Here we are...ready to close out what has been a remarkable journey for us all - but mostly the three of us. We had a company meeting and came to the conclusion that this was as far as we felt we could go with this narrative. While we have loved doing this together as well as for all of our faithful listeners, we knew it was time to move on. What better way than to end with reflections on our amazing trip to Hawaii together! So this final episode will share some of that time with you but will also put a nice button on the stories we told about our beloved Whiting, Indiana. We hope you've enjoyed this time as much as we have. We thank you. We love you and look for us in another form on this platform down the road - because you know we have many more stories to share and we also don't know how to shut up - like ever. Aloha! Sally, Johnny and Shelley
WARNING!! Our producer used too much reverb on the first part of this episode and she says she is so so sorry!! Your favorite hosts are back with a crunchy discussion on July 4th of 2022 and how they are feeling about celebrating America with recent happenings within the country. It certainly doesn't stop them from enjoying some Cowboy Caviar and tortilla chips! We learn a lot this week about Johnny and Sally's love for encased meats - in case you weren't aware and that Johnny loves "a good roman candle (that's not a euphemism).  this podcast is educational, if you didn't know - our hosts remind our listeners that while fireworks may be pretty to look at, they are harmful not just to our beloved pets, but to bee's and even fish! Cowboy Caviar recipe is posted on our instagram page - or message us and we will send it to you! We appreciate you Gentle Readers and thank you for sticking with us! Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and please leave us GR mail on the Anchor app or email us at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com
What can we say that isn't said during this episode - other than, WE ARE BACK! Yep - we were away for a bit doing life stuff and we apologize for our awayness but we are here again whether you like it or not! This week you hosts, Sally and Johnny, discuss their favorite fashions from the 70's and 80's - shoes, hats, clothing of choice and bags (of which both of them have an abundance of).  There is the usual tangent about John's mothers hairstyle of choice, sex education stuff and many other off topic discussions that you've come to expect as fans of this podcast. We want to hear from you! What fashion did you sport during your growing up years that you'd rather not ever be caught wearing again BUT the big question is - does Holly still have those socks her mother bought her in D.C? A must know! send us your comments, questions, concerns and all manners of communication via the Anchor app or to any of our social media accounts - Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! We love hearing from you! Thanks for sticking with us and enjoy the stroll down the fashion runway of John and Salls. cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com
Boy oh boy - when our hosts record at night there is more guffaws and hilarity than anyone can handle! Sally and Johnny reminisce about popular bands and singers from the 70's and 80's with some flavoring from the 60's. We hear about the best place to purchase albums - Hegewisch Records, which was a long way to walk...in Whiting. Bands / Groups they saw in high school and beyond and what they are listening to today! Do you all know Dolly Partons song about Little Andy? Johnny does. Have you ever been to Paradise but you've never been to me?  Our cocktail is The Grateful Dead - delicious! The Bee Gee's - "there is no Gee without the Bee". Follow us on Instagram and Facebook - but not our website cuz we gave that up!
Here we go! Every piece of information you could ever want about our hosts favorite subject - SNACKS! John and Sally explore their memory banks for all of their favorite snacks while growing up in Whiting, Indiana and attending grade school and high school.  You'll hear about Salls mothers "douche pickles" again - because thats a favorite and the mystery of Jiffy Pop Popcorn and why it always caught on fire!  Are you a fan of snowcones? Johnny is not - too messy Our hosts found some interesting snack recipes on www.clickamerican.com - check it out for the Hot Buttered Cheerios! We are adding a new segment called: Johnny's Karb Korner - where Johnny will remind us of how many carbs are in our food each episode - it should be fun... Be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and leave us some Gentle Reader Mail via the Anchor app or email us at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com - we want to hear from you! Happy Snacking!
During this episode your hosts, Johnny and Sally take you down memory lane discussing and analyzing and guffawing about commercials from their formative years.  Cereal commercials, beer, shampoo's - all of which factored into all of our lives every single day. Even the jingles that accompanied some of those iconic commercials - we can't get them out of our heads! Our cocktail this week is what our hosts have drubbed the "Tom Collins...pretty much". A tasty treat that you'll want to make and sip along with them as you take in this weeks episode. Enjoy! and thank you for being such loyal "gentle readers" Check us out on Facebook and Instagram and be sure to listen and subscribe and review us, if possible, on your favorite podcast hosting site.
We are back for Season Four with the topics you've been waiting for - all Pop Culture, all the season long! We are thrilled to have been "renewed' and cannot wait to bring you all the musings your hosts, Sally and Johnny have to offer.  Pop Culture has been a prominent participant in both our hosts lives and they have a lot to say about it all - so put on your giant Koss headphones and give a listen to our new season. We are thrilled to be back with you! cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com Follow and comment on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter! *our website is no longer available*
In this our final episode of the season, your hosts, Johnny and Sally and the occasional Viola, bring you memories of New Years celebrations of yore as well as their usual tangents into topics completely unrelated to the subject matter - but that's why we love them right? Right? One favorite moment is John's recollection of his brief foray into an original ZOOM (not the one's you participated in for over a year with co-workers) but the PBS show! John regales us with a brief original song from the show that we are certain you will all love and be singing long after you hear this podcast. John and Salls also decide who they would invite to their last NYE dinner - Dead or Alive and there are some surprises! Who would you invite? We can't wait to bring you our next season - WE'VE BEEN RENEWED - so look for us in March with Season Four of your favorite podcast and ours. Don't forget to check us out on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter - Have a wonderful New Year dear Gentle Readers - we love you!
Our official holiday episode! Your hosts, Johnny and Sally reminisce about their favorite gifts, childhood and otherwise, but mostly childhood...such as The Titanic Game! Ever heard of it? Our featured cocktail, by our resident bartender Sally, is a type of mudslide - one that John has never intentionally had previously! We are calling it "The Intentional Mudslide".  We also learn the fact that while everyone in the 60's and 70's may have smoked, John's parents did not! No "smoky curtain" for them! Also - Sally wants to talk about Southlake Mall - but then doesn't.  Thank you for continuing to be our devoted listeners - we appreciate all of you! We here at Cigarettes, Tab and Tampons wish you a wonderful holiday season and we will see you with another episode after Christmas! cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com / cigarettestabandtampons.com
Our hosts in this episode take you down a familiar path of recalling milestone birthdays they've had or experienced with other family members. Do you recall when you're parents turned 50 or 60?  This and other birthdays and milestones are discussed and marinated over a new cocktail (that we actually really liked!). Check out pictures and memories on our website - cigarettestabandtampons.com or follow us on Facebook (soon to be Meta or whatever MZ is calling it), Instagram and Twitter! Email us at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com - we really want to hear from you!  Also - if you enjoy this podcast - tell your friends about us! Come on - no seriously...
First off - apologies for the lateness in getting this episode to you but nevertheless - here it is! Episode Six gives us all the information you'll ever need about weddings but specifically, weddings in Whiting! We are also asking for our Gentle Readers to send us their own favorite wedding photo memory (which as a reminder will also give us permission to post it on our website...). We would love to see your memories! Our cocktail is one that your host Sally threw together at the last moment and ended up being more bitter than any of us expected. Usually we recommend one of Sallys cocktails - this time...not so much (but we still love her!) This episode lets you, our GR's know that John is available for weddings and could also do your flowers so hit him up at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com if you need a officiant or a florist. He's cheap (shhhhhh, don't tell him we said that). Be sure to check out our Instagram, Facebook and our website at cigarettestabandtampons.com
TRIGGER WARNING! Due to circumstances beyond our control - aka the Amazon Truck - there are moments during this podcast when two dogs we know and love could not help themselves and had to bark at every noise, including an Amazon delivery. We apologize for their barking but - they are dogs. Todays episode gifted us with our most frequent Gentle Reader contributor and sister friend, Becca Poulos! Becks talks us through her time growing up in Whiting and the family events she and Sally shared together over the years. We hear about their last visit together to their alma mater, George Rogers Clark HS which has closed and will sadly be demolished.  Cocktail time is a lovely surprise as our hosts, guest and others imbibe in a lovely wine that made them all exclaim "oooooo - that's good!" Be sure to check out photos on our website www.cigarettestabandtampons.com and check us out as well on the Facebook, Instagram and the Twitter.  Email us with your input, question and concerns for our safety at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com
Episode Four brings us to the inevitable subject of FOOD!  We learn even more about our hosts and the food growing up in their own households as well as in the beautiful City of Whiting, IN. You'll hear about Tuna Burgers on stale buns - that cheesy potatoes were only served for Easter - and that the Buranosky family was vinegar based. Our featured cocktail is a lovely gin based punch with some splashes of lime and lemon and was DELICIOUS! We would love to hear about your family foods! Please email us at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com or leave us a voice mail on the Anchor app. But be sure to check out recipes and pictures on our website - cigarettestabandtampons.com Follow us on Facebook - Instagram and Twitter
This week your hosts go on and on about their vacations over the years - the fancy ones, the not so fancy ones, the childhood ones and all others in-between. Was Santas Village a big part of your growing up? How about The Enchanted Forest or even Kennywood in Pittsburgh! Your hosts have experienced all of those places and give us the scoop on what made them great.  This weeks cocktail is a simple yet tasty one - Riesling and Sparkling Italian Soda - easy peasy or Sally just got lazy - you decide. Be sure to reach out to us on either the Anchor app or at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com and check out more on our website, www.cigarettestabandtampons.com Thank you Gentle Readers!
Its the episode you've been waiting for! PIEROGIFEST in Whiting, Indiana! The very popular and highly caloric celebration of the pierogi and all things Eastern European! Our roving reporter, John B., attends Pierogifest on an extremely hot Sunday afternoon in Whiting and is joined by friends and Pierogifest professionals Linda, Jama Kay and Larry to talk all things pierogifest! A delicious signature cocktail is shared on Linda's porch while the festival swirls around our foursome! John also talks to one of our Gentle Readers, Betty Jo about her and her husbands booth of historic wares. You can find them at www.turnerhousemedia.com We hope you enjoy an afternoon at Pierogifest in Whiting and who knows, maybe we will see you there next year! Welcome back to Cigarettes,Tab and Tampons! We are so thrilled you have chosen to stick with us during our brief but necessary break.  Your hosts, John and Sally are back as is their producer, Shelley to bring you some thoughts coming out of the Covid19 Pandemic year. Words we never want to hear again are "Unprecedented" and "historic" and "Pandemic" but here we are. Today's episode focuses on how our hosts and their loved ones "celebrated" during the pandemic. How did weddings in their world get pulled off? Birthdays - gatherings - you get it. We are adding a new segment to our podcast with a cocktail element - a cocktail will be created and shared with you each week. The recipe will be posted on our website, www.cigarettestabandtampons.com. We are calling this cocktail - "Gin and Judys"! Be sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts and email us at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com with any questions, advice, suggestions. We want to hear from you! Welcome Back!
We are back Gentle Readers! We are out of our Covid Cocoon and ready to bring you more stories of growing up, living and loving and discussions about why Carrie Fisher had an English accent in her first Star Wars.  So many things we are excited about and we can't wait to get back to it after our break.  Hope you will continue to support us and tell your friends about us and call Disney + about us! Come on already!!!! Here we go!
What can we say but a big thank you to our Gentle Readers for listening, recommending and commenting on our little podcast. Johnny and Sally wrap up Season Two with a mish mash of topics - some of which turn into tangents - SHOCKER - and put finishing touches on topics visited throughout season two.  They regale our "fans" with the funeral versions of our theme song as well as the sad sad version of "Gentle Reader Mail". All of which you will enjoy we are sure! Thank you all again - keep watching our website, Instagram, Facebook for updates and the start of Season Three - Back Together Again (we hope).  www.cigarettestabandtampons.com  Instagram: cigtabtampons Facebook: Cigarettes, Tab and Tampons Twitter: @TabTampons Email: cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com We would love to hear from you all with topic suggestions for next season - suggest away!
"When I think of home - I think of a place where there is love overflowing - I wish I was home - I wish I was back there with the things I been knowing..." Home. The places we grew up. The places we moved to when we became adults - home. This and so much more is discussed in this weeks episode.  Your hosts, Johnny and Sally begin by reminding us of the homes of their formative years and then venture into the homes they made for themselves as adults (or at least a reasonable facsimile of whatever an adult is). They will share stories of so many of the places they lived and the lives they lived there and then they regale you with another Gentle Reader Mail that may or may not go off the tracks - who remembers Grit magazine? Remember to email us any comments or questions at cigarettestabandtampons@gmail.com and visit our website at www.cigarettestabandtampons.com. We appreciate all of our gentle readers! "And we've learned that we must look inside our hearts - to find a world full of love - like yours - like me - like home..."
Christmas, Halloween, Easter, July 4th - these are some of the holidays that tended to be a big deal if you grew up in Whiting, Indiana. Not just at The Patchwork, but in the homes of our hosts, Sally and Johnny. Our hosts take you on a journey in this episode of how holidays played an important part of their friendship in their growing up years.  You'll hear about Hobo Day, a celebration of the American Hobo that took place in our public schools as well as traditions with Santa and the Easter Bunny. Gentle Reader Mail, our newest feature. offers you, our Gentle Readers, even more reasons to write in often or leave us voice messages - we love our Gentle Readers! If we are lucky, maybe Bobo the Clown will make another appearance some day - we can only dream...was he a creepy clown or entertaining? God only knows... Check out our website at www.cigarettestabandtampons.com and our Facebook and Instagram pages - invite your friends to listen but mostly, thank you for being loyal gentle readers!
