Chef James L. “J.B.” Brown, AACVeteran, Award-Winning Chef, and Advocate for Transitioning Service MembersChef James L. “J.B.” Brown, AAC, is an internationally recognized chef and a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran whose career spans more than five decades. A master of over 200 cooking styles, he began his culinary journey in Portland, Oregon, before moving to Las Vegas in 1989, where he played a key role on the opening culinary team at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, serving more than 32,000 meals daily. He later served as Executive Chef for the Sands Expo and Convention Center, overseeing large-scale events including Comdex.Over the years, Chef Brown has founded successful culinary ventures, including Catering by the Chefs Inc., and has held leadership roles within the American Culinary Federation (ACF). His accolades include induction into the prestigious American Academy of Chefs (AAC), multiple Chef of the Year honors, and national recognition for his contributions to the culinary profession. Judge Mark E. Johnson, Ret. Served as a Superior Court Judge in Riverside County. In addition to other duties, he served over the Riverside County Veterans Court.Judge Johnson was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Superior Court Judge in May 2009 and was reelected to the position in June 2010. Since his appointment, Judge Johnson has been assigned to civil, probate, felony trial, and mental health and veterans courts. Judge Johnson also serves on the Riverside Superior Court’s criminal law advisory committee, the Riverside County Veterans Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors of Inland Empire Champions for Collaborative Courts, a charitable foundation supporting the collaborative courts of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, and the Board of Directors for U.S. Vets, March Air Force Base. Judge Johnson has also served as a consultant for Washington D.C.-based American University on issues relating to veterans’ courts.Beginning in August 2011, Judge Johnson chaired a committee comprised of several Riverside County agencies and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to develop the first Riverside County Veterans Court. The Court was opened on 1 January 2012 and has been in operation since that date. The Court now presently supervises an average of 50 veterans on probation suffering from military-related trauma such as post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury who have served in combat in Vietnam, Grenada, Bosnia, Kosovo, Panama, Djibouti, Iraq, and Afghanistan.Judge Johnson is also a retired Colonel of the United States Army Reserve. During 28 years of active and reserve service, Judge Johnson served in various positions, including command judge advocate, company commander, battalion commander, and division chief of operations. His service included a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq from 2003-2004, where he served as the Chief of the Government Support Team, 1st Cavalry Division. For his service in this position and his role in the development of democracy in the Republic of Iraq, Judge Johnson was awarded the bronze star medal by General Peter Chiarelli in 2004 and personally honored by United States Senator Dianne Feinstein in a ceremony held in Riverside in 2005.Judge Johnson has received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, five awards of the Meritorious Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist’s Badge, as well as numerous other awards and decorations. Lt. Colonel John J. McBrearty USMC/USA, honorably served in our nation’s military for 32 years in positions of increasing responsibility. He has the distinction of serving in both the U.S. Marine Corps (enlisted & officer) and the U. S. Army (officer). His various fields of military training and expertise include Amphibious Assault Vehicles, Infantry, Armor, Cavalry Operations, Operational Planning, Strategic Planning, Public Affairs, and International Relations.His career spanned the globe with operations in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom-combat duty), Kuwait, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and Thailand. His years of dedication and sacrifice are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service. In the works is a great collaboration and support network in the Veteran and First Responders Community. A Navy “brat” born in San Diego, Ca. and had two brothers and 1 nephew in the Navy. Not to mention his late father, Roger de Leon, a retired submariner. He enlisted in the Navy in March 1993 as an undesignated Seaman Recruit (E1 paygrade), worked his way up the ranks to Petty Officer 3rd Class (E4) on USS Stout DDG 55 in Norfolk, Virginia until 1998, cross-rated to AO (Aviation Ordnance) and worked for Fallbrook Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach Detachment in California, then cross-rated again in 1999 to Sonar Technician where he later served on USS Barry DDG 52 in Portsmouth, Virginia from 1999-2006, made the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E5), transferred to San Diego, Ca. as a Sonar instructor from 2006-2008. He was stationed overseas for his next duty station onboard USS Paul Hamilton DDG 60 in Pearl Harbor where he move up to the aspiring rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (E6) in Hawaii from 2008-2011 and then served as an Oceanography Instructor teaching underwater terrain mapping and weapons handling at Center for Surface Combat Systems Command Detachment Pearl Harbor from 2011-2014. He was advanced immediately to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) which sent him to his final duty station onboard USS Antietam CG 54 as 1 of 1 ASW Specialist where he later retired in Yokosuka, Japan on October 1st, 2016 with an Honorable Discharge. Brian. FogartyOriginally from New Philadelphia, PA. Brian enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1992 and served 26 years, retiring in 2018 at the rank of Sergeant Major. During his service, Brian participated in multiple humanitarian and combat operations including Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.After retiring, Brian worked for several non profit organizations that assisted Veterans dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, to Include The PTSD Foundation of America. Brian joined the United States Forest Service in 2021 as a Back Country Ranger with the Palomar Ranger District on the Cleveland National Forest.Brian enjoys all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, backpacking, triathlons, skiing, surfing daily, working out and traveling.
