This final week of July we take the chance to talk about what advocating for those immediately around us looks like. Holly—a friend of Sara’s and the CLR Podcast—talks to us about what those little changes look like, and the way that we can be advocates in the every day and mundane. In our everyday life we encounter countless spaces that we take for granted—spaces that have been created to foster and allow access to disabled folks in our communities. However, sometimes these creations—elevators, ramps, closed captioning—don’t go far enough. We’re having some hard conversations and taking a deep look inward as we talk about disability and the ways our society is ableist. We’ve also got a question for you: if you are still staying home—be it from work, school, church or wherever—shoot us an email telling us why. We want to know why, and especially if it pertains to the ways that our institutions are built to work against folks with disabilities. If you’ve been around churches long enough, you’ve probably been part of a sort-of “college course” that is taught out of a book and gives a lot of actually really good practices for personal finances. These practices are given as baby steps that you can work through on your way to being financially “liberated,” but unfortunately the real world doesn’t usually work out the way this “course” prescribes. Stick with us as we go through and talk about why these steps are unrealistic, and some things we can do TODAY to take back control of our finances!Be sure to give us five stars and recommend us to your friends!Follow us to keep up to date on what’s going on in our world!Twitter.com/TheCLRPodcastInstagram.com/TheCLRPodcastFacebook.com/TheCLRPodcastEmail us with any questions or comments, or to ask for resources we mention in this week’s episode: TheCLRPodcast@gmail.comHosts:—Darren Calhouninstagram.com/heydarrendarrencalhoun.com—Kevin Coronadoinstagram.com/kev.coronadotwitter.com/kevcoronado92kevincoronado.com—Stacy Henderlong—Sara Nichole—Mixing and editing by Kevin Coronado.—Music provided by The ManyLearn more about them here:Website - https://www.themanyarehere.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/themanyarehereFacebook/Instagram/Twitter - @themanyarehereChurch Resources website - https://www.pluralguild.comGet music by The Many:Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2ZpUGMGiTunes/Apple Music: https://apple.co/3cR0AKCWebsite: https://pluralguild.com/music or https://themanyarehere.com/music
CW: language, descriptions of violence and abuse of power. We’re taking some time out of our regular schedule to talk about the state of things in America. We talk about police, guns, race and even fashion this week. This episode is also being presented in its raw state—no editing has been done to take out pauses, silences or other “distractions” that are usually taken out for ease of listening.
