Collateral Damage Season 2. Ep. 28. (Special Guest - Tricia Ragusa)

Full episodes available - www.cdpodcast.com Mike and Maureen meet with Tricia Ragusa, MA, MS, CARC (Certified Addiction Recovery Coach), a teacher in recovery, to discuss her journey into treatment and how she has been open about her journey and an advocate for others. From Tricia: I am a high school English as a Second Language Teacher, a single mother of four young children, a writer, and after a decade of substance abuse, I got to call myself an “addict.” I experienced the constant fear of coming forward and engaged in behaviors like hiding and lying in an attempt to ease the shame that comes along with addiction. As an educator with four beautiful children and a teaching career becoming an addict was not supposed to be a part of the plan…but it happened. Thankfully, after going to one of the best treatment centers in this country, I was able to put the substances down. And thankfully, I only had to try to get clean once. Relapse has not been a part of my story of recovery. I was able to put the pill addiction behind me. Tricia will be publishing a book about healing the inner child, and has been actively blogging about her recovery. Collateral Damage Season 2. Ep. 27. (Special Guest - Chris McGreal)

Mike and Maureen meet with Chris McGreal, a reporter for The Guardian, and author of American Overdose: The Opioid Tragedy in Three Acts to discuss the opioid epidemic and the devastating effects that it has had on our country, our communities, and the families fighting back against it. In American Fix, Chris McGreal outlines the three main stories of the opioid epidemic: first, the negligent policies that allowed the greed and corruption of big pharma to profit off the suffering of their patients and new evidence on the FDA's complicity in the matter; second, the widespread addiction that ravaged American towns and cities; and finally, the even more devastating arrival of the drug cartels who deliberately and catastrophically exploited the market for addiction that has been created. Through the lives of doctors, addicts, policy-makers, pharmaceutical reps, and family members, McGreal tells two parallel stories: that of the rise of opioids in the healthcare system and the personal stories of those affected on the ground, joined in what a former member of the FDA has called ""one of the greatest mistakes of modern medicine.""   Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, & share. ____________________________________________ Episode Resources: Podcast Produced by - www.sweetsproductions.com https://www.amazon.com/American-Overdose-Opioid-Tragedy-Three/dp/1549176927   https://www.theguardian.com/profile/chrismcgreal ____________________________________________   Michael J Wilson is the Director of Family Services and co-owner of Baystate Recovery Services and Barry's House Sober Living for men. Full episodes available - www.cdpodcast.com Mike and Maureen meet with Dan Peres, Author of - As Needed for Pain: A Memoir of Addiction, to discuss his personal journey into recovery, and the story behind the book. During his tenure, the magazine won many awards, including two National Magazine Awards. Before taking the editorship of Details, Dan spent nine years at W magazine, overseeing bureaus in Paris, London, and Milan. While in college, he worked as a copy boy at the New York Times and later as a research assistant at Esquire. He is the author of Details Men’s Style Manual. He lives in New York and has three sons". "Exactly the right book at exactly the right time... As Needed for Pain must have been difficult to write; it's difficult to read. But it's an important book. While it's just one man's testimony of his journey into and through his addiction to pain killers, it's a universal story that anyone from any background who knows the evil of opiate addiction will deeply relate to." (Augusten Burroughs, author of Running with Scissors and Dry) “This memoir exists in the realm of grace―what causes Dan Peres to take his first pill, what causes him to take his last, remains a mystery. In between there are magic and lies, mistakes and glamour, pretense and escape." (Nick Flynn, author of Another Bullshit Night in Suck City ) "With humility, humor and courage, Dan Peres’ story of pretending to be on top of the world when in fact he was hitting rock bottom is a memoir for our times. An eye-opening, enthralling read, AS NEEDED FOR PAIN is an unforgettable memoir."
