French settlers colonized the area and lived alongside Native Americans and enslaved peoples brought from the southern French territories. Our story takes place in 1748 at the Braseau homestead in the village of Kaskaskia where Madame Braseau would accuse Marie Jeanne, an enslaved woman, of savagely murdering her own child. Another enslaved person would bear witness to the heinous crime and testify in a court of law. But in true Common Mystics fashion, not is all as it seems.
