Rumors about Buchanan's sexuality stem from his close relationship with William Rufus King, a fellow politician and diplomat. The two men lived together for over a decade and were referred to by contemporaries in terms that today might suggest a romantic relationship. While there is no definitive proof of Buchanan's sexual orientation, these speculations have led some historians and biographers to consider the possibility that he may have been gay. This week on Christories, we're talking about the JFK ASSASSINATION!!! 🙌 The assassination of President John F. Kennedy happened on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was in Texas campaigning for a second term and went on a little car ride with the governor and his wifey Jackie- O. He was riding in an open-top convertible through Dealey Plaza, Kennedy was shot by a sniper. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder but was killed by nightclub owner Jack Ruby before he could stand trial. The event led to numerous conspiracy theories and remains a subject of extensive investigation and debate. Several conspiracy theories surround JFK's assassination. Some suggest multiple gunmen were involved, while others believe the CIA orchestrated the murder. Another theory claims the Mafia killed Kennedy in retaliation for his administration's crackdown on organized crime. There are also ideas that Soviet or Cuban agents were behind the assassination, and some propose that insiders within the U.S. government conspired against him. His short reign was notorious for sex scandals and religious controversy. He was known to have many parties, and at one point have a relationship with his chariot driver Hierocles. Elagabalus would beautify himself with cosmetics, makeup and wigs, and liked to be called Hierocles’s mistress, wife and queen. Real quick backstory: Born in 203 AD in Syria, he became emperor at 14 after the assassination of his cousin, Caracalla. Elagabalus is well known for his eccentricities, including promoting the worship of the Syrian sun god Elagabal, which sparked controversy in Rome. His reign was marked by religious innovation, scandalous behavior, and political instability. That first winter was BRUTAL! But they figured things out with Squanto. The first Thanksgiving in North America took place in 1621, when English Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans came together to celebrate a successful harvest. The Pilgrims, who had settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Wampanoag shared a feast that included wild game, seafood, and crops like corn and squash. It was a symbol of cooperation and goodwill between the two groups, though the historical details are somewhat limited. This week on Christories, we're talking about JULIUS CAESAR! We got the HILARIOUS Mike Cannon  joining us and learning with us🙌 So, CAESAR, your favorite SALAD, was a Roman general, statesman, and dictator who played a significant role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He was born in 100 BCE and rose to prominence through his military exploits and political maneuvering. In 49 BCE, he famously crossed the Rubicon River with his army, leading to a civil war and eventually his appointment as dictator. His rule marked a turning point in Roman history, as he implemented various reforms and policies. However, his growing power and popularity led to his assassination on the Ides of March in 44 BCE. His death contributed to a period of instability in Rome but also set the stage for the rise of his nephew and adopted son, Octavian, who later became the first Roman Emperor, known as Augustus. This week on Christories, we're talking about the APOLLO 13 AND TOM HANKS TELLING "HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!" It's the 1960's and JFK wants up to get a man on the moon Baby! We were fighting Russia to get to the moon BAD. Apollo 13 was the seventh crewed mission in NASA's Apollo space program and was intended to be the third mission to land on the Moon. However, it is best known for its dramatic turn of events. Launched on April 11, 1970, the mission suffered an oxygen tank explosion two days later, forcing the crew to abort their lunar landing and focus on returning safely to Earth. Through ingenuity and teamwork, the astronauts, James Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise, managed to overcome life-threatening challenges and safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970. But who is going to win?! Edison supported direct current (DC) for sending electricity, while Tesla backed alternating current (AC). Edison believed DC was safer and tried to show that AC was dangerous by shocking animals in public demonstrations. Tesla, working with George Westinghouse, promoted AC because it could send electricity over long distances more efficiently. In the end, AC's ability to transmit power over greater distances won, thanks to Tesla's innovations. It commemorates the end of slavery and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that all slaves were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a day of reflection, celebration of African American heritage, and a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality. In 2021, it became a federal holiday, signifying its significance in American history. This week Chris is telling you the history about THE BATTLE OF BROOKLYN!! We’re talking my favorite wooden tooth Homie, who was a short king that led a victorious battle in my favorite island,   Remember, we’re the 13 Colonies and we got King George the 3rd telling us what’s happening, what’s good. We go to war with against the French, and we win it! But we’re in debt which causes a King Georgie number 3 to raise the taxes. We don’t know why we got to be taxed so we start a war!  The revolutionary war starts and we fight the British for freedom babes! One of Chrissy’s favorite battles was the Battle of Brooklyn! This was the first major battle of the war after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The battle took place in what is now the borough of Brooklyn in NYC, and pitted the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, against the British Army, led by General William Howe. The battle began with a surprise attack by the British on the American positions, which were poorly defended. The British were able to outflank the Americans and force them to retreat to their main fortifications on Brooklyn Heights. Despite heavy losses, the Americans were able to hold their position and repel several British assaults. The American defense collapsed, and the Continental Army was forced to retreat across the East River .. thank god there was some FOG!!  Shout out George W for being a badass leader! We may have lost the greatest land in the whole world for a brief time to the British and lost the battle, but we didn’t lose men! This week Christories is about the Battle of DUNKIRK! We’re talking Nazi Germany vs. the French & British, lightning warfare, and how the good guys jumped on some fishing boats to escape the crystal meth NAzis!  – the Battle of Dunkirk! Nazi Germany was on the rise after WWI where they got screwed over by the Treaty of Versalles and they decided to expand their territories to win some money back. World War II starts and we got Axis vs Allies. We’re not even a year into the war and Germany launches a Blitzkrieg in May of 1940 invading Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. Blitzkrieg is German for “Lightning War”  War in France starts and there are about 338,000 French🇫🇷, British🇬🇧 ,Belgian🇧🇪, and Canadian🇨🇦 soldiers gathered and the Germans are attacking them all! Winston Churchill starts bugging out on the French leaders and says we need don’t know.  British Forces planned to get the boys out from Dunkirk to England Now, thousands of British and French troops sat on the beaches waiting for a rescue attempt.
