Description

Originally conceived by veteran heshers "Metal" Ron and Gerald "Rattlehead" in 1985, Powerchord is Vancouver's longest running metal show! And the torch is still burning with contemporary hosts Coleman, Serena, Chris, Justin, and Ian, covering all sub-genres across the harsh landscape of heavy metal. New releases, local bands, the obscure, the classic, and everything in-between.
Two hours of absolute brutality every Saturday from 1-3pm.

Crank up another set of devastation with Ian on today's episode of Powerchord! Get ready for twisted black metal mutations from Marthe, Thantifaxath, Ceremonial Bloodbath and local legends Blasphemy! We'll also worship at the filth-encrusted altar of the old gods with classic death metal from tyrants like Cryptopsy, Deicide, Gorguts and Cannibal Corpse! The second half of the show will feature ripping thrash from speed demons like Nervosa, Power Trip, Warbringer and Toxic Holocaust, plus we'll dig a classic track from Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy out of The Graveyard! Light it up, rattleheads!
Ferris back in the studio, somewhat less fucking up than usual. Exploiting the hard work of local musicians takes up 3/4 of the show, showcasing a genre diversity not ordinarily heard on the program (read: not exclusively deathmetal). Includes a fruit-filled section on new and up-coming local acts. Highlights on The Invisible Orange 15th anniversary gigs, and some other shit you need to know. There will be a test.

Ian's back with a slate of savagery from all over the world of metal on today's show! We'll start with a taste of experimental noise composer Ben Frost's stunning new record Scope Neglect, then move into a decimating set of grindcore, highlighted by heavy hitters Escuela Grind, Pig Destroyer and Brutal Truth, plus a classic from Swedish grind legends Nasum. We'll also survey some of the best in the world of death metal with rippers from Slimelord, Tomb Mold and Vastum, while hyping next Saturday's March 30th show at the Rickshaw featuring Wake and Egregore! We'll also get into some new bandgers from traditional heavy metal masters with rippers from Judas Priest, Cirith Ungol and Haunt, and dig a classic track from Saxon out of the Graveyard!

Coleman on deck with the usual fare of gig highlights (Dying Remains, Wake and Great Falls, Dipygus and Anthropophagous, Suicide Pact prairie tour), new jams from High on Fire, Iron Curtain, Owl and more; an anniversary, and of course plenty of semi-coherent rambling. All things heavy and harsh, as they should be. Enjoy :)
The world needs Weird

The world needs Weird

Shits weird so should be our music. Melvins and the Gentle Art of Cooking Humans get us there and then we are shot out in to space with Aawks, Kal-el Low Orbit and Acid King. then we are ready for the doom and heavy to take us out of here.
Come along for a wild ride where Ferris' insistence on not preparing for the show humiliates and embarrasses him and his whole family. Stick around for the blistering playlist of caustic noise and sinistral expressions.

We'll also preview this year's Modified Ghost lineup with tracks from Fu Manchu, Heavy Trip, Truent and Dying Fetu, and we'll also dig a classic track from Canadian death metal legends Kataklysm out of The Graveyard. Let's jam!!!

Sonic Demon rips in from Italy and then we are back out east with Witchrot, Seum, Lüger. cant forget Spell, Crystal Coffin and the Brand new Fearbirds.

Ferris flails around in an especially cruel manner, resulting in a terrifying radio spectacle fraught with poltergeist-induced "technical difficulty". Any supernatural anomalies experienced during playback are assuredly benign.
