Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. The film’s meticulously restored picture and sound, under the supervision of American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures, includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues. The resulting project reflects author Mario Puzo and Coppola’s original intentions of The Godfather: Part III, and delivers, in the words of Coppola, “a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II.” NEW PODCAST EVERY MONDAY & FRIDAY Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more content: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheBlah95  Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=8580945 Twitter: https://twitter.com/CineRanter Learn more about your ad choices. Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 Best Picture winning masterpiece The Godfather is widely considered to be one of the greatest, if not THE greatest film of all time. The Italian American crime drama stars what today is considered an all star ensemble cast, including the likes of Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, James Caan and Talia Shire. Of course, many of the actors in the film who became A listers were up and coming at the time of the film’s release. The one actor who had by far and away the greatest cloud and the biggest A lister in the film was of course Marlon Brando, widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time and a pioneer of method acting. Brando won an Oscar for his portrayal as Don Corleone in The Godfather, but did not return for the sequel The Godfather: Part II. It may surprise you to learn that Brando was in fact supposed to be in the film, so why was he not? State of Grace is a 1990 American neo-noir crime film directed by Phil Joanou and starring Sean Penn, Ed Harris and Gary Oldman, also featuring Robin Wright, John Turturro, and John C. Reilly. Written by playwright Dennis McIntyre, the film was executive-produced by Ned Dowd, Randy Ostrow, and Ron Rotholz, with a musical score by Ennio Morricone. Although the film was not a box office success and its release overshadowed by that of the similarly-themed Goodfellas, it was received positively by most critics. Shot on location in New York City, the film was inspired by the real-life Hell's Kitchen gang the Westies. Coincidentally, Penn was strongly considered for the lead role of Henry Hill in Goodfellas before he starred in this film. A New York cop is recruited to return to his hometown and infiltrate the mob ran by his best friend's brother. Gone for a decade, Terry Noonan (Sean Penn) is welcomed back into the fold in his Irish-American neighborhood in New York City. A one-time street tough, Terry is now an undercover officer targeting crime boss Frankie Flannery (Ed Harris). In the name of duty, Terry rekindles his dormant friendship with Frankie's younger brother, Jackie (Gary Oldman). But as Terry gets closer to his goal, his feelings for the youngest Flannery, his old flame Kathleen (Robin Wright), complicate his mission. It remains one of the most controversial and talked-about endings in the history of television. Some people loved it, others despised it, but the debate still remains, what happened to Tony Soprano at the end of The Sopranos? Did he or didn’t he die? In an episode directed by Sopranos creator himself David Chase, Tony sits with his family at a Holsten’s ice cream parlour for some onion rings and listens to Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing , his daughter Meadow struggles to park her car outside to join her family, and a mysterious character in a members only jacket passes Tony on his way to the bathroom. With each jungle of the restaurant door opening, Tony glances up to take a look at who’s walked in. We can’t quite work out why, but tension is building, something is about to happen. And then, the door opens, Tony looks up, and we cut to black, just as the words of the song reach “don’t stop”. It was a revolutionary ending, the kind not seen on the small screen, to such an extent it had people checking their TVs to make sure nothing had gone wrong. So what happened – did Tony simply see his daughter walk in and enjoy a family meal for the evening? Was he shot by the members only guy, with the sight of his daughter the very last thing he sees before he dies? The question as to whether Tony died or not at the end has been hotly debated for over 10 years, and surely the definitive answer can only come from the creator of the show David Chase?
