Description

Common Sense with Dan Carlin is an independent look at politics and current events from popular New Media personality Dan Carlin.

Carlin's self-described "Martian" viewpoints infuse each episode with a political alien's take on the world around us and the problems it faces. It's a smart, unique (and admittedly U.S.-centric) program that doesn't dumb down the information or analysis for the slowest person in the room.

Carlin's rapid-fire staccato voice has been compared to William Shatner after too many espressos. That, plus his penchant for making everyone in the audience mad at him eventually, makes for a witch's brew of a podcast that is not for everyone. But for those craving a deeper intellectual analysis, a less partisan approach and unpredictable outside-the-box revelations, Common Sense with Dan Carlin is a feast for the mind.

Secrecy, hacking, information leaks, whistle-blowers, foreign-operative propaganda pushers, disinformation, election tampering and the search for any truth in cyberspace occupy Dan's thoughts in this show.
After a brief hiatus to finish his other podcast, Dan has a huge backlog of material to cover. The presidential race, foreign affairs and racial and cultural questions take center stage.
This show has a "chickens coming home to roost" feel to it, but maybe in a positive way. It was supposed to be about the recent British vote to leave the EU, but evolved into something larger. Surprise, surprise.
Hate is a very strong word, but increasing numbers of Americans hate their countrymen. Is this a danger to the stability of the country? If it were deemed such, what can be done about it?
Dan finds the idea of a Donald Trump presidency to be inconceivable. He also thinks a fundamental change in U.S. Foreign Policy is also inconceivable. Could one inconceivable outcome lead to another?
As the U.S. Presidential campaign veers into unprecedented territory Dan sees opportunity in the unusual circumstances. "Anger is an Energy" he says. And he says it AGAIN and AGAIN.
It's not easy to get under Dan's normally flexible, see-things-from-multiple-angles skin, but Donald Trump's stated willingness to cross traditional American moral fault lines has done just that.
Justice Scalia of the Supreme Court dies and CEO Tim Cook and Apple go toe-to-toe with the U.S. Government over privacy.

Dan, you don't seriously believe anyone not a pawn really thought the election was stolen? This, from day one, was about doing to liberals what was done to us: trying to steal an election that was lost. liberals did it by hiring a foreign Intel officer to fabricate a dossier, then waiting for a corrupt FBI to falsify fisa warrants. conservit is did it by reenacting Bastille Day. Tit for Tat and an eye for an eye.

Dan, America was great when we could land a man on the moon and be proud of it. now, we'd call it white supremacy, and I'm not confident we could do it successfully right now anyway.

To begin with, I assume that both of your intentions are good. However, both of you seem to actually believe that your way of life is ultimately the only correct way of life for all humanity. You merely disagree on the method of how to bring others to embrace your way of life. One says to shove it down their throats and the other suggests leaving them to their devices until they stumble themselves towards the one correct way of life and set of values. You fail to realize that there are various cultures and nations that have adopted a variety of ways of life, value systems, and outlooks on life and death. These people are not necessarily brainwashed or forced into these value systems that you find so strange. These "strange" value systems are not the source of the current problems in the Middle East these days, but rather they were the corner stone upon which the human civilization was advanced on all fronts of science and art not that many centuries ago.

Dan has to stop looking backwards with his head in history books and get in touch with the present if he wants to have common sense.

Dan's Eugene Oregon is showing. There are plenty of open communists around, this isn't paranoia. Dan is ultra out of touch. The first escalation of this generations discontent started around 2008 with the financial crisis, rigging the game brings discontent and bitterness. No one was punished, politicians and bankers got rich, ramp up outsourcing. Trump recognized this aspect and ran on it. Obama's change campaign was a failure, animosity was bred in more racial division in Ferguson. media amplifies this. Healthcare premiums skyrocket again. Stage is set for Trump. Trump is the symptom of the previous decades squeeze on the American people. Not just by Obama/Bush, but the reckless financial habits of our government and globalism. The newest phase of escalation started with the medias constant villifying of a clearly flawed president 4 years ago. Calling everyone nazis and racists amplified all of this. Things are tense, but kinda coasting. In comes Covid, it gets spun into airborne ebola, not even close. Lock downs, fear parade, loss of autonomy. Enormous financial pressure on people. Politicize Covid, push division further. Add more restrictions. Video of the black man jogging in Alabama killed by shotgun struggle. Media jumps on a local story of 3 idiots in the backwoods, tries to spin up nationwide histeria. People are still too focused on Covid. G Floyd comes along, clear video, sad situation, people are adapting to lockdowns. Media dumps gasoline on a fire, nationwide riots, destruction, very few arrests. media gaslights everyone. Things settle down, election ramps up. Chaps, reformatting of election procedure, constant arguing, dump gasoline on the Covid fears again. Election happens, Trump loses, anomalies appear, no real investigations or audits to allow healing, media gaslights again. Whatever. Now the big one, Congress, the scum that they are, argue for 6 months over stimulus. People deserve 2k, only 600, at least on eminent domain, harm caused by government for general good. 2,000 pages of pork and money for foreign countries. Tensions flare huge on all sides. Riots at capital happen before Trump's speech ends. leftists and rightwingers there, mostly right.

damned skeptic

Don't understand the whole turn the other cheek and ignore fascists when they plan to shoot you in the back. The only people to blame for the recent crisis is the far right wing. Leftists aren't murdering people with thier cars and shitting themselves when black people say thier lives matter. or planting pipe bombs or shooting people standing up for human rights or trying to use a violent coupe to gain power. that's comes 100% from the far right.

the news media and social media is our new dictators. they dictate the script and not report unbiasedly. this is the number one danger to the constitution because if you go against their narrative you will be condemned a bigot or worse.

Listening to episodes 282-285 in 2020 is chilling. Dan is the author foreshadowing our future here.
