It's the College Hockey Scoreboard Show for October 1, 2024. The only game on the docket was again with the women in Boston as host Boston University picked apart Merrimack 7-1. Tamara Giaquinto scored twice and added and assist and Lola Reid had a goal and two assists. Mari Pietersen with 16 saves in net.Nothing on the schedule until Friday, when we’ve got 17 women’s games - all of them non-conference - and one men’s exhibition game. That exhibition game pits UNLV at Lindenwood. Don’t think we’ll see any of the UNLV club players bolt in the early season. As far as the women’s schedule: The nation’s new No. 1 Wisconsin travels to face Boston College, while second-ranked Minnesota hosts Boston U. In a notable top-ten matchup, third-ranked Minnesota-Duluth will take on seventh-ranked Colgate. Additionally, fourth-ranked Ohio State faces eighth-ranked St. Lawrence in another key game, while fifth-ranked Clarkson is back in Vermont this weekend to take on the host Catamounts. Elsewhere, 12th-ranked Penn State visits ninth-ranked UConn, and 15th-ranked Mercyhurst heads West to face 11th-ranked St. Cloud State. Tenth-ranked Quinnipiac plays 13th-ranked Northeastern, while other games include Assumption at New Hampshire, Bemidji State at Robert Morris, LIU at Minnesota State, Post at St. Thomas, RIT at Union, RPI at Sacred Heart, St. Anselm at Holy Cross, St. Michael’s at Providence, and Stonehill at Syracuse. October 5 is the official start of the games that count on the men’s side, Top-ranked and returning national champion Denver travels to Alaska-Anchorage, while third-ranked Boston University hosts Holy Cross. Fourth-ranked Michigan State heads up to the U.P. to face Lake Superior State, and seventh-ranked Michigan will face Minnesota State in Ann Arbor. No. 12 Maine is set to host American International, while 14th-ranked UMass will visit Bentley. No. 18 Minnesota-Duluth welcomes Bemidji State, and 20th-ranked Arizona State plays Air Force at the Academy. Other games on the schedule include Bowling Green at Mercyhurst, Canisius at Clarkson, Colgate at UConn, Miami at Ferris State, Penn State at Alaska, and RIT at St. Lawrence. Exhibition games include Augustana at fifth-ranked North Dakota, sixth-ranked Minnesota at 16th-ranked St. Cloud State, and 10th-ranked Wisconsin visiting Nebraska-Omaha. Additional exhibitions include Briercrest College - it’s somewhere in Saskatchewan - at No. 11 Colorado College, 13th-ranked Providence at Union, the U.S. National Team Development Program’s U-18 Team at 17th-ranked Western Michigan, Manitoba at St. Thomas, Northern Michigan at Michigan Tech, Sacred Heart at Merrimack, Simon Fraser at LIU, Stonehill at New Hampshire, and UNLV (ACHA) at Lindenwood. This show is new and it has a distinct reason for existing - just the scores in a quick and dirty format. It's the College Hockey Scoreboard Show for September 28, 2024. It's just the scores as you stay up late - again - watching a team from Alaska or you're up on a Sunday morning catching up on things, reading the comics. Wait, who still gets the newspaper? I do. My kids love Garfield. I still love Garfield. We'll start with the dozen games on the women's side. Top-ranked Ohio State shut out Bemidji State 3-0, evening their record at 2-2 while outshooting the Beavers 55-15, with three different players scoring for the Buckeyes. #2 Wisconsin dominated Lindenwood 8-1, with Cassie Hall and Marianne Picard each scoring two goals as the Badgers netted 20 goals across the series sweep. Third-ranked Minnesota edged ninth-ranked and host UConn 3-2 in overtime, with Abbey Murphy netting the OT winner. The Gophers had two shorthanded goals in completing the sweep. Mercyhurst pulled off an upset with a 4-3 overtime win over fourth-ranked Colgate, with Makayla Javier scoring the game-winner on a feed from Vanessa Upson. No. 5 Clarkson cruised to a 14-0 victory over St. Michael’s, led by Haley Winn’s hat trick and four assists. Tenth-ranked Quinnipiac swept Maine with a 4-0 win, as Kaley Doyle made 24 saves for back-to-back shutouts. RIT rolled over Assumption 5-0, with five different players scoring and outshooting their opponent 38-11. Boston College defeated Stonehill 5-1, with five Eagles scoring in the victory while outshooting the Skyhawks 43-18. RPI beat Holy Cross 2-0, with Andrea Trnkova scoring both goals to earn the Engineers the series split. Union topped Robert Morris 4-2 to split their series and give new head coach Tony Maci his first win leading the Garnet Chargers. Minnesota State closed out the action with a 6-2 win over Manitoba in Richmond, Minnesota - which is a town I had to look up via Google Maps. It’s in Stearns County by the way.  Syracuse’s series against seventh-ranked Minnesota-Duluth was postponed due to travel issues caused by Hurricane Helene, with the games rescheduled for January 2-3. The one game on the men’s side was yet another Alaska Test. This time it was Fairbanks’ turn to do the exhibition thing against Grand Canyon University of the ACHA. The Nanooks bested their visitors from Arizona 5-4. All Hail Spacebear! Action on Sunday is sparse with just two games scheduled as a result of that Syracuse-UMD postponement. LIU is at No. 14 Princeton while Manitoba completes its stretch through the State of Hockey with an exhibition at St. Thomas . And yes, this show is new and it has a distinct reason for existing - just the scores in a quick and dirty format. It's the College Hockey Scoreboard Show for September 27, 2024. It's just the scores as you stay up late watching Alaska Anchorage or you're up on a Saturday morning catching up on things. We'll start with the dozen games on the women's side. Top-ranked Ohio State cruised to an 8-2 victory over Bemidji State, with McKenna Webster and Jordyn Petrie each scoring two goals. The Buckeyes jumped out to a 5-0 lead and outshot the Beavers 34-10. One state over, #2 Wisconsin dominated Lindenwood 12-0, with ten different players finding the back of the net for the Badgers. In a top-10 showdown, third-ranked Minnesota went on the road and defeated #9 UConn 4-1. Abbey Murphy scored twice, including a goal just 30 seconds into the game. The Gophers outshot UConn 38-10, and head coach Brad Frost reached a milestone with his 500th career win. Frost becomes just the sixth head coach in Division I women's hockey history to accomplish the feat. #4 Colgate edged Mercyhurst 3-2, thanks to Kaia Malachino’s game-winner early in the third period. The Knight Time was the right time in Burlington, Vermont as the fifth-ranked Golden Knights of Clarkson routed the host Purple Knights of St. Michael’s 9-0, with nine different players scoring and a staggering 89-6 shot advantage. #8 St. Lawrence shut out Merrimack 3-0, with Alexia Cote netting her first collegiate goal, while tenth-ranked Quinnipiac blanked Maine 7-0 behind two goals from Maya Labad. #12 Penn State pulled off a 2-1 win over #13 Northeastern, with Maddy Christian’s short-handed goal in the second period serving as the game-winner and earn the split for the host Nittany Lions. You'd be punctilious in assuming an RIT victory on Friday. The Tigers topped Assumption 3-0, with Addie Alvarez scoring twice in the second period. Yes, that was a 90's-era dad joke. Holy Cross rallied with two third-period goals to beat RPI 3-2, and Robert Morris defeated Union 3-1. In exhibition action, St. Cloud State handled Manitoba 6-1. On the men's side, we had just one exhibition game and it was a good ol' Alaska test as Alaska Anchorage bounced Grand Canyon of the ACHA 7-1. Lord Farquaad approves.  That's your College Hockey Scoreboard for September 27, 2024. Rankings referenced are by the USCHO Coaches Polls.
