей Simonenko Симоненко, NON, Terry Vlisidis, K. A story for Halloween, written in 2013Scarred by a horrifying event in his childhood, William Connelly finds himself returning to his family home, scene of the haunting that has changed his life. Might he discover the truth behind what happened? And might he regret it when he does? Both this story and 'The Treasure' were written to accompany an interactive ghost story for what was then The SciFi Channel in the UK. They were supposed to have been written by a fictional writer, who himself had been scarred by a supernatural experience, and contain clues to the mystery in the show. A story for Halloween, written in 2012. It tells the story of a strange and secretive family and the man who tries to help them and who discovers that man's best friend might not be a dog. It was inspired by an actual experience I had while staying one summer in Sandwich on Cape Cod. Walking back from the sea along the walkway across the salt marshes, we heard a train whistle and then a blood-chilling cacophony of barking and yowling somewhere off in the dimming twilight. The next day I sat on the beach and wrote this story. I'm a real riot on holiday. A story for Halloween, written in 2020Locked down on my own in the East End of London, spending my time walking, alone, around the deserted City, I started thinking about all the ghosts who must haunt the empty buildings, and how they must be getting lonely too.I started wondering how safe it might be to be the lone living person among all these dead. And then I began to think that perhaps I had done enough walking for one day and maybe I'd better go home.Go home and, as it turned out, start writing this storyThe music is 'Thinking Music' by Kevin MacLeod, from Incompetech:https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/4522-thinking-musicSound effects from Freesound (https://freesound.org/people/redskeli... klankbeeld, Mohammad Reza Mozaffari, samwd, ChazzRavenelle, craigsmith, Nakhas, winsx87Photos from Unsplash(https://unsplash.com/collections/7202...)Mark Hang Fung So, Michelen Studios, Anne Nygård, Alex Bierwagen, Charl Folscher,Jan Romero, Annie Spratt, Rumman Amin, Egor Myznik, Étienne Godiard, Daniel van den Berg,Arturo Ruiz, Guillaume Techer, Susan Yin, Simon Rae, Roman Fox, Aj Alao, Lucas Benjamin, nrd,Morgan Vander Hart, Quinton Coetzee, Marcus Loke, Chris Greenhow, Guido Coppa, Dimitry Anikin, Sebastian Le Derout, John Cameron, Nabeel Saghir, Sebastian Pichler, Leif Niemczik, Simon Mumenthaler, Hosted on Acast. A story for Halloween, written in 2021A group of teenagers living just outside of Berlin are haunted by violent visions of Germany's past.Inspired by a holiday to Gross Glienicke just outside Berlin in 2019. We chose to stay there mostly because of the book The House by the Lake (https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-house-by-the-lake/9780099592044), about a house there that has sat at the centre of twentieth century German history. Meanwhile I was also reading James Hawes' A Shortest History of Germany (https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-shortest-history-of-germany/9781910400739). These books and a lonely bus stop on the way to Spandau collided in my head to produce visions of lost Roman legions, the cruelties of the Thirty Years War and all the horrors of modern Germany.I'm fun to go on holiday with. The music is: 'Thinking Music' by Kevin MacLeod (https://filmmusic.io/song/4522-thinking-music)Effects from Freesound (https://freesound.org/people/redskelington/bookmarks/category/148670/): craigsmith, giddster, karlis.stigis, forfie, raugdae, dobroide, cciecko, Garuda1982, mrsorbias, inchadney Hosted on Acast. This is a trailer for Christmas Stories, a seasonal podcast.Every year we write and record a Christmas story. The stories are released in 24 episodes, usually about ten to fifteen minutes long, one for every day of December up to Christmas Day, a sort of audiobook advent calendar. The stories are usually written by me, Tobias Sturt, and read by the actor Jon Millington. They're all very different: from the steam driven shenanigans of the Adventure Calendar of Mr Timothy Hope to the delightful Christmas spent in The Apartment Store by the little girl Lydia and her family and friends. But they all take Christmas seriously - or at least as seriously as it should be taken: which is both not at all and entirely too much.We have a Patreon page: https://patreon.com/christmasstoriesand a Ko-fi page: https://ko-fi.com/christmasstoriesYou can get in touch with us through our website: www.christmasstories.co.uk, where you can also find more Christmas stories. A story for Halloween, written in 2022Inspired by a visit to Porthcawl in South wales, where they really have tarmacked over the beach - although I don't know whether they have a little local god keeping the town alive (apart from my friends Will & Jo - who live there and *are* gods)The music is: 'Thinking Music' by Kevin MacLeod (https://filmmusic.io/song/4522-thinking-music)Effects from Freesound : Timbre, Julien Nicolas, NLM, Yarmonics kyles, nebulousflynn, 7778https://freesound.org/people/redskelington/bookmarks/category/166869/?page=1 Hosted on Acast. Timothy Hope, desperate to impress the beautiful but disdainful Lady Misericordia, stows away on Lord Daunt's expedition to the North Pole, and finds himself caught up in an adventure of high seas, deep crevasses, slavering wolves, reindeer sleigh rides and much, much more, with only his wits and inventiveness to keep him and his friends alive. The Adventure Calendar of Mr Timothy Hope is a seasonal story of unlikely accidents and hair-raising escapes told in 24 letters sent home by Timothy Hope as he journeys in the Arctic Circle. Featuring characters such as the unhinged big-game hunter Baronet Oxshott, the scatter-brained genius Professor Cumulus and the always inventive Timothy Hope, the story is a frequently silly, always exciting sleigh ride into the heart of Christmas itself.Written by Tobias Sturt and read by John Millington.Illustration by Amanda Gray.Music: Bedrich Smetana - Three Dances from The Bartered Bride - US Army Band, from musopen.com Hosted on Acast.
