Description

Common Sense with Dan Carlin is an independent look at politics and current events from popular New Media personality Dan Carlin.

Carlin's self-described "Martian" viewpoints infuse each episode with a political alien's take on the world around us and the problems it faces. It's a smart, unique (and admittedly U.S.-centric) program that doesn't dumb down the information or analysis for the slowest person in the room.

Carlin's rapid-fire staccato voice has been compared to William Shatner after too many espressos. That, plus his penchant for making everyone in the audience mad at him eventually, makes for a witch's brew of a podcast that is not for everyone. But for those craving a deeper intellectual analysis, a less partisan approach and unpredictable outside-the-box revelations, Common Sense with Dan Carlin is a feast for the mind.

Most people are fundamentally incapable of forming a rigorous epistemology. I totally agree that this leads us to an oligarchy, but the problem is that we currently do not have many intelligentsia or idealistic technocrats in that oligarchy, only corporate lizard people. Our current oligarchy is not acting in the best interest of the society as a whole or even in their own best interest long-term; they look only to short-term profit motive and buy property in foreign countries and private islands as an escape latch when their actions lead to the civil destabilization and unrest we see today.

Jennifer Fitzgerald Unfortunately Common Sense appears to be over - this episode was posted a year ago, and its the last one. He still does Hardcore History, and a History of Westeros podcast on Stitcher. No more political commentary though. It saddens me (but I'm glad that Dan is still sharing his lens of history with us).

To answer your question of how to engage others Dan - a starting point would be an agreed upon nature of truth. Does it exist? If so can we find it? If so ... kind of like a flow chart for troubleshooting any systemic failure.

Well done Dan. Like you, I wonder how the people living in dynamic times that later become historic actually recognized or appreciated the threat to the status qou.

David Zysk Dan spent this whole episode preaching moderation and intellectual caution. You migrate next to the radical left? I don't think Chapo Trap House is productive, I think it is reactionary. And this is coming from someone who self identifies as liberal.
