We recently had the opportunity to vote on resolution via a Secretarial election and once again we didn't meet the quorum requirements. Despite the Election Board creating a new voting option at General Council. I suggest paying people to vote as nothing else is working. We all know the crisis the Nation is under concerning our Language. I suggest that we use AI as a means to help those people who don't live in Ho-chunk communities. AI is a tool that can help us create apps and videos and books to help propagate our language. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please contact me at [email protected]
I talk about the General Council and the total lack of content.I talk about the Kalshi lawsuit filed by the NationI talk about ridding the General Council of the "abstention"
The HCN has lost another eminent speaker and it concerns me greatly. According to figures there are only 40 first language Ho-Chunk speakers left and this doesn't bode well for the Nation. The HCN is involved in a Secretarial Election as we speak. Absentee ballots have been mailed out and are awaiting your vote and signature. This hybrid election also involves voting at General Election. This is to insure that we get the 30% participation level that we need to change the Constitution. Finally, D-1 is having a Special Election to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Rodney Rave. There are 8 registered candidates. The election takes place on Monday, the 11th of August. Good Luck to all of the candidates
I invited Jon Warner to discuss the state of the Nation's financial plans and general economics going forward from the lens of our Beloit Resort project. Cindy Tack's case before the Trial Court is explored and I listen as Jon explains his thoughts on maturing markets and financial plateauing.I discuss how it is that our Legislature focuses so much time and energy on the revenue coming in from the Casinos and yet spends almost zero time and energy focused on how we spend those funds. Shouldn't the efficacy of dollars spent be almost, if not more important than incoming funds that the Legislature has zero control of?I laud a couple of motions from Area Meetings that the Area Reps are moving forward onAny comments, questions, or thoughts please feel free to email them to [email protected]
I just have a conversation with myself and I try to understand the Ho-Chunk definitions of "Good Money" and "Bad Money". Apparently there is a difference and I'm just not sure what the difference is. I laud our unofficial partnership with Diane Hendricks as we pursue the same goal, "A Better Beloit". Though the Ho-Chunk Nation and Diane Hendricks are on opposites ends of the political spectrum, it's wonderful to see that as adults, we can put those differences aside and work for the common good. Rummor has it that we are folding our Section 17 and replacing it with a Section 16. Good for us. Everybody was tired of that 12 Clans and I'm sure, happy to see it go. Still, I would have liked to see it stay with new leadership, and not just Ho-Chunk or Waaksik leadership.
