In this episode, Ethan explores topics such as equity, and related current issues facing the LGBTQIA community. Joining the discussion is Sac State professors Dr. Cara Jones, Dr. Tristan Josephson, and Dr. Maria Elena Vargas.About the guests:Cara E. Jones is an Assistant Professor of Women's & Gender Studies at CSUS where she studies chronic, dynamic disabilities from a feminist disability justice perspective. She teaches courses on Gender & Health and Disability Studies. Her work has been published in The Journal of Lesbian Studies, Radical Teacher, Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy, and Women's Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal. She is currently working on a manuscript titled Adhesions: Framing Endometriosis as Gendered Disability, which reframes the historical construction of endometriosis as the "career woman's disease" to a gendered disability.Dr. Tristan Josephson teaches in the Women's and Gender Studies Department at Sac State and is the faculty advisor for the LGBTQ Studies minor. His teaching and research interests include trans studies and politics, immigration law and policy, and transnational feminist studies.Dr. Maria Elena Vargas is an assistant professor in the Ethnic Studies department focusing on Chicanx studies. Her work focuses on transnational and decolonial approaches that challenge the impunity of racialized femicides or hyper-sexualized racial violence towards indigenous women in Guatemala. What is a progressive? What does being a moderate mean? In this episode, Dr. Robert Odin and Bridget Kennedy offer conversation and insight on what the American democratic party looked like yesterday, the complex nature of the party today, and share advice to upcoming generations about what its future may hold.About the guests:Bridget Kennedy is a lecturer of four years at Sacramento State teaching coursework on critical thinking. Bridget is also a proud graduate of Sac State, earning her master's degree in education with an emphasis in gender equity from the university. Dr. Robert Stanley Oden is a political science professor at Sacramento State, published author, and lifelong political and community activist for the Oakland, Berkeley, San Diego, and Sacramento areas. Dr. Oden is a former black panther party member. His most recent book is "From Blacks to Brown and Beyond: The Struggle for Progressive Politics in Oakland, California 1966-2017" with Cognella Academic Publishers. Dr. Oden earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz in sociology.
