The longest and most detailed vision in Daniel describes hundreds of years of Israel\'s history. A history that culminates in a time of great trouble under Antiochus Epiphanes around 165BC. You\'ll need the text open in front of you to follow along with this sermon. In the end, we must acknowledge the all-powerful sovereign God who rules over kingdoms. May this be a reminder to God\'s people that we must stay faithful to God even in the most extreme circumstances.

What are angels and demons up to? How can we enter into the battle raging in spiritual places? These questions are explored as we consider Daniel 10. In this sermon, we also consider the immediate conflict in our day and how Christians are to fight and stand strong in the battle.

After considering the meaning of this passage, now we consider the reason why it was given. Why was this prophecy of great tribulation revealed to Daniel? What did God want the people of Israel to know and do because of this revelation? So let us avoid date setting and speculations, be prepared, be discerning, be hopeful and be trusting our great and sovereign God.

In modern times this passage is typically a passage about the anti-christ at the end of the age. But in reality, this passage is about the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. This passage is about the kingdom of God, inaugurated in the first century by our Lord. What we see is a unity in Daniel 7, 8, 9, and 10 referring to the events that transpired just before the coming of Christ. Great persecution was experienced by the Jews at the hand of Antiochus Epiphanes. But, like the other kings before him, God will judge and bring his King, the Messiah, to establish the never-ending kingdom of God.

In this historical account of the last of the Neo-Babylonian kings, God continues to accomplish his purposes in big details and small. In the conquer of Babylon, God brings his judgment to those who should have known better. We must also learn not to ignore our great, sovereign God but come before him in humility, seeking his mercy and grace, and finding our joy in him.

Here is a call to humility. Here is a call to repent of pride. But it\'s not what you think. This is not a finger wag at sin. This is not a call to try harder. This is a call to see the greatness of God. And when we catch just a glimpse of God\'s greatness and power, we will be moved to humility. We will, when our thoughts about God are right, have right thoughts about ourselves. So take to heart the message of Daniel 4. See God for who he is and bow down and worship!
